Overview
Hero Talents
- Chronowarden buffs a lot of your healing abilities and turns Tip the Scales into a strong cooldown.
- Flameshaper also buffs a lot of your healing abilities and gives youEngulf which is a cooldown that does big AoE healing through Consume Flame.
- Overall I recommend playing Chronowarden because it is very strong right now with all the buffs to your healing abilities and the DPS output it provides. So this guide will focus on playing that build.
- Chrono Flame
- Makes your Living Flame turn into Chrono Flame which is a Bronze spell, which will give you stacks towards Temporal Compression, and will repeat 15% of the damage or healing you dealt to the target in the last 5 seconds.
- Warp transforms your normal Hover into a Blink
- This currently only works when you are on or close to solid ground, if you are too high up in the air it functions like a normal Hover. Be cautious, as this has a small delay.
- Temporal Burst
- Turns your Tip the Scales into a strong cooldown, increasing Haste, Movement Speed, and Cooldown recovery rate by 30%, decreasing by 1% every second during the 30s duration of Temporal Burst.
- Reverberations
- This makes your Spiritbloom apply an additional HoT for 30% of its healing over 8 seconds, and Primacy gives you 3% Haste for each rank you empowered it with, up to 9%.
- Temporality
- If timed correctly Temporality can be very strong as a minor defensive cooldown whenever you are out of everything else.
- Threads of Fate
- Causes your empowered spells to provide a chance to echo their damage and healing by 15% of the amount again.
- Double-time
- Dream Breath and Fire Breath duration is extended by 2 sec, up to 12 sec, when they Crit.
- Instability Matrix
- Your empowered spell gets reduced by up to 6 sec when you cast it.
- Golden Opportunity
- When you cast Echo it has a 20% chance of causing your next one to be 100% stronger.
- Afterimage
- Each time you cast an empowered spell, up to 3 targets that you hit additionally get a Chrono Flame cast onto them.
Talents
When to use this Spec
This is the default loadout going into any dungeon. You have to adjust the class talent tree based on the utility needed for the affix and dungeon combo. To make your life easier, Dungeon specific talent loadouts are available in the Dungeons section.
Gameplay Altering Talents
Discover all talents that significantly alter your gameplay within the Spec and Class Talent trees. This section gives a concise overview of these talents and their applications but for a more detailed look check out the Rotation and Deep Dive sections below.
Spec Tree
- Rewind
- Applies to 33% of the damage taken in the last 5 seconds, you heal that amount back.
- Time Dilation
- Your external cooldown staggers 50% of the damage taken over the next 8 seconds.
- Emerald Communion
- Heals you and recovers some mana, any overhealing heals instead of an injured ally.
- When paired together with Lifebind this is a very powerful cooldown.
- Call of Ysera
- Verdant Embrace increases the healing of your next Dream Breath by 40% or your next Living Flame by 100%.
- Resonating Sphere
- Temporal Anomaly applies Echo at 30% effectiveness.
- Stasis
- Duplicate and store your next 3 healing spells.
- Lifebind
- Verdant Embrace applies Lifebind which causes your healing on either partner to heal the other for 40% of the amount and lasts 5 seconds.
- Lifespark
- Your Reversion has a chance to cause your Living Flame to be instant cast and deal 50% more damage.
- Energy Loop
- Disintegrate deals 35% more damage and generates 126k mana.
Class Tree
- Zephyr
- Reduce damage taken from AoE effects by 20% to all allies within 20 yards for 8 seconds. Also increases movement speed by 30%.
- Tip the Scales
- Makes your next Empowered spell instant cast at max rank.
- Cauterizing Flame
- Unique dispel that removes bleeds, as well as poison, curse, and disease.
- Oppressing Roar
- A frontal cone that increases CC duration by 50% on enemies hit.
- If talented into Overawe this ability also dispels all Enrage effects on enemies hit. It also has its cooldown reduced based on the amount of targets hit.
- Twin Guardian
- Turns Rescue into a strong defensive.
- Fire Within
- Reduces the cooldown of Renewing Blaze by 30 seconds.
Hero Talents
- Temporality
- If timed correctly Temporality can be very strong as a minor defensive cooldown whenever you are out of everything else.
- Double-time
- Dream Breath and Fire Breath duration is extended by 2 sec, up to 12 sec, when they Crit.
- Instability Matrix
- Your empowered spell gets reduced by up to 6 sec when you cast them.
Rotation
Tier Set
- 2-Set: Your healing spells have a chance to apply Insurance! to their targets that heals them over 15 sec. Insurance! is consumed if an ally drops below 40% health to heal them.
- 4-Set: CastingVerdant Embrace always applies Insurance! for 6 sec on the target and it's cooldown is reduced by 4 sec.
Priority List
For Healing
- Cast max rank Fire Breath to gain Leaping Flames.
- Cast Dream Breath whenever you have Call of Ysera, empower it according to how urgent the healing is.
- Cast Spiritbloom, empower depending on how many party members need healing.
- Cast Temporal Anomaly to apply Echo.
- Spend Essence on Echo.
- Cast Verdant Embrace for high burst healing, and it has a guaranteed chance to apply Insurance! on all the targets.
- Cast Reversion on whatever target requires healing.
- Use Verdant Embrace, keep in mind that you preferably don't spend Call of Ysera on Living Flames if you have the option to use it on Dream Breath.
- Cast Living Flame to gain Essence Burst for free Essence casts.
For Damage
- Cast Fire Breath on cooldown.
- Cast Deep Breath if 3 or more targets and there's no danger of dying during the animation.
- Cast Disintegrate to gain mana back through Energy Loop and if you don't need to use Essence for healing.
- Cast Living Flame.
Cooldowns
Verdant Embrace
- Verdant Embrace essentially becomes a healing cooldown due to Lifebind. Setting this up in combination with Echo is very powerful when used in conjunction with Emerald Communion, but also when casting Spiritbloom or instant Living Flame with Lifespark procs. Verdant Embrace now also applies Insurance! to all targets for extra throughput.
Time Dilation
- Time Dilation is your go-to external whenever there's an ally in danger.
Stasis
- Stasis is a good gap filler between your other healing cooldowns. If there's a dangerous damage event coming up when your Verdant Embrace / Dream Breath combo is on cooldown you should utilize Stasis instead with for example Temporal Anomaly, Spiritbloom and Dream Breath.
Tip the Scales
- Tip the Scales is a good panic button in combination with Dream Breath or Spiritbloom. As Chronowarden you also get a very nice big haste buff from Temporal Burst.
Rewind
- Rewind is the strongest cooldown Evoker has by far and can single-handedly salvage almost any dangerous situation. Due to its massive cooldown, it's best to plan for when you want to use it.
Deep Dive
Min maxing Lifebind
- Set up with Echo on you and the other 3 dps, you can do tank as well but that's not needed. Use Verdant Embrace right after the big damage intake happens, and cast Emerald Communion for a massive heal on your group. You can more or less heal any damage intake event with this combo. You can also use Spiritbloom and instant cast Living Flame when Emerald Communion is on cooldown and this will do a lot of healing as well. Verdant Embrace now also applies Insurance! to all targets for extra throughput.
Min maxing Rewind
- The more damage you have taken, the more healing Rewind will do. Try and hold off using it so your party takes as much damage as possible but if someone drops below say 30% hp, then you should use it, don't let anyone die by greeding this cooldown.
Understanding Mechanics
Rotational min-maxing is just one aspect of mastering a specialization, but there are numerous other key mechanics that influence your performance. Use the following guides to improve them.

Stat Priority
Understand your secondary stat priority and the tertiary stats needed for optimal performance during Mythic+ dungeons as a Preservation Evoker. For more detailed information, visit the Stats and Attributes guide.
The conclusion here is that you want to equip the highest item level generally.
Blizzard introduced Stat DRs that you need to be aware of. To get to know what those are and why you have to care about them click here to get to our detailed stat DR resource post!
Tertiary
- Avoidance - Reduces damage taken from AoE effects.
- Leech - Returns a portion of your damage and healing done as healing to you. (Excludes self healing)
- Speed - increases movement speed. (Does stack with other movement speed abilities)
The only time you should think about picking a lower item level is if it has Leech or Avoidance. Speed is nice to have, but you should generally ignore that stat.
Here is a showcase of how powerful Leech is for a Healer:

Changes this Patch
- Evoker
- Dream Breath now heals yourself and 5 injured allies (was 5 injured allies).Developers’ notes: This guarantees a Dream Breath heal over time effect will always be on yourself, so you never have to purposely miss allies with the breath cone.
- Dream Breath and Reversion no longer snapshot with Mastery: Lifebinder. Instead, they will re-evaluate the Mastery bonus each time they tick based on the target’s current health and yours.
- The Liberation of Undermine 4-set bonus now works with Echoed Verdant Embraces.
- Liberation of Undermine Class Set – Insurance heal over time reduced by 30%.
- Liberation of Undermine Class Set – Insurance healing from triggering its low-health effect reduced by 15%.
- Developers’ notes: Emerald Blossom has historically triggered Echo for consistency reasons, but this has made it difficult to weave these spells together effectively. We’re updating Echo to no longer trigger from Emerald Blossom so players who want to make use of Emerald Blossom can do so without “wasting” any active Echoes.
- Emerald Blossom may no longer be Echoed.
- Echo’s tooltip has been updated. It now states that Essence spells cannot be Echoed.
- Flameshaper
- Developers’ notes: We’re looking to improve some of the weaker talents for Flameshaper and enable them to be more effective in dungeon content. Instead of increasing duration and spreading Fire Breath and Dream Breath, Flameshapers can now cast Fire Breath and Dream Breath more often, and have them deal more damage/healing in a compressed window of time. In addition, we’re adding a way to opt out of Enkindle so that Echo builds can function better with Flameshaper.
- New Talent: Fulminous Roar – Fire Breath and Dream Breath deal their damage and healing in 20% less time.
- Traveling Flame has been redesigned – No longer increases Dream Breath or Fire Breath duration and spreads. Instead, reduces the cooldown of Fire Breath or Dream Breath by 5 seconds when you cast Engulf.
- Engulf’s cooldown is now reduced by Haste.
- Titanic Precision no longer references Reversion critically striking for Preservation, as it cannot critically heal on application.
- Conduit of Flame Critical Strike chance increased to 15% (was 10%). Now correctly specifies that it increases critical strike chance above 50% health for Preservation.
- Expanded Lungs is now a choice talent against Enkindle.
- Fan the Flames has been removed.
Enkindle deals 25% of Essence ability damage (was 20%).- Enkindle reverted back to 20% of Essence ability damage.
- Engulf cooldown reduced to 27 seconds (was 30 seconds).
- Consume Flame now consumes 2 seconds of Fire Breath and Dream Breath (was 4 seconds). Consume Flame damage is now 750% of the amount consumed (was 375%) and healing is now 300% of the amount consumed (was 150%).
- Expanded Lungs increases the damage or healing over time of Fire Breath and Dream Breath by 30% (was 25%).
- Consume Flame damage is now increased by Scorching Embers.
- Draconic Instincts chance to trigger from smaller damage events has been significantly increased.
FAQ
A: You cast too many Emerald Blossom and Temporal Anomaly.
A: You need to make good use of Echo ramps into Dream Breath, Spiritbloom and Reversion more.
A: Maintain Reversion generally, then you can use Dream Breath and Spiritbloom for big heals. For bigger burst healing you should use Verdant Embrace which guarantees your 4-set bonus on all targets.
