Ability Stone System Guide
Ability Stones are a fundamental part of improving your Engravings strength and provide you with Vitality and Attack Power buffs if enough nodes are obtained. Let's learn more about them!
Overview
Ability Stones provide you with 2 Combat Engravings (excluding Class Specific Engravings) and 1 Malus effect. They must be reforged at the Ability Stone Cutter NPC before you can equip them.
Based on the rarity of the stone you gain access to more attempts and therefore more Engraving Points:
- Rare Ability Stone - 6 points
- Epic Ability Stone - 8 points
- Legendary Ability Stone - 9 points
- Relic Ability Stone - 10 points
Checkout our Engraving Guide to learn more about how this system benefits you!
Ability Stone Cutter Location
The NPC to cut your Ability Stones is found in all major cities as a blue diamond icon on the map.
Ability Stone Sources
These stones are mostly obtained through your daily and weekly activities as drops or rewards; sources include:
- Abyssal Dungeons
- Chaos Dungeons
- Field Bosses
- Legion Raids
- Guardian Raids
- Solo Raid exchange shop
- Pirate Coin Exchange on Islands: Peyto & Fermata (limit of 3 stones per character per week)
- Una's Task Daily & Weekly rewards
- Exchanging Powders of Mystery at a Stone Cutter NPC.
Cutting Process
Interact with the Stone Cutter NPC, select an Ability Stone you're willing to invest in, and get to work!
- Your initial attempt always has a 75% chance to succeed. Focus this attempt on your most desirable Engraving by clicking on the hammer icon. Each try consumes a set amount of Silver.
- Unlocking a point reduces the success rate of your next attempt by 10%, while raising it by 10% after failed attempts and leaving an empty space in the process. This success rate can never go below 25% or exceed 75%.
- Manage the percentages to obtain the most points for your Battle Engravings possible.
- Total points unlocked between your Battle Engravings (in our example 11 or more) grant you extra Vitality. Points from the Malus Stat are not accounted in this statistic!
- Avoid reaching +5 points into your Malus Stat, as it will unlock a negative Level 1 effect. Learn more about these in our Engraving Guide.
- Use up all Positive and Negative forging attempts! Your Ability Stone cannot be equipped before this process is done and won't count as completed otherwise.
Tier 4 Ability Stones
In Tier 4 ability stones work a bit differently. They're still cut and used the same way, but the bonuses provided count towards your equipped engravings, empowering them. Each Combat Engraving has different scaling, for example Grudge Ability stones provide extra damage depending on how many nodes you got for that particular line.
Each engraving line will have a maximum achievable bonus level based on remaining nodes. The amount of nodes required for each level are:
- Level 1: 6 successful nodes
- Level 2: 7 successful nodes
- Level 3: 9 successful nodes
- Level 4: 10 successful nodes
In the case of the Malus effect, the required nodes for each level are the following:
- Level 1: 5 successful nodes
- Level 2: 7 successful nodes
- Level 3: 10 successful nodes
Additionally, when the combined levels of your Engravings in your stone is 5 or higher (a 9/7 or 10/6 stone, or better), they provide an additional 1.5% of Attack Power.
Ability Stone Upgrade
Relic Ability Stones can be upgraded to Ancient quality. Ancient Ability Stones provide a significant amount of HP to your character.
Each Ability Stone level upgrade will cost you 3000 Gold and some specific material obtained from the Kayangel Abyssal Dungeon raid.
In Tier 4 (1640+ item level), you can also upgrade your previous Ability Stones to a "Tier 4 Ability Stone" to make it work with the Ark Passive system. This also provides some more HP.
Ability Stone Upgrade | Material Required | Required ilvl |
Level 1 | 4x Light Spear | 1540 |
Level 2 | 4x Crystal of Order | 1540 |
Level 3 | 4x Brilliant Orb | 1540 |
Level 4 | 4x Book of Judgment | 1580 |
Tier 4 | 300x Sacred Powder of Mistery | 1640 |
You can "skip" levels and upgrade directly to the next one if you have the correct resources, but it will still cost you the cumulative gold from the previous steps (for example, upgrading from Relic directly to Level 4 will cost you 4x Book of Judgment and 12000 Gold).
Dismantle and Exchange
Before dismantling, check if the stone has good Engraving combinations. Consider selling those you can't benefit from on the Auction House, as other players can! These can be worth a sizeable amount of Gold.
Didn't like your outcome? Maybe the stone has bad Engravings? Simply dismantle it and gain back a small portion of its original worth in Powders of Mystery. Accumulate these over time and exchange them at the Stone Cutter NPC for fresh Ability Stones. Roughly 10 dismantled stones will grant you enough Powder of Mystery to purchase one back.
