Diablo 4 Season 1 Weekly News Overview #2

Season 1 - Malignant

Last Updated:May 13, 2024

The second week of Season 1 has went by quick and there were a few notable changes worth mentioning for those who missed the updates. There was another Campfire Chat last Friday and we were able to see the Patch Notes for Patch 1.1.1 coming on August 8th. The Barber continues to rule Season 1, taking Builds to power levels unseen before. While many of us are happily slashing through enemies with powerful Caged Hearts, others are finding exploits to move the Hearts to the Eternal Realm. This is allowing players to bring their Eternal and Season characters into the same game and even trade items, including gold. Talk about a spicy exploit that'll surely lead to bans! Let's wrap up the updates form this week real quick so you can get back to slaying demons.

Campfire Chat (July 28th)

The Diablo 4 Patch 1.1.1 Campfire Chat happened last Friday. The panel consisting of Joe Shely (Game Director), Joseph Piepiora (Associate Game Director), Adam Jackson (Lead Class Designer) and Adam Fletcher (Associate Director of Community) discussed what is coming in Patch 1.1.1 for Barbarians, Sorcerers along with general improvements to the game.

Patch 1.1.1 (August 8th)

The Patch Notes for Patch 1.1.1 came out August 2nd, below you can see all the changes coming on August 8th. Here are some key takeaways form our Creators:

Key Takeaways:
* Barbarian: Gain a sizable boost in the early game with more Fury generation from their Basic Skills. In the endgame, the top builds Whirlwind and Hammer of the Ancients aren't impacted but Rend, Double Swing and Upheaval all enjoy noticeable improvements, bringing the builds closer together overall. For glory! For honor! For the love of the Barbarian!
* Druid: A viable Druid pet build?! Maybe! It's hard to say until we get a chance to test the changes, but at the very least this is a big step forward for pet enjoyers.
* Necromancer: Darkness is looming on the horizon, as Shadow builds keep getting stronger. With Sever's Unique Boots AND Legendary Aspect getting major overhauls. Minion builds also rejoice, with much need improvement to their Survivability from AoE Damage effects.
* Rogue: Forceful Arrow gains a substantial buff and becomes a viable alternative to Puncture for ranged builds now. Besides that and some minor improvements, there's not much to see and Aspect of Bursting Venoms remains unfixed.
* Sorcerer: Buffs to Fire and Lightning builds bring us ever closer to a state of perfect balance between the elements we use. Overall, the power level of the class is increasing only slightly, but there are a lot more enticing options that are equal in power.

HOTFIX 4 & 5 (August 2)

Seasonal Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where Battle Pass tiers could sometimes not be claimed.
  • Fixed an issue where an explosion from the Barber Malignant Heart could sometimes not kill a monster when it should.

Miscellaneous

  • Further stability improvements.

Hardcore Players Immortalized

When Diablo 4 launched Blizzard held a Hardcore race to level 100. The first 1,000 players to get there would have their names immortalized on a Lilith Statue on Blizzards Campus. Participants were required to send in a Tweet with their accomplishment, meaning that many players certainly reached level 100 without reporting it.You snooze, you lose. The final tally has been done and here is the list of all the brave souls that made it there and reported it to Blizzard!

Season or Eternal Realm?

An unfortunate bug allowing the transfer of items between Seasonal and Eternal characters was found recently and is surely going to lead to bans for players abusing it. Players were able to move their characters between realms and trade amongst each other freely. If this wasn't enough, Caged Hearts could be transferred to Eternal characters and even be socketed into the non-jewelry slots...

Blizzard has already acted on this disabling the trading part of the bug, but further fixes are needed to prevent the movement of characters. We won't go into any more details on this matter but rest assured this exploit is clearly unintended and is certainly going to be met with disciplinary action.

Tier Lists & Build Guides

In better news, we've made updates to our tier lists since the last weekly wrapup and have also been updating our build guides further! A new Malignant Heart Tier List has been added and we'll be discussing more Tier List ideas in our next meeting. Many of our Season Guides have been updated with Caged Heart adjustments and we have some new build guides coming soon! Further updates are being implemented and more will come once Patch 1.1.1 drops on August 8th.
