Wand / Staff PvP Build Guide

Last Updated:December 13, 2024|Changelog

Welcome to the Wand / Staff PvP Healer guide, the most universal healer build in Throne & Liberty! Wand / Staff is most commonly played as a healer, but can also be built as a Hybrid DPS or Buff CC Bot.

With certain equipment such as the Talus's Resonance Staff and Lequirus's Grip, as well as abilities like Echoic Barrier, Victorious Energy, Frost Smokescreen, and Blessed Barrier, you can survive situations where you're outnumbered or up against a strong opponent.

Wand / Staff has unique abilities such as Icebound Tomb, Ice Spear, and Forbidden Sanctuary, and Salvation Chain that makes you a healer who can reliably protect and peel for teammates.

Option 2

Active Skills

Block Skills

  • When Perfect Blocking Fury attacks, use Chaotic Shield to gain access to an additional heal that also restores stamina.

Damage Skills

  • Use Infernal Meteor to apply a 60% Healing Debuff on all enemies hit.
  • Use Focused Fire Bombs to apply an 80% Healing Debuff to all enemies hit. This ability has a low cooldown and should be spammed as much as possible.
  • Use Judgment Lightning on enemy frontline tanks to apply a 30% Shield Block Chance Debuff. This strengthens your allies' ability to apply stronger pressure to weaken the enemy frontline.

Healing Skills

  • Don't be afraid to use Fountain of Life to keep yourself alive. In many instances, it is the best play to keep yourself alive if you expect you're about to be Proned or Knocked Down.
  • Swift Healing is your only single-target healing ability that is used most often since it has the lowest cooldown. This ability can heal players outside of your party.
  • Use Clay's Salvation when multiple party members require a heal. The Range ▲ Specialization helps you reach all party members in moments you are spread a part.
  • Blessed Barrier is one of your strongest abilities that increases Incoming and Outgoing Healing, while also increasing Defenses, including Endurance during the night. The Effect Duration ▲ gives you about 4 extra seconds on the buff depending on your total Buff Duration.

Utility Skills

  • Use Victorious Energy to increase your Evasion and Hit by 400 each. This buff becomes necessary at End Game to make it difficult for Ranged and Magic users to land their abilities on you. It also helps you land your CC and Damage abilities against players stacking Magic Evasion.
  • Use Inner Peace to recover Mana. Time its use with Nature's Blessing to recover your entire Mana bar.
  • Cast Icebound Tomb off cooldown to create clumps for your allies to destroy.
  • Use Enchanting Time to buff a strong DPS allied player. Ensure you use this ability on allies who won't exceed 500 Skill Damage Boost as there are hard diminishing returns.

Passive Skills

  • Maintain max stacks of Full of Corruption through Focused Fire Bombs, Icebound Tomb, and Infernal Meteor to significantly increase your healing and damage output.
  • Devotion and Emptiness and Noble Revival increase your healing. Devotion and Emptiness also provides Cooldown Speed for your healing abilities during the day.
  • Keep full stacks of Selfless Soul easily with Clay's Salvation and Fountain of Life.
  • The Skill Damage Boost from Forbidden Sanctuary also increases your healing.
  • Echoic Barrier pairs perfectly with Debuff Duration and if you stack enough you can bring the Silence Debuff down to 1.5 seconds or less.

Alternatives

  • To use the AoE Sleep Spread Combo, replace Infernal Meteor and Focused Fire Bombs with Cursed Nightmare and Karmic Haze. Use your extra Specialization points to take Weaken Removal and Radius Increased on Clay's Salvation.

Active Skills

Block Skills

  • No changes from the previous tabs.

Healing Skills

  • No changes from the previous tabs.

Utility Skills

  • Use Enchanting Time and Fighting Spirit Barrier on party members to increase their damage output. Ideally, you want to use these buffs on the strongest AoE DPS player in your group to increase their burst combos.
  • Cast Icebound Tomb off cooldown to create clumps for your allies to nuke while also reducing the Evasion of all enemies caught by 415.
  • Use Salvation Chain to save allies from certain death. This ability can not be used if someone is Knocked Down or Prone. Pay attention to the state your allies are in before you try to pull them to safety.
  • Spread Cursed Nightmare with Karmic Haze.
  • Use High Focus with Expand Targets and Expand Targets Specializations to provide Cooldown Speed, Movement Speed, and Max Damage buffs to your entire party. If you're being focused by Ranged and Magic users, run the Victorious Energy Specialization instead and remove the other two.

Passive Skills

  • No changes from the previous tab.

Active Skills

Block Skills

Healing Skills

Damage Skills

  • Use Focused Fire Bombs to apply an 80% Healing Debuff to all enemies hit. This ability has a low cooldown and should be spammed as much as possible to nerf the amount of healing your enemies receive.
  • Use Ice Spear Bombardment to secure kills and/or lock Melee users in place allowing your allies to easily catch them.
  • Use Fireball Barrage to drain the Mana of the enemy healer.

Utility Skills

  • Cast Icebound Tomb to lock Melee users in place for your allies to nuke while also reducing the Evasion of all enemies caught by 415.
  • Use Cursed Nightmare to sleep enemy Staff users running Mana Burn.

Skill Prioritization

  • Use Quality Marind Ore to craft Quality Active Skill Growth Book and Quality Passive Skill Growth Book.
  • Use Rare Marind Ore to craft Rare Active Skill Growth Book and Rare Passive Skill Growth Book.
  • Prioritize getting all these skills to blue first before getting them to purple. These are universal skills you always use.
  • Upgrade the following skills first from 1 to 3, then repeat from 3 to 5. Upgrade the rest of your skills as you play the game.

PvP Gameplay and Skill Rotation

Large Scale PvP
Support

Mass Sleep

  1. Cursed Nightmare
  2. Karmic Haze
  • This is a very simple combo. Make sure your location is safe before you cast and you know where to safely reposition afterward.
  • Always target a Wand / Longbow or SnS user with Cursed Nightmare, because they don't usually stack Evasions, so it's more likely your Sleep and Karmic Haze would not miss on them.
  • After you cast Cursed Nightmare on a target, you must use Karmic Haze on that same target to spread Sleep.
    • Note: The tooltip for Karmic Haze is incorrect and you can spread any DoT or Sleep to as many targets within skill's AoE radius.

Increased DPS With Burning

  1. Serial Fire Bombs
  2. Inferno Wave
  3. Chain Lightning
  4. Fireball Barrage
  5. Judgment Lightning

If you choose to have any of the skills a part of this combo on your bar, make sure to use them in this order to increase DPS. Before starting the combo, make sure to have Time for Punishment applied to the target for more DPS or Enchanting Time on yourself.

AoE Skills

  • Inferno Wave
  • Chain Lightning
  • Judgment Lightning
  • Hellfire Rain
  • You can follow up Serial Fire Bombs with Inferno Wave.

AoE Heals

  1. Clay's Salvation
  2. Fountain of Life
  • These are your AoE healing abilities commonly used in PvP. Use your AoE heals after multiple party members receive damage that requires your support. Use Swift Healing as your main heal until this happens.
  • Fountain of Life is commonly used to support yourself to survive CC combos.

Single-Target Heal

  1. Swift Healing
  • This is your main heal that has a low cooldown and can be cast up to three times with Consecutive Use.

Damage Mitigation

  1. Blessed Barrier
  2. Invincible Wall
  • These skills help your party tank strong hitting abilities. Blessed Barrier and Invincible Wall can be changed into AoE abilities with Expand Targets and Expand Targets.
  1. Redemptive Barrier
  2. Inner Peace
  • This combo allows you to tank a Greatsword DPS rotation and majority of burst attacks while being immune to Stun, Petrification, Bind, Silence, or Sleep.
  • After the player uses their initial CC and burst damage, follow-up with Icebound Tomb, Cursed Nightmare, or Frost Smokescreen to self-peel and reposition to a safer area.

Tips

  • To survive and play well as a Wand / Staff Healer build you must always be mindful of your positioning. Use Victorious Energy as soon as you see DPS moving towards you for an engage. Never be in isolated spaces within your zerg where you're more vulnerable to being ambushed.
  • Do not use standing block against Greatswords. Always use rolling block in fights against them because they have two Fury abilities that can quickly Prone you if you're using your stationary block.
  • Don't be afraid to use Blessed Barrier on yourself if you are being focused. The increased healing and Defenses from this ability increases your odds of surviving.

Gear Progression

Acquiring Gear pieces and upgrading them is incredibly expensive and time-consuming. If you enjoy both PvE and PvP content, just use these sets for PvE as well.

  • With 2-Star Dungeons being introduced, there are new BiS builds because of more accessible armor pieces and accessory pieces.
  • The main difference is the higher Max Health and much higher Cooldown Speed for most builds.
  • The next time these builds will be revamped entirely will be when T2 Epic gear comes out. This could possibly happen in January.
  • Fully trait your blue gear before transferring over to purple gear. A fully traited blue piece will give you 960 Blessings for you to use.

  • Note: You do not need to update your gear to match the small changes made for optimization with the addition of the Rune system.
  • Excavator or Lequirius?: Both wands are exceptional and provide unique benefits in PvP. Excavator's Mysterious Scepter helps you achieve the 70 Strength Attribute bonus and provides you a powerful Healing Overtime ability that can reach over 20,000 in healing output with your healing bonuses. Lequirus's Coveted Tome makes you more difficult to kill, allowing you to escape near-death situations without pressing a button. What you use depends on your playstyle and personal preference.
  • If you have Daybreak Shore Feast, use it.
  • This build is stronger in small scale fights where it is easier for melee to focus you such as Arena, Dominion Events, and war zones with difficult choke points.
  • Although this build is stronger in small scale fights, it is still viable in large scale fights as long you have proper positioning to avoid getting singled out by melee players.
  • The amount of Melee Evasion you want to aim for is 1,800, which allows you to counter the average amount of 900 to 1,300 Hit Greatsword users achieve in T1 gear.
  • Ranged players tend to average around 1,000 Hit or more making it difficult to run a proper amount of Ranged Evasion and Melee Evasion simultaneously.

  • Why Talus?: Talus's Crystalline Staff provides you a counter to Stun, which is especially helpful against Greatsword players who commonly target you during PvP. While the skill from Talus's Crystalline Staff is active, any damage you receive will also be nullified.
  • If you have Daybreak Shore Feast, use it.
  • This build is stronger in small scale fights where it is easier for melee to focus you such as Arena, Dominion Events, and war zones with difficult choke points.

  • The amount of Melee Evasion you want to aim for is 1,800, which allows you to counter the average amount of 900 to 1,300 Hit greatsword users achieve in T1 gear. Equip Ebon Roar Sabatons if you require higher Melee Evasion.
  • Ranged players tend to average around 1,000 Hit or more making it difficult to run a proper amount of Ranged Evasion and Melee Evasion simultaneously.

  • The glass Wand Staff build is very strong but squishier to Ranged and Melee players due to a lack of Ranged Endurance or Evasion, and lower Melee and Ranged Defenses. Knowing how to position well is required for this build's success.
  • With level 20 runes you achieve an amazing 122.63% Skill Heal, 51% Buff Duration and 44% base Cooldown Speed.
  • Use High Focus with this build to achieve over 102% Cooldown Speed.
  • Use this build based on your own comfortably.

  • If you have Daybreak Shore Feast, use it.
  • This build is strong in large scale fights such as Wars, Siege, Tax Cart, and Battlegrounds where it's easier to position yourself away from melee players and rely more on your raid for protection.
  • In large scale fights, majority of your damage is primarily received from Longbow and Staff players casting long-ranged abilities, with crossbow divers secondary. Since these damage types are Magic and Range, a Magic and Ranged defensive build is stronger in large scale combat.
  • The amount of Magic Evasion you want to aim for is 1,800, which allows you to counter the average amount of 900 to 1,100 Hit DPS Staff players achieve in T1 gear, especially against those not running Victorious Energy.
  • Properly built ranged players will have more than 1,000 Hit making it difficult to run a proper Magic and Ranged Evasion build without Shadow Walker from Daggers.

Archived Builds

Guardians

Guardians are special transformations that add offensive or defensive buffs or attacks to your character for 30 seconds. These are the recommended Guardians for this class in both PvE and PvP situations.

  • Lady Knight Kamarshea is the common healer Guardian. It helps as an emergency button to survive situations where you are overwhelmed by several players or caught in a CC chain.

Purification Stone

Use the Precious Purification Vigor Stone.

  • In addition to cleansing CC (other than collision, petrification, and weaken similar to the others), it provides a powerful heal that is increased by your healing passives and buffs, including Blessed Barrier.
  • The heal from the stone can Critical Heal.
  • The heal from the stone is increased by the Extreme Ascension set bonus.

Summary

  • The Wand / Staff Healer in PvP is the most versatile healer build. You can play it as full support, hybrid DPS, and as a buffbot.
  • Wand / Staff can achieve the highest Cooldown Speed in the game allowing you to spam heals and abilities more often compared to other healers.
  • As a Wand / Staff build, you have Salvation Chain that allows you to pull party members from long ranges to safety, and Freeze enemies to save allies making you a great peeler during fights.
  • Talus's Resonance Staff and Lequirus' Grip improves your survivability as a Wand / Staff healer.
