Overview
Hero Talents
- Farseer focuses on Single Target healing and provides a significant damage increase compared to Totemic, While Totemic focuses on AoE healing and Cooldown strength.
- In a Raid environment Totemic is the easiest to play and performs better than Farseer if stacking is allowed.
- Surging Totem
- Summons a totem that maintains Healing Rain around it
- It is important to think about the placement of the Surging Totem as the duration is 24 seconds, you can always utilize Totemic Projection to move it, including Healing Rain
- Whirling Elements.
- Everytime you summon Surging Totem you get 3 different element buffs that affect your next healing abilities.
- Water - Makes your next Healing Wave or Healing Surge cleave to an ally within your healing rain.
- Air - Cast time of your next healing spell is reduced by 40%.
- Earth - Your next Chain Heal will apply Earthliving Weapon to all targets hit.
- Everytime you summon Surging Totem you get 3 different element buffs that affect your next healing abilities.
- Call of the Ancestors
- Call an ancestor to your side after benefiting from Undulation or Unleash Life for a few seconds.
- 10 Seconds if you benefit from Undulation
- 16 Seconds if you benefit from Unleash Life
- When you cast a healing or damage spell, your Ancestor casts a similar spell.
- Call an ancestor to your side after benefiting from Undulation or Unleash Life for a few seconds.
- Ancestral Swiftness
- This works the same as Nature's Swiftness, but now making it a lot stronger and plays a big part in the Farseer playstyle.
- After activating the Ancestral Swiftness, you summon an Ancestor for 10 seconds.
Talents
When to use this Spec
This is the default loadout going into any encounter. You have to adjust the class talent tree based on the utility needed for the encounter. To make your life easier, boss-specific talent loadouts are available in the Raid section.
Gameplay Altering Talents
Discover all talents that significantly alter your gameplay within the Spec and Class Talent trees. This section gives a concise overview of these talents and their applications but for a more detailed look check out the Rotation and Deep Dive sections below.
Spec Tree
- Ancestral Reach
- Strong boost to your AoE healing.
- Downpour
- After every Healing Rain you receive 1 use of Downpour which heals and increases maximum health by 10% to 5 allies within Healing Rain.
- Ancestral Vigor
- Great talent to provide survivability to you and your party, your core healing spells provide a 10% health increase.
- High Tide
- Spending enough mana gives you 2 enhanced Chain Heals, try to combine these with Tidebringer.
- Tidebringer
- Every 8 sec, your next Chain Heals jump distance is increased by 100%, and stacks up to 2 charges. This allows you to save up the charges when you know a crucial moment is coming up.
- Cloudburst Totem
- This totem accumulates a portion of your healing while it's up and should nearly always be used on cooldown unless you need to delay its use for specific timing or a damage event.
Which provides more on-demand healing.
- This totem accumulates a portion of your healing while it's up and should nearly always be used on cooldown unless you need to delay its use for specific timing or a damage event.
- Unleash Life
- Buffs your next healing spell, great ability for different situations.
- Earthliving Weapon
- Imbue your weapon, causing your core healing abillities to trigger additional healing on your target.
Hero Talents
- Oversurge
- Buffing your Surging Totem during one of your strongest healing cooldowns, making your cooldowns even more valuable. This now also provides Insurance! to the targets.
- Wind Barrier
- Gives you an absorb shield when you have an active totem, this adds to your survivability
- Supportive Imbuements
- New imbue for your shield, you are required to play a shield when you play Totemic as this imbue increases your healing done and the duration of your Healing Stream Totem.
- Oversized Totems
- Increases the size and radius of your totems, which can be helpful on fights that require your raid to move or dodge certain mechanics. The more radius you cover the easier it is to ensure you cover everyone in your raid with totems such as Spirit Link Totem
- Lively Totems
- Your healing totems will cast a free chain heal when summoned, making it easy for you to deal with quick damage intake.
Rotation
Tier Set
- 2-Set: Your healing spells have a chance to apply Insurance! to their targets that heals them over 15 sec. Insurance! is consumed if an ally drops below 40% health to heal them.
- (4pc): When you cast HR, 1 ally will get Insurance!, when Insurance! is consumed you get 10% bonus healing to your Chain Heal, Healing Surge and Healing Wave.
This set further emphasizes on Tidal Waves and you have to ensure to always have Tidal Waves up before using your affected healing spells.
Priority List
- Cast High Tide buffed Chain Heals if 3+ allies require healing.
- Cast Surging Totem on cooldown.
- Cast Downpour if your allies are injured.
- Cast Riptide on cooldown for Tidal Waves.
- Cast Cloudburst Totem to avoid overcapping on charges.
- Cast Unleash Life on cooldown.
- Consume Unleash Life on Chain Heal if High Tide is active, otherwise Healing Rain/Downpour.
- Cast Chain Heal if 3+ allies are missing health.
- Cast Healing Wave.
- Refresh Earth Shield.
For Damage
- Maintain Healing Rain on the boss if talented into Acid Rain.
- Cast Chain Lightning if there are 2+ enemies/bosses.
- Maintain Flame Shock.
- Cast Lava Burst.
- Cast Lightning Bolt.
Cooldowns
Cloudburst Totem / Healing Stream Totem
- Playing with Cloudburst Totem, the totem accumulates a portion of your healing while it's up and should nearly always be used on cooldown unless you need to delay its use for specific timing or a damage event.
- If you instead play with Healing Stream Totem, this totem frequently heals injured allies within 46 yards.
- You can read more about Cloudburst Totem / Healing Stream Totem in the Deep dive section below.
Ascendance
- Use Ascendance when your raid is dying as it's your strongest healing cooldown as there is a strong intial heal, followed up by duplicating all healing you deal by 70% for 15 seconds, split evenly among allies within 40 yards.
Healing Tide Totem
- This totem is one of your baseline throughput cooldowns and it heals all allies within 40 yards. It's a great cooldown to use when your globals are tight and the HPS requirements are high, or during heavy movement.
Spirit Link Totem
- This totem is one of the most unique cooldowns in the game with the power to redistribute your allies' health to have the same percentage of maximum health every second. It also grants your allies a 15% damage reduction for whoever is within the radius.
- Spirit Link Totem is an extremely powerful cooldown to counter overwhelming damage on your raid and also has great synergy with Darkness.
Deep Dive
Min maxing Deluge
- Deluge is one of your early Restoration talents and is crucial to consider when you need that extra throughput. Placing a good Healing Rain can save you from spending more globals than necessary while maintaining high uptime of Deluge.
- If it is not possible to stay stacked for Healing Rain, prioritize to use Riptide on range players to fully utilize Deluge.
Min maxing Tidal Waves
- While Tidal Waves is almost always up due to Riptide being a short cooldown spell, it is important to stack up your Tidal Waves before a lethal damage event, allowing you to cast your strong healing spells without having to worry about using Riptide in between.
- It buffs your next Healing Wave, Chain Heal or Healing Surge.
Min maxing Call of the Ancestors
- Your main goal with the Hero Talent Farseer, is to call Ancestors to your side to aid you. As there is constant damage in raids, playing with Undulation is recommended due to the low mana cost of Healing Wave, You become the strongest spothealer in your raid.
- Use Ancestral Swiftness on cooldown, or before a specific damage event when more healing is required.
Min maxing Cloudburst
- Cloudburst is one of your strongest tools. Being able to make full use of Cloudburst is extremely important and helps with any throughput issues you might encounter.
- Before you place Cloudburst, there are a few things you can prepare. Spread out Riptide, placing down Healing Rain right before Cloudburst.
- Your Cloudburst also interacts with Ascendance. Both abilities are extremely powerful when combined, and thanks toFirst Ascendant, they both share the same cooldown of 2 minutes, and is transferred to your Cloudburst.
- If you play with Healing Stream Totem instead of Cloudburst, You don't have to think about this at all and should use Healing Stream Totem when someone in your party is injured.
Understanding Mechanics
Rotational min-maxing is just one aspect of mastering a specialization, but there are numerous other key mechanics that influence your performance. Use the following guides to improve them.

Stat Priority
Understand your secondary stat priority and the tertiary stats needed for optimal performance during Raid boss fights as a Restoration Shaman. For more detailed information, visit the Stats and Attributes guide.
The Conclusion here is that you want to equip the highest item level generally.
- Blizzard introduced Stat drs, which you should be aware of. To get to know what those are and why you have to care about them click here to get to our detailed stat DR resource post!
Tertiary
- Avoidance - Reduces damage taken from AoE effects.
- Leech - Returns a portion of your damage and healing done as healing to you. (Excludes self healing)
- Speed - increases movement speed. (Does stack with other movement speed abilities)
The only time you should think about picking a lower item level is if it has Leech or Avoidance. Speed is nice to have, but you shouldn't consider this stat when choosing between two items.

Races
For min-maxing a Restoration Shaman in Mythic Raiding, different racial traits can provide a tremendous benefit to your characters. If this is not your top goal, picking a race that fits your style works just as well.
- Berserking -- Troll
- Increases your haste by 10% for 12 sec.
- Stoneform -- Dwarf
- Dispels Magic and Bleed debuffs. Has been useful in the past on some bosses with Bleeds.
- Rocket Jump -- Goblin
- Small jump in the direction your character is facing, any mobility is always useful in raids.
- Ancestral Call -- Mag'har Orc
- 2 minute cooldown that gives you a high amount of secondary stats.
Recommendation:
While Rocket Jump offers you a quick way to move your character, it is not as crucial any longer due to our Talents allowing us to get Gust of Wind.
Therefore it is recommended to pick Mag'har Orc for their Ancestral Call racial that gives you a large boost to either of your top 2 secondary stats for 15 sec.

Changes this Patch
- SHAMAN
- Ghost Wolf visuals have been updated to scale with player model, and have been made more transparent to reduce visual clutter.
- Lightning Bolt has a new spell visual.
- Ancestral Guidance has been removed.Developers’ notes: We have a couple goals we are trying to address with this change. One is to reduce the overlap between Ascendance and Ancestral Guidance for Restoration. They both serve a similar purpose and are often combined together. Second, we’d like to bolster Enhancement and Elementals off-healing utility from intentional global cooldown usage while pulling back on more passive ways to restore group health.
- The initial shield from Stone Bulwark Totem is no longer dispellable. The repeating shields will continue to be dispellable.
- Restoration
- Developers’ notes: Our updates to Restoration Shaman are focused on simplification, condensing keybind space, and adding support to Riptide focused builds.
- New Talent: Mana Tide – Healing Tide Totem now additionally grants 80% increased mana regeneration to allies.
- New Talent: Therazane’s Resilience – Earth Shield and Water Shield no longer lose charges and are 115% effective.
- New Talent: Whispering Waves – 10% of Healing Wave’s healing is duplicated onto each of your targets with Riptide.
- Healing Wave is now learned at level 11 (was a talent).
- Wavespeaker’s Blessing now additionally increases the periodic healing of Riptide by 10/20%.
- Spiritwalker’s Tidal Totem now triggers after casting Healing Tide Totem.
- Downpour now overrides Healing Rain for 8 seconds (was 6 seconds).
- Developers’ notes: We are leaving some room for this to expire before the cooldown of Healing Rain or Surging Totem becomes available to avoid having to cancel the buff or wait for it to expire when Downpour is not necessary to cast.
- The starter build has been updated.
- Several talents have moved locations.
- Ancestral Vigor is now a 2-point talent.
- The following talents have been removed:
- Healing Wave (now learned at level 11)
- Mana Tide Totem
- Primordial Wave
- All healing increased by 5%.
- Acid Rain damage increased by 25%.
- Fixed an issue that caused Therazane’s Resilience to not function correctly with external Earth Shields.
- Developers’ notes: This baseline healing adjustment is aimed at keeping Restoration Shaman’s overall throughput similar to their level before Ancestral Guidance was removed.
- Master of the Elements now lasts 30 seconds (was 15 seconds).
- Farseer
- All Ancestor healing now benefits from Mastery: Deep Healing.
- All Ancestor healing reduced by 15%.
- Ancestors now cast Healing Wave when the Shaman casts Healing Wave. Healing Wave heals for slightly more than Healing Surge.
- Whispering Waves now also duplicates Healing Wave healing done by Ancestors.
- Maelstrom Supremacy now increases the healing of Healing Wave, Healing Surge, Wellspring, Downpour, and Chain Heal by 15% (was 8%).
- Elemental Reverb now increases Riptide healing by 10% (was 5%).
- Totemic
- Downpour now overrides Surging Totem for 22 seconds (was 12 seconds).
FAQ
A: Only the target that has Earth Shield gets the benefit of increased healing regardless if it's your initial Chain Heal target or the last bounce.
