Welcome to the Holy Paladin Mythic+ guide for the World of Warcraft patch 11.0.5! This guide covers everything you need to know to understand your character! Are you starting out and leveling up from 70? Check out the leveling guide!
Overview
Hero Talents
- Herald of the Sun focuses on healing and Cooldown strength, while Lightsmith focuses on survivability and damage done.
- Theoretically Lightsmith seems like a perfect choice for Mythic+ environment but in practice it lacks healing power required in most of The War Within dungeons therefore Herald of the Sun is your default choice and this guide focuses only on it.
- Casting Avenging Wrath or activating Awakening applies Dawnlight to nearby allies. While Avenging Wrath is active you are linked with beam lines to all targets with Dawnlight healing/damaging anything crossing them.
- After using Holy Prism you can apply 2 more Dawnlight with your Holy Power spenders.
- While Dawnlight is active your Holy Power spenders are 5% stronger thanks to Gleaming Rays.
- With Solar Grace your haste is increased while Dawnlight is active. This effect stacks.
- Your core spec abilities are enhanced by the following nodes:
- Word of Glory is replaced by Eternal Flame making it even stronger with extra HoT effect on top.
- Holy Shock and Light of Dawn are empowered with:
- Luminosity that increases critical strike chance by 5%.
- Sun Sear which procs on critical strikes.
- Second Sunrise giving 15% chance to cast again at 30% effectiveness.
- Casting Holy Prism procs Divine Purpose.
- Holy Armaments rotates between Sacred Weapon and Holy Bulwark allowing you to buff both yourself and your target with current Armament.
- While wielding Sacred Weapon your spells and abilities have a chance to deal extra damage or healing.
- With Holy Bulwark up you get 15% max health absorb and an extra 2% absorb every 2 seconds.
- Divine Inspiration, Forewarning, Laying Down Arms and Valiance allow you to have higher uptime on Armaments.
- Activating Avenging Wrath summons another Sacred Weapon. While Avenging Wrath is active Sacred Weapon echoes your Holy Power spenders.
- Your active aura is 33% stronger on allies with Armaments thanks to Shared Resolve.
- While wielding an Armament the duration of Fear effects is reduced due to Fear No Evil talent.
- Few abilities are enhanced by the following nodes:
- Divine Guidance makes Consecration stronger with each Holy Power spender.
- Hammer and Anvil triggers a small burst of damage/healing around your target when Judgment critically strikes.
- Rite of Sanctification increases your armor by 5% and primary stat by extra 1% while imbued on your weapon.
Talents
When to use this Spec
This is the default loadout going into any dungeon as it specializes in healing for every situation. You have to adjust the class talent tree based on the utility needed for the affix and dungeon combo. To make your life easier, Dungeon specific talent loadouts are available in the Dungeons section.
Gameplay Altering Talents
Discover all talents that significantly alter your gameplay within the Spec and Class Talent trees. This section gives a concise overview of these talents and their applications but for a more detailed look check out the Rotation and Deep Dive sections below.
Spec Tree
- Beacon of Virtue or Beacon of Faith
- Beacon of Virtue is the go-to talent by default due to the vast amount of bursty healing checks in the current dungeon pool.
- Holy Prism
- On its own it is not as strong as it used to be in the last 2 seasons of Dragonflight but as Herald of the Sun it gives access to Dawnlight which makes it very important. On top of that it procs Divine Favor and Divine Purpose on use. Ideally you want to pair it with Awakening proc in order to get 2 more Sun's Avatar beams.
- Divine Favor
- Divine Favor provides big chunky Holy Lights on every other Beacon of Virtue which helps a lot on fights that require AoE burst healing very frequently. It procs passively now on Holy Prism cast which is a nice quality of life change.
- Awakening
- Helps a lot with Avenging Wrath uptime throughout the dungeon. Should be used mostly with Divine Toll or Holy Prism inside Beacon of Virtue window for more healing or for damage.
- Tower of Radiance
- For the majority of time you do not need to cast any spell even during intensive healing fights but when you actually have to, this talent comes clutch allowing you to still build Holy Power with Flash of Light instead of having dead global cooldowns.
- Saved by the Light + Glistening Radiance + Light's Protection
- A combination of these 3 talents makes your beacons provide a huge amount of extra survivability on beacons targets. With well timed Beacon of Virtue this combo contributes to a large amount of your healing.
- Rising Sunlight
- Very strong talent that makes your cooldown windows even better. Watch out to not overcap your Holy Power with Holy Shock!
- Blessing of Summer
- Going into the new expansion Blessing of Summer got reworked so that it can be used either for extra healing or damage. In dungeons, you mostly use it on yourself during Avenging Wrath. It shines on fights where you have to heal a lot for the whole duration of the buff like Izo` The Grand Splicer in City of Threads.
Class Tree
- Sanctified Plates
- A talent that makes Paladins super tanky even without a defensive cooldown up.
- Divine Toll
- The perfect ability to pair up with Beacon of Virtue. Provides a good chunk of burst healing on short cooldown and procs Rising Sunlight.
- Quickened Invocation
- There is nothing worse than missing a big cooldown by a few seconds and dying because of that. This talent allows you to use Divine Toll even more often if needed. Perfect solution for some fights.
- Of Dusk and Dawn
- Insanely strong talent overall that makes your already strong spenders even stronger thanks to the Blessing of Dawn buff. On top of that, it makes you tankier with Blessing of Dusk up.
- Rebuke
- A must have talent in dungeons. Having a short cooldown interrupt provided by a healer is a massive quality of life.
Rotation
Tier Set
- 2-Set: Holy Shock healing is increased by 10% and its cooldown is reduced by 10%
- 4-Set: Holy Shock increases the initial healing of your next Word of Glory or Light of Dawn by 8%, stacking up to 4 times
This set further empowers your core gameplay of building Holy Power mostly with Holy Shock and spending it on Eternal Flame and Light of Dawn.
Priority List
In both of the following priority lists, the following rules apply:
- DO NOT overcap Holy Power. Your spenders are really strong, even if there isn't much to heal you can always use Shield of the Righteous.
- Cast Holy Shock as much as possible. It is the bread and butter of Holy Paladin.
For Healing
- Keep Consecration down to maintain Strength of Conviction. Refresh it before dmg event happens if needed.
- Cast Beacon of Virtue for Aoe healing if needed otherwise can skip it to save Mana.
- Cast Holy Prism on an enemy for Aoe healing.
- Spend Holy Power on Eternal Flame if at 5 Holy Power.
- Cast Holy Shock.
- If Divine Favor is up spend it on Holy Light with Infusion of Light.
- Spend Infusion of Light on Flash of Light or Judgment. If mana allows and more spot healing needed on demand cast Holy Light.
- Spend Holy Power.
- Cast Flash of Light if you need immediate heal.
- Cast Judgment.
- Cast Crusader Strike.
- Cast Hammer of Wrath if usable.
- Cast Flash of Light if nothing else is available and you still need an immediate heal.
For Damage
- Keep Consecration down.
- If at 5 Holy Power cast Shield of the Righteous.
- Cast Holy Prism.
- Cast Hammer of Wrath if usable.
- Cast Holy Shock.
- Cast Crusader Strike.
- Cast Judgment.
- Cast Shield of the Righteous.
- Keep Consecration down.
- If at 5 Holy Power cast Shield of the Righteous.
- Cast Holy Prism on an Ally for AoE damage.
- Cast Judgment.
- Cast Hammer of Wrath if usable.
- Cast Holy Shock.
- Cast Crusader Strike.
- Cast Shield of the Righteous.
Cooldowns
Avenging Wrath
- An iconic paladin cooldown which now is very strong on its own thanks toHerald of the Sun. Ideally you want to pair it up with other smaller cooldowns like Divine Toll and Holy Prism to increase their power. What makes this cooldown really unique is its flexibility. If you don't need it for extra healing it is completely fine to use it for damage to speed up a dungeon run.
Divine Toll
- Your main cooldown that should be used almost on CD because of how often it is available. Just like with Avenging Wrath you can use it for both damage and healing depending on the situation. It also procs Rising Sunlight which makes it even burstier.
Tyr's Deliverance
- Going into TWW, Tyr's Deliverance has been nerfed significantly, making it a very weak cooldown that you only use to gain access to Relentless Inquisitor. Use it on cooldown whenever you anticipate incoming damage and then forget about it.
Aura Mastery
- Mostly used with Devotion Aura to provide one of the raid-wide damage reduction cooldowns. It's not as strong as it used to be but can still be a game changer against some mechanics. Make sure to use it proactively before damage events happen; otherwise, it might be a waste of a global cooldown.
Deep Dive
Understanding cooldown strength
- With the introduction of Herald of the Sun your cooldowns got way stronger than you got used to in Dragonflight. This means that you can get through the hardest healing checks in dungeons with no issues. The trick is to not overuse too many cooldowns on 1 mechanic and then end up having nothing left on the next one.
- Below you can find some of the most common cooldown usages that you need to know, all of them assume Beacon of Virtue being used on top:
- Godlike - Avenging Wrath + Divine Toll.
- Very strong - Avenging Wrath
- Strong - Holy Prism + Divine Toll +Awakening
- Very good - Divine Toll + Awakening
- Good - Holy Prism + Awakening
- Ok - Divine Toll
- Weak - Holy Prism
- Avoid using Avenging Wrath with Holy Prism on fights that require very frequent AoE healing burst ( 20 seconds or less between mechanics) as it results in massive overkill of Dawnlight healing in 5 man dungeon setting.
Min maxing Beacon of Virtue
- Beacon of Virtue is theoretically your strongest cooldown that can be further empowered by combining it with other cooldowns like Avenging Wrath, Divine Toll and even Holy Prism. The combination of all these abilities together results in an ungodly amount of healing on beacon targets to get you through the hardest points of any fight.
- Another thing that is worth mentioning is the fact that you can pre-cast spells and still have them transfer healing through your beacons. Simply precast Holy Light or Flash of Light followed by instant Beacon of Virtue. It's not game changing but provides some extra healing inside the virtue window.
Optimizing Blessing of Summer
- To get the most out Blessing of Summer in dungeons you want to use it offensively on yourself when you know are popping all your output cooldowns for healing. This way you get very good amount of passive damage even while healing the group. It is pretty niche to use it defensively on a DPS but might be a consideration on a VERY hard pull in order to get through it.
- Blessing of Autumn is best being used on a DPS that relies on short cooldowns to use them more often. You might also consider throwing it on yourself during a hard healing check fight in order to make your cooldowns cycle quicker. Blessing of Autumn reduces cooldowns by an extra 9ish seconds during its buff .
- Cast Blessing of Winter always on yourself in dungeons, not much to it.
- You will mostly use Blessing of Spring on yourself to buff your healing but it's also worth noting that at times it is better to throw it on a tank since it also increases healing taken.
Understanding Mechanics
Rotational min-maxing is just one aspect of mastering a specialization, but there are numerous other key mechanics that influence your performance. Use the following guides to improve them.

- Use Blinding Light to interrupt as many orbs as possible.

- There is nothing special you can do to help with this affix. Just focus it down with other dps players.

- Keep an eye behind you and collect any orbs that fly into melee range. Make sure to intercept them before they hit any enemies.
- Xal'atath's Bargain: Devour

Stat Priority
Understand your secondary stat priority and the tertiary stats needed for optimal performance during Mythic+ dungeons as a Holy Paladin. For more detailed information, visit the Stats and Attributes guide.
The conclusion here is that you want to equip the highest item level generally.
Blizzard introduced Stat DRs that you need to be aware of. To get to know what those are and why you have to care about them click here to get to our detailed stat DR resource post!
Tertiary
- Avoidance - Reduces damage taken from AoE effects.
- Leech - Returns a portion of your damage and healing done as healing to you. (Excludes self healing)
- Speed - increases movement speed. (Does stack with other movement speed abilities)
The only time you should think about picking a lower item level is if it has Leech or Avoidance. Speed is nice to have, but you should generally ignore that stat.
Here is a showcase of how powerful Leech is for a Healer:
Gear
Due to the way stat weights work for Holy Paladin, there isn't a strict best-in-slot list. Although it is theoretically possible to obtain items with all the correct Tertiaries, doing so requires extraordinary luck or several human lifespans because of the weekly reset system in World of Warcraft.

This list shows the best items for healing in Raids from all sources. Keep in mind that getting different tier pieces with Leech / Avoidance changes which off-piece is best for you. Likewise, any other non-trinket item with Leech / Avoidance replaces the one suggested here.
Below you are presented with a good list of farmable alternatives that are obtainable outside of WoW’s weekly lockout system. While replaced in time as you progress, these offer immediate character power.

Races
For min-maxing a Holy Paladin in Mythic+ Dungeons, different racial traits can provide a tremendous benefit to your characters. If this is not your top goal, picking a race that fits your style works just as well.
- Stoneform -- Dwarf
- Removes all magic, bleed, poison, and disease effects and reduces physical damage taken
- Use-cases:
- Mistveil Bitefrom Mistveil Stalkers (Mists of Tirna Scithe).
- Bloodletting stacks from Drust Spiteclaws (Mists of Tirna Scithe).
- Putrid Waters from Viqgoth (Siege of Boralus).
- Void Infection from Cursedheart Invaders (The Stonevault).
- Enveloping Shadowflame from Twilight Warlocks (Grim Batol).
- Venomous Spit from Engorged Crawlers (Ara-Kara).
- Cultivated Poisons from Kikatal The Harvester (Ara-Kara).
Recommendation:
It is highly recommended you play a Dwarf this season! The higher the keys you run, the more essential Stoneform becomes in certain dungeons, such as The Stonevault and others.
