Welcome to the Wand / Staff PvE build guide! This is the most versatile healer in Throne and Liberty since it can be played as a healer with strong DPS abilities. Compared to Wand / Dagger, Wand / SnS, and Wand / Longbow, this healing weapon combination has stronger and more spammable AoE abilities making it the preferred option when farming in the open world.

You have powerful AoE abilities like Judgment Lightning, Chain Thunder, and Inferno Wave that allow you to kill big mobs packs quickly.

By taking advantage of unique Staff skills such as High Focus, Inner Peace, and Asceticism, you are able to spam heals, damage, and support abilities with lower cooldowns without worrying about depleting your Mana.

End Game Wand / Staff PvE Build

Pros

  • High Cooldown Speed
  • High AOE Burst Damage
  • High Skill Damage Boost

  • No CC Cleanse

Skill Builds

Healer PvE

Full DPS

In Throne and Liberty, every healer is expected to DPS mobs and bosses, including inside Co-Op Dungeons to help reduce your clear time. If your party requires additional damage mitigation or healing replace some DPS abilities in this skill build. This especially helps if your party is new to the game and as more challenging Co-Op Dungeons are introduced. Use this skill build for Co-Op Dungeons and when you're required to heal for Field and Guild Bosses.

Active Skills

Damage Skills

  • Always start the fight with Touch of Despair. Your goal is to stack the Curse from this ability to 3 on a boss before detonating your Curse Explosion.
  • Cast Decaying Touch before you cast your third Touch of Despair. This allows you to min/max your Curse Explosion damage.
  • Curse Explosion with Dark Explosion leaves your Curses on the boss. This reduces the cooldown of Curse Explosion so you can use the skill more frequently.
  • Because of Curse Explosion not consuming DoTs, the target will always have max Burning stacks on it, so use Fireball Barrage off cooldown for maximum damage.
  • Use Judgment Lightning off cooldown.

Healing Skills

  • Swift Healing is your main heal to restore the health of yourself and allies. Assign a Self-Use button in your settings to easily self-cast this ability. This skill can be used up to 3 times within about 5 seconds so heal multiple targets when possible.
  • Use Clay's Salvation when multiple party members need health restored, or immediately after a large AoE mechanic.
  • Fountain of Life is used to support a party member tanking hits from a boss, or to heal multiple party members grouped together.

Utility Skills

  • Use Time for Punishment first before you start any combo to increase your damage output.
  • Use High Focus before you start your combo to ensure you are able to spam as many skills as possible within the skill's duration.

Passive Skills

  • One of your best passives to increase your healing output and reduce the Cooldown of healing abilities is Devotion and Emptiness. Remember that during the night you lose the healing bonuses and gain increased damage and Cooldown Reduction on your Curse abilities instead.
  • Wraith's Beckon is used to increase the damage of your Curse Explosion.
  • Asceticism helps with Mana Regen which is needed for this build. If a Longbow is in your party since Deadly Marker allows you to have barely any long cooldowns. Inner Peace is usually not enough in this situation.
  • Vampiric Contract provides a small amount of healing to whomever you are targeting. This is great for damage sustain against DoTs in PvE or slowly keeping party member's Health bars topped off without wasting healing abilities.

Alternatives

  • If you need more damage mitigation for harder content, replace Fireball Barrage with Invincile Wall and take Expand Targets on it.
  • For parties that may have a member struggling with mechanics you are meant to dodge or move away from, replace Fireball Barrage with Salvation Chain to pull them to safety when needed.

Use this skill build while solo farming Resistance Contracts and Open World Dungeons.

Active Skills

Damage Skills

  • Always start the fight with Touch of Despair. Your goal is to stack the Curse from this ability to 3 on a boss before detonating your Curse Explosion.
  • Cast Decaying Touch and Serial Fire Bombs before you cast your third Touch of Despair. This allows you to min/max your Curse Explosion damage.
  • Use Judgment Lightning off cooldown.

Utility Skills

  • Always use Time for Punishment into Karmic Haze to spread the Skill Damage Reduction debuff within a large AoE.

  • Vampiric Contract provides a small amount of healing to whomever you are targeting. This is great for damage sustain against DoTs in PvE or slowly keeping party member's Health bars topped off without wasting healing abilities.

Alternatives

  • If you're in a group or your Curse Explosion to one shots the mobs you're farming, remove Dark Explosion and take Thunder Blessing, as well as Immune to CC.

This skill build is only to be used when your party requires minimal to no healing. Your only goal here is to deal as much damage as possible.

Skill Prioritization

  • Use Quality Marind Ore to craft Quality Passive Skill Growth Book and Quality Active Skill Growth Book
  • Use Rare Marind Ore to craft Rare Passive Skill Growth Book and Rare Active Skill Growth Book.
  • Prioritize getting all these skills to blue first before getting them to purple. These are universal skills you always use.
  • Upgrade the rest of your skills as you play the game.

PvE Gameplay and Skill Rotation

Support
AoE
Single Target

The healing abilities listed below are to be used in any content that requires you to heal allies or yourself.

AoE Heals

  1. Clay's Salvation
  2. Fountain of Life
  • These are your AoE healing abilities commonly used in PvE. Use your AoE heals after multiple party members receive damage that require your support.
  • Swift Healing is used as your main heal until this happens.

Single-Target Heals

  1. Swift Healing
  • This is your main heal that has a low cooldown and can be casted up to three times with Consecutive Use.

Damage Mitigation

  1. Blessed Barrier
  2. Invincible Wall
  • These skills help your party tank strong hitting mechanics.
  • Blessed Barrier and Invincible Wall can be changed into AoE abilities with Expand Targets and Expand Targets.

Long AoE Rotation

  1. Group mobs
  2. High Focus
  3. Always prioritize Chaotic Shield if there are Fury attacks
  4. Time for Punishment
  5. Touch of Despair
  6. Serial Fire Bombs
  7. Inferno Wave
  8. Chain Lightning
  9. Decaying Touch
  10. Touch of Despair (likely third stack because of Curse)
  11. Curse Explosion
  12. Judgment Lightning
  13. Chain Lightning
  • Wand / Staff AoE farming is high spam and you need to understand how to maximize your ability rotations to achieve the best damage.
  • This is the long combo. Weave in DPS skills as you wait for your Karmic Haze cooldown.

Short AoE Rotation

  1. Group mobs
  2. High Focus
  3. Time for Punishment
  4. Touch of Despair
  5. Serial Fire Bombs
  6. Inferno Wave
  7. Decaying Touch
  8. Touch of Despair (likely third stack because of Curse)
  9. Curse Explosion
  • This combo is used to quickly kill normal mobs that are a lot squishier. You will frequently use this rotation while completing your resistance contracts.

Tips

  • Always group mobs and use Chaotic Shield to block Fury attacks and easily spread Touch of Despair. If done correctly, you can skip building 3 stacks of ToD and go right into the final part of the Curse Explosion combo.
  • Always spread Time for Punishment with Karmic Haze before exploding.

Long Single-Target Rotation

  1. High Focus
  2. Touch of Despair
  3. Time for Punishment
  4. Serial Fire Bombs
  5. Inferno Wave
  6. Chain Thunder
  7. Touch of Despair
  8. Fireball Barrage
  9. Serial Fire Bombs (Cast up to three times while waiting for ToD cooldown)
  10. Decaying Touch
  11. Touch of Despair
  12. Curse Explosion
  13. Judgment Lightning
  • This combo unloads all your DPS abilities in an order that maximizes your damage output. The DoT stacks remain if using Curse Explosion with Dark Explosion, so make sure you practice balancing your skill use effectively.

Short Single-Target Rotation

  1. High Focus
  2. Time for Punishment
  3. Serial Fire Bombs
  4. Inferno Wave
  5. Chain Thunder
  6. Judgment Lightning
  • This combo is focused on killing squishier mobs with more instant cast abilities so you spend less time charging up abilities.

Stat Priorities

Use the following stat priorities when playing a Wand / Staff build in PVE:

  • Primary Stat
    • Dexterity and Wisdom
  • Secondary Stat
    • Strength and Perception

You have 49 Stat Points you can freely allocate to any of the 4 primary Stats. Once you put 20 points into an individual Stat, it takes 2 points to increase the Stat by 1. Do not put more than 20 points into a Stat unless you are trying to reach a certain breakpoint.

You get bonuses for every 10 Stat Points you invest from 30 to 60. Invest your points based on acquiring these bonuses.

Dexterity not only adds maximum Weapon Damage but also increases your Crit Chance, Evasion, and Attack Speed. Increasing Dexterity is your best method of increasing your damage output. Wisdom is the next best stat for improving your Weapon Damage. Each added point into Wisdom also provides extra Cooldown Speed and Mana Regen.

Mid Game

For PvE, you care mainly about maximum damage output so put points into Dexterity and Wisdom. Reaching 30 Strength is worthwhile if you think you need the extra Health to survive. You can have two Presets for max Dexterity and Wisdom or 30 Strength.

End Game

With enough Purple Gear, you can optimally hit certain stat breakpoints. 50 Wisdom gives you extra Cooldown Speed and 50 Strength gives you 100 extra Heavy Attack.

Gear Progression

These are the recommended gear sets if you want to focus purely on PvE as a healer. The gear below focuses on maximizing your Cooldown Speed and increasing your Minimum and Maximum Damage by stacking main Stat points (Strength, Dexterity, Wisdom, Perception).

Early Game Wand / Staff PvE Build

If you've been following our Leveling Guide for Wand / Staff, the advice in the Leveling Guide was not to transfer over your Green Gear into Blues just yet. Thus you should have ended up with mostly Green Gear.

If you didn't read the Leveling Guide, that's fine, your Story Gear doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of things.

  • Your two biggest upgrades once reaching Level 50 becomes Elite Resistance Staff and Lethal Fortune Ring.
  • These are obtained by completing Lithograph Book entries:
    • Staves from Archwizard
    • Rustic Mother Nature Rings.

Mid Game Wand / Staff PvE Build

  • To obtain the Insightful Ring of Dimension, craft the Dimensional Essence: Salvation and use it in the Precious Epic Accessory Selection Chest recipe. Open the chest and select the Dimension ring you want.
  • Toublek's Thunderous Soul (Tyrant's Isle) and Lequirus's Grip (Cave of Destruction) are crafted through the Dimensional Essence: Salvation pity system or obtained from their respective Co-Op Dungeons.
  • Bloody Fog Leather Pants come from Open World Dungeons.
  • Lethal Fortune Ring, Prophet's Bracelet, Scales of Time Necklace, Frost Barrier Magic Shoes, Dark Destruction Iron Gloves, and Deadly Fighter's Plate Armor come from Co-Op Dungeons.
  • Elite Retainer's Belt, Great Spirit's Grace Visor, and Elite Sharpshooter's Cloak come from both Open World Dungeons and Co-Op Dungeons.
  • There are alternative gear options such as the Mysterious Sage Set that are Field and Guild Boss drops. However, they are harder to trait and take longer to obtain so instead, stick with more easily farmable blue pieces.

As you progress further into the game, you gather more blue gear with flat Stat buffs such as Dexterity and Wisdom to boost your raw damage. It's also more costly to trait due to the low supply in the early game. You might find yourself still using green accessories and just know THAT'S OK. Slowly transition to Blue Gear as you play the game.

The goal for your Mid Game build is to reach over 45% Critical Hit for your heals and damage. With this build, you also have high Cooldown Speed. You don't require much Hit to land your abilities on mobs and bosses. If you require more Health, remove 20 points from Dexterity and place them into Strength.

Where possible, Melee and Ranged Evasion are prioritized on your gear because most mobs use these attack types. These defenses help you survive in dungeons and during PvE Events.

Healer Wand / Staff PvE Build
No Rune Synergies or Resonance

Healer Wand / Staff PvE Build
With Rune Synergies and Resonance

The goal for your End Game build is to reach over 45% Critical Hit which you exceed with Toublek's Thunderous Soul's weapon passive. With this build, you also have high Cooldown Speed which is important to spam DPS abilities as quickly as possible, including High Focus and Time for Punishment.

This build works towards obtaining the 2-Piece Mother Nature set effect to increase your Weaken DoT damage and duration of debuffs like Time for Punishment. You also obtain the 2-Piece Transcended One set effect which lowers all your ability cooldowns.

  • Some pieces here can't be farmed in the open world or dungeons. Namely, the Breath of Mother Nature Hat, Transcendental Salvation Pants, and Tycan's Bloodlust Belt which all come from Field Bosses and Guild Bosses.
  • Transcendent Magic Ring is also not obtainable from open world or dungeons. It is dropped by Archboss Bellandir.
  • For all pieces that drop from Field and Guild bosses, you can also acquire them through Substance Transformation. I recommend rolling for accessories first since it's a smaller loot pool giving you a higher chance to obtain Transcendent Magic Ring.
  • Reaper's Footsteps and Transcendental Mystery Gloves come from Open World Dungeons.
  • This set takes some time to complete, so take it slow! It's not a race! With full Rune Synergies, you hit 50 Strength, 50 Dexterity, 55 Wisdom, and 34 Perception.

  • General's Melee Gaiters, and Skulls Spectral Belt come from Field Bosses and Guild Bosses.
  • You can obtain Grand General's Vanguard Boots from the Syleus's Abyss Open World Dungeon.

DPS Wand / Staff PvE Build
No Rune Synergies or Resonance

DPS Wand / Staff PvE Build
With Rune Synergies and Resonance

This build is harder to obtain since Reaper's Black Mask drops from Field and Guild bosses. However, you could get lucky and obtain pieces from Substance Transformation or purchase them from the Auction House with Lucent you obtain yourself from in-game content.

The 2-piece Death Set increases your Critical Damage. Your Curses do not have a Minimum or Maximum Damage roll, so when they Critical Hit the damage won't be multiplied by your weapon's Maximum Damage. Instead, the damage is increased only by your Critical Damage (%) boost. Curses can however land as a Heavy Attack.

  • Some additional pieces can't be farmed in the open world or Co-Op Dungeons. Namely, the Reaper's Black Mask, Mysteries of Mother Nature Pants, and Tycan's Bloodlust Belt which all come from Field Bosses and Guild Bosses.
  • Transcendent Magic Ring is only obtainable from the Archboss Bellandir or Substance Transformation.
  • For all pieces that drop from Field and Guild bosses, you can also acquire them through Substance Transformation. Since the pool for accessory rolls is smaller, you want to roll for Transcendent Magic Ring first.
  • Reaper's Footsteps comes from Sanctum of Desire Open World Dungeon.
  • This set takes some time to complete, so take it slow! It's not a race! With full Rune Synergies, you hit 50 Strength, 50 Dexterity, 51 Wisdom, and 40 Perception.

Wand / Staff PvE Build
No Rune Synergies and Resonance

This version of the gear build is fully self found, meaning all the pieces are acquired yourself through grinding. You do not need to use the Auction House, Substance Transformation, or rely on your guild.

The goal for your End Game build is to reach over 45% Critical Hit and 50 Strength for 100 additional Heavy Attack synergizing perfectly with your staff abilities. With this build, you also have high Cooldown Speed which is important to spam DPS abilities quickly.

  • Obtain Slaughterer's Collar from the Lithograph: Marienne's Recommended Necklace Collection.
  • Grim Judicator's Pants and Unshakeable Gold Ring comes from Open World Dungeon.
  • Hell Guide's Visor, Archpriest's Devotion, Miracle of Mother Nature Clothing, Specter's Frost Bracers, and Butcher's Belt come from Co-Op Dungeons.
  • Resonance of Mother Nature Boots comes from both Open World Dungeons and Co-Op Dungeons.

Guardians

Guardians are special transformations that add offensive or defensive buffs or attacks to your character for 30 seconds. These are the recommended Guardians for this class.

  • Shade Revenant Stheno is the most viable DPS Guardian in PvE because it deals the most damage.
  • Lady Knight Kamarshea is a useful Guardian while you learn new dungeons. It helps in situations as an emergency button to survive mechs that deal a significant amount of damage. Not many other situations arise where this is necessary.

Summary

  • Wand / Staff healer is a great choice for dungeons as they can provide great heals and dish out strong DPS simultaneously.
  • Slot Salvation Chain if you have a party member struggling with dodging boss mechanics in Co-Op Dungeons.
  • Wand / Staff has some of the best AoE damage output that no other healer can compare to.
  • If you enjoy traditional mage builds but also want to heal and support allies, this build incorporates all the fun aspects of a damage dealer and support-type class.
  • Wand / Staff is the most versatile PvE build in the game. It can also be played as a full Damage Dealer whenever you want.
  • Play Wand / Staff healer if you enjoy pure magic-based builds that can deal lots of damage, while healing allies with ease.
