The Blizzard Fire Ball Sorceress, also referred to as the "Blizzball" Sorc is a special late game speed farming build. With a decent Faster Cast Rate Breakpoint and use of the Teleport Skill, this build can easily arrive at specific locations quickly for target farming. FireBall itself has a great damage output, great for quickly popping Players 1Elite packs. Blizzard is used as a secondary Skill, but is great for quickly taking out Fire Immunes. Stack a lot of x% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items (MF) and focus on going quickly from pack to pack. This build specializes in Ancient Tunnels farming but because we are a Cold and Fire Damage hybrid this can open up many areas of farming. Static Field and your Mercenary with Infinity Giant Thresher helps against resistant mobs.

Damage
Fire Ball* is your main Damage Skill. It shoots a large Fire Ball that deals Fire Damage towards your target and explodes onto the first target it hits, dealing Area of Effect (AoE) damage.
Blizzard* is your main Damage Skill. Icy spikes drop within a square on your targeted area. Cast this skill ahead of enemies, so they have to move through it. Note:Blizzard has a cooldown that can not be reduced by any means.
Teleport* allows you to travel large distances quickly, and go through gaps and walls. This is what gives the Sorceress a huge advantage early on.
Telekinesis* allows you to interact with objects from a distance to save time. It can be used on your Stash, Waypoints, Portals, and utility items (Potions, Scrolls, etc.). You can also use it to Knockback mobs and keep them stunned.
Static Field* deals Lightning Damage equal to 25% of the enemy’s current Life. It can only bring a monster’s Life down to 1 in Normal, 33% in Nightmare and 50% in Hell. Use it on Cold Immune mobs and bosses with high Life pools.
Frozen Armor* protects your Character with an icy armor that freezes enemies who use melee attacks on you. Ranged monsters are not affected by this at all.
Warmth* gives you some passive Mana Regeneration. It's a nice 1 Skill Point Investment.
Fire Mastery* boosts the Fire Damage to all of your Fire Skills.
Cold Mastery* boosts the Cold Damage dealt to all of your enemies by piercing their Cold Resistances.
*Faster Cast Rate Skills (FCR) * Skills that do NOT utilize either FCR or IAS

Farming Spots
The areas below are efficient farming locations that make use of the build’s strengths. Other farming spots might not be as effective due to immunities or bad layouts.
Anything that has a ✔ in the "Starter" column can be farmed with the Starter or Budget Variant.
Your Mercenary serves an incredibly important role to the overall success of your build. They can be a front line tank, provide a pivotal Aura, and/or deal Physical Damage to kill enemies with Immunity to your Skill set.
Act 2 Desert Mercenary
The Act 2 Desert Mercenary is hired from Greiz. He can be equipped with a Spear or a Polearm, a Body Armor and a Helmet. Every Act 2 Mercenary has access to an Aura and uses Jab as his base Attack. The Aura activates once the Mercenary has engaged in combat and remains active between traveling to and from town. The Auras available are based on what difficulty you hire the Mercenary from.
Infinity, Might
Use a Desert Mercenary with Might Aura to deal with enemies that are immune to your main damage source. Equip him with Infinity to reduce enemy Resistances and Defense with Conviction Aura, drastically boosting damage.
Mercenary Gear Options
Your Mercenary needs maximum Resistances, Life Leech, a high damage Weapon, and high Defense and/or Damage Reduction to stay alive reliably. Cannot Be Frozen is also a great stat for maintaining Mercenary DPS and leech. Ethereal gear is preferred since it doesn't lose durability. Mercenary Types and Gear Options at each Gear Level perform equally well in different situations; choose based on Farming Spots and/or personal preference.

The Mercenary is hard to keep alive until you have the minimum gear recommended in this guide. Remember you can drag Healing Potions onto the portrait, or shift + 1/2/3/4 to directly feed them a Healing Potion from your Belt. The Mercenary also gains bonus Resistances from Thawing Potions and Antidote Potions.
If your Mercenary dies in battle, you can revive them from any of the Mercenary NPCs in each Act. This does come with an increasing cost, capping at 50,000 Gold. Keep that in mind and decide if the Mercenary is currently worth the cost.
Playstyle
General
Blizzard and Fireball are both point and shoot skills.
Fireball is a missile that you hit monsters with for big damage, great for a quick hit-and-run playstyle. Against almost all packs, you cast Fireball on them, pop them and move on.
Kite mobs through the icy spikes of Blizzard or specifically target them. This Skill is used against Fire Immune packs.
Prior to entering a combat situation cast Frozen Armor to boost your survivability.
Use Teleport to navigate and then hunt pack after pack of Elite Groups.
You want to play on lower player count for mobs to have the least amount of Life as possible for quick and easy kills.
Use Telekinesis any time you can on Waypoints, Town Portals, your stash and for utility items such as Potions and Scrolls from a distance. These uses give lots of small-time saves that add up. In addition, you can also use it to Knockback mobs and keep them stunned. This is useful to keep immunes stunned while your Mercenary takes them down.
Use Teleport to reposition yourself and your Mercenary. Your Mercenary stands a better chance of staying alive and taking on Immunes when using Teleport. He can act as a first line of defense after you Teleport, catching incoming damage you would have taken otherwise.
Use Static Field to bring down the Life of your enemies quickly. This is great for all types of Bosses that are not Lightning Immune.
Before your targets, especially bosses, die, be sure to switch to your setup with high x% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items.
Try not to be too close to your enemies, this build is generally squishy and can either get stuck in Faster Hit Recovery or just die.
Try to avoid killing mobs over not walkable ground if possible, as they don't drop items.
Immunities
Kite mobs through icy spikes of Blizzard or specifically target them. This Skill is used against Fire Immune packs.
If you do not have Infinity equipped on your Mercenary, purchase a Lower Resist Charge Wand from Nightmare Drognan, this is great for breaking some Immune and highly Resistant monsters. Repair this Wand as needed using Gold or the Chipped Gem + Ort RuneHoradric Cube recipe.
Sunder Charms force immune monsters to 95% Resistance, but are not recommended for this build.
Late-Game
At the beginning of each run, be sure to buff yourself by swapping to Call to Arms and cast Battle Command 2 times, Battle Orders, swap back to your main setup and cast Frozen Armor. Make sure that these buffs stay active all the time, they are essential to your survivability.
Use Infinity on your Mercenary, to greatly increase your damage output and break immunities.
Breakpoints
Breakpoints in Diablo 2 are the minimum values required to reduce the frames of an action. Below are the important breakpoints considered for this build. For more information on the mechanics involved, check out our in-depth Resource: Breakpoints.
Faster Cast Rate (FCR)
Faster Cast Rate speeds up your casting animation for spells. Aim for the 63 or 105% FCR Breakpoint. Note: FCR only controls the animation speed of the Character, and not any internal Cooldowns spells have.

Hardcore
For all Hardcore gameplay, your primary focus is increasing your Resistances, Damage Reduction, Chance to Block and Maximum Life. This can mean sacrificing overall power level for a more secure playstyle. This build can become Hardcore viable with key changes to the Skills, Stat Point allocation, and items. Review the changes below before building this character, as they may differ significantly from the normal build. See the "Hardcore" Variant for an example.
Stat Point Changes
We put enough into Strength to wear gear, as well as enough Stat Points into Dexterity to maintain 50% Chance to Block with Stormshield. Everything else just goes into Vitality.
Skill Point Changes
Add points into Energy Shield for additional survivability or use a Staff with Energy ShieldStaff Mods like Memory Battle Staff or Obsession Archon Staff.
Item Changes
Be sure to keep your Resistances over capped against things like Conviction.

Stormshield
Sandstorm Trek
Verdungo's Hearty Cord
The Oculus is generally dangerous because of it's x% Chance tocast Level 1 Teleport when struck. Some options here are either Death's Fathom or Heart of the Oak

Setup
The starter to the Blizzard Fire Ball Sorceress is more of a budget build, this build is primarily for Endgame. We cannot spec into blizzard yet. Things that we are looking for on this build are Faster Cast Rate, + to Skills for our Sorceress as well as MF. Focus on just getting more stats such as Life, Mana, Resistances, Faster Hit Recovery, and Faster Run/Walk, are all good things to have - Be on the look-out for them!
Mercenary
To keep your Mercenary alive, equip him with a Body Armor and Helmet which provide Resistances and Life. Insight is a pretty easy Runeword to find that gives a great amount of damage and Quality of Life with Meditation. Hire the Might Aura Mercenary, to gain increase his Physical Damage.
Skills
Put 1 Skill Point into each of the following Skills: 1. Warmth 2. Static Field 3. Telekinesis 4. Teleport 5. Frozen Armor
Max out the following Skills in this order: 1. Fire Ball 2. Meteor 3. Fire Bolt 4. Fire Mastery
Attributes
Allocate enough Stat Points into Strength and Dexterity to equip your gear. Put the remaining Stat Points into Vitality.
Setup
With the Blizzard Fire Ball Sorceress stack x% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items (MF). The build's main focus is killing as many Elite Groups as possible on a lower player count. Important Breakpoints: 63% or 105% FCR and at least 60% FHR. Note: If you need to get back to town, we use the Scroll of Town Portal on the Belt.
Mercenary
The Mercenary is also setup to have as much +x% Chance of Getting Magic Items (MF) as possible while still being helpful on the battlefield. When your Mercenary kills something, his MF + your MF stack together. The Might Aura with the Mercenary helps boost his Physical Damage to help take down enemies faster. Stealskull, Skullder's Ire, and Infinity Giant Thresher all provide enough on lower player counts to get by and add a large amount of MF.
Skills
Put 1 Skill Point into each of the following Skills: 1. Frozen Armor 2. Warmth 3. Static Field 4. Telekinesis 5. Teleport 6. Cold Mastery
Max out the following Skills in this order: 1. FireBall 2. Meteor 3. FireBolt 4. Fire Mastery 5. Blizzard
Attributes
Allocate enough Stat Points into Strength to equip your gear. Put the remaining Stat Points into Vitality.
Setup
The Hardcore Blizzard Fire Ball Sorceress focuses on having a good amount of Damage Reduction (50%) while stacking Life. Important Breakpoints: Reach 60% FHR and at least 63% FCR. Add extra Dexterity to aim for 50% Chance to Block. The most impactful items for a build like this are Stormshield, Crown of Ages, and Burning Grand Charm of Balance.
Mercenary
The Mercenary is also setup to have as much +x% Chance of Getting Magic Items (MF) as possible while still being helpful on the battlefield. Remember that when your Mercenary kills something his MF + your MF stack together. The Might Aura with the Mercenary helps boost his Physical Damage to help take down enemies faster. Stealskull, Skullder's Ire, and Infinity Giant Thresher all provide enough on lower player counts to get by and add a large amount of MF.
Skills
Optional: Spec into Energy Shield to boost survivability, or use an item with +x to Energy Shield [Sorceress Only] such as Memory Battle Staff. Otherwise, we use the Standard Skill Tree.
Put 1 Skill Point into each of the following Skills: 1. Frozen Armor 2. Warmth 3. Static Field 4. Telekinesis 5. Teleport 6. Cold Mastery 7. Energy Shield
Max out the following Skills in this order: 1. FireBall 2. Meteor 3. FireBolt 4. Fire Mastery 5. Blizzard
Attributes
Put enough Stat Points into Strength to wear your gear, Dexterity to reach 50% Chance to Block, and the remaining Stat Points into Vitality.
Mechanics
Teleport
Teleport instantly moves you to a selected square on the visible screen in which you can stand. The game will try to to place you within a small radius around your cursor even if it would be impeded normally.
Teleport is not obstructed by walls or other impediments but can fail if your cursor is not completely passed those impediments when cast. Your Mercenary and Minions will be teleported with you, Traps will not.
Certain Minions in large quantities can become “stuck” in position after teleporting. Move away from that position to give them the chance to spread out.
You can “extend” the visible screen by opening UI-windows like the Inventory or the Character screen. Continuously cast Teleport and drag your mouse to the edge of your screen.
The Mana cost of Teleport decreases with additional Skill Levels down to 1 Mana per cast.
You can use “ESC” to open the menu in single player to pause the game after a Teleport to determine if you are safe.
Blizzard
Blizzard is part of the Sorceress' "cooldown groups". This Cooldown affects all Skills in that cooldown group.
While Blizzard is on cooldown, other Skills can be used.
Blizzard is an Area of Effect skill. It creates a squared shaped area in which icy spikes will fall from the sky in a pattern. The damage is inflicted when the projectiles hit the ground.
An enemy can be damaged multiple times by the same Blizzard cast. This means it is beneficial if a monster moves within its animation.
An icy spikes from Blizzard is size 2 which means it can hit multiple targets.
When spamming Blizzard, multiply cold damage by (icy spikes * duration) / Cast Rate to calculate maximum cold damage per second after the first blizzard has expired. Cast rate is delay (1.8 seconds or 45 frames) plus action frame, so Sorceress Cast Rate is 45 + (4-7) or 49-52 frames, depending on Faster Cast Rate. For example, against a stationary size 3 target maximum cold damage per second after 4 seconds (100 frames) for a Sorceress with 50 frame cast rate (63-199 FCR) would normally be cold damage multiplied by (4 * 100) / 50, or 8.
An ice shard falls every four frames (0.16 seconds) within radius of the target for duration of blizzard. (amazon basin send help teo or mac explain)
Put enough Stat Points into Strength to wear gear, and all the rest goes into Vitality.
Use Telekinesis any time you can to save time.
Teleport quickly from place to place killing Elite Packs as you go quickly with FireBall.
Use Blizzard against Fire Immunes.
Insight Mercenary solves your Mana problems in early stages.
Keep your Battle Command, Battle Orders, and Frozen Armor buffs up at all times. If Hardcore, keep up Energy Shield.
Have fun!
We hope you enjoy this build! It can be very fun and very rewarding, especially once you get practiced with it. Decimating the enemies with FireBall in Ancient Tunnels or Stoney Tomb can be quite fun.
Good luck!
