Gear progression is important; it's an MMO, after all. Like most MMOs, Throne and Liberty features vertical progression and the typical MMO treadmill. So, what should you do to become the destined main character that the story quests say you are?

This guide assumes you are Level 50 and want to learn about the power progression systems Throne and Liberty offers.

Acquiring New Gear

Look at our Build Guides page to see what gear we recommend for Early, Mid, and End Game.

Blue Gear

Fresh from Level 50, you're looking to upgrade our Gear to the next tier of rarity. Blue Gear is your first step. You can acquire Blue Gear from several sources.

Purple Gear

As you keep playing the game, you want to transition from Blue Gear to Purple Gear. The content below rewards Purple Gear.

Most BiS purple items can only drop from Field and Guild Bosses. You can also try using Substance Transformation to try and RNG what you want or use the Auction House.

Upgrading Your Gear

The first step to gear progression is always upgrading your gear and increasing its levels. You do this by using Quality Weapon Growthstone, Quality Armor Growthstone, and Quality Accessory Growthstone.

For Blue Gear, you would use Rare Growthstones. When you acquire a gear of higher rarity, transfer the piece over to your Equipment Enchanting window. You save some resources this way.

Transfer Break Points

  1. Green (Uncommon) +6 ➔ Blue (Rare) +3
  2. Blue (Rare) +9 ➔ Purple (Epic Tier 1) +6

Acquiring Upgrade Materials

Growthstones

Growthstones can be acquired from various sources.

Polished Crystals

Well, to craft Rare and Precious Growthstones, you need Rare and Precious Polished Crystals. They drop from various content.

Magic Powder

In addition to crafting Rare and Precious Growthstones, you need Rare Magic Powder. They come from these sources:

  • Daily Contracts
  • Dismantling equipment

Acquiring Traits

Upgrading your gear's levels isn't the only way to progress.

Another facet of gearing progression is Traits. Traiting your gear is incredibly important to not only increasing your DPS but also your survivability.

Having the BiS gear is one thing, but having fully traited BiS gear is your ultimate goal.

For more information on how Traits work, visit our Traits Guide.

Acquiring Trait Resonance

Trait Resonance is only available once all 3 Trait Lines on a Purple Gear piece are filled.

Then, you can use Trait Resonance Stone to acquire an additional Trait stat.

Trait Resonance is usually one of the last things you look towards in terms of Gear Progression.

For more information on how Resonance work, visit our section in the Traits Guide.

Upgrading Skills

Gear and Traits aren't the only things that make you stronger. The higher the rarity and level of your skills, the more damage you do. Upgrade your skills using Skill Growth Books of the correct rarity.

Just look at the skills below and see the difference.

Acquiring Skill Books

There are a couple of ways to acquire Skill Growth Books.

Visit a Skills Researcher NPC in Kastleton, Vienta Village, or Stonegard Castle to craft Skill Growth Book. You need Parchments and Marinds of the same rarity you want to craft.

You can acquire Rare and Precious Marind Ore from:

I highly recommend going to Gigantrite and mining these Ores.

Runes

Rune Synergies

Acquiring Rune Synergies is usually one of the last things to do for Gear Progression.

On your Purple Weapons and your Purple Accessories, you can unlock Rune Sockets by using Rune Hammers. You can unlock 3 different sockets:

  • Support Socket (Yellow) (60% Chance)
  • Defense Socket (Blue) (30% Chance)
  • Attack Socket (Red) (10% Chance)

Your Rune Synergy effect is based on the socket combinations. As seen above in the image, the socket order is red, blue, and yellow, which gives that specific Rune Synergy.

To activate the effect, you have to slot in Blue Tier Runes. Slotting in Green and Grey Runes gives a diminished effect.

Upgrading Runes

As you can see above in the image, Runes have levels to them, up to 60. Each type of Rune can roll a stat like Skill Damage Resistance. The higher the level, the higher the stat value. To upgrade your rune levels, you need to acquire that same Rune with the same stat again. The easiest way to do so is to grind Challenge Dungeons.

Summary

  • Upgrade your gear to increase the stats provided by the gear.
  • Transition to Purple Gear as you play the game.
  • Traits are an important part of gear progression.
  • Upgrade your skills so you can do more damage.
  • Look into Rune Synergies and Runes when you're done with everything else.
