Beast Mastery Hunter Mythic+ Guide
Welcome to the Beast Mastery Hunter Mythic+ guide for the World of Warcraft patch 11.0! This guide covers everything you need to know to understand your character! Are you starting out and leveling up from 70? Check out the leveling guide!
Talent Build knowledge is limited and self tested.
Overview
Hero Talents
- The new patch brings about a newly reworked Dark Ranger hero talent tree that outperforms Pack Leader in both AoE and ST
- Your Kill Shot is replaced by Black Arrow.
- Just like Kill Shot you can only use Black Arrow whenever your target is at a certain HP threshold. Normally this is 20% but changes once The Bell Tolls is talented allowing for use above 80% and below 20%.
- Also since Beast Mastery Hunter's gained access to Deathblow this patch there are multiple new hero talents that reset Black Arrows cooldown.
- Bleak Arrows
- Ebon Bowstring
- The new talent tree also gives you massive amounts of passive AoE damage. Currently the largest source from the tree is Bleak Powder with Shadow Surge being a smaller amount.
- Your capstone Withering Fire, is entirely passive. This should still be tracked though because in AoE it will contribute to a large portion of your damage and in ST it's a bonus that allows you to do the rest of your rotation without having to worry about Deathblow for a few seconds.
- Also with the amount of passive shadow damage that we now do Embrace the Shadows is an interesting choice vs Smoke Screen.
- Every other Kill Command you cast also casts Vicious Hunt.
- During Call of the Wild you always have Vicious Hunt active.
- Additionally whenever Vicious Hunt is triggered your next Barbed Shot causes your pet to also use it's basic attack regardless of it's current focus.
- Your Kill Command is further empowered through Frenzied Tear.
- Your Frenzied Tear also has a chance to proc Furious Assault.

Gameplay Altering Talents
Discover all talents that significantly alter your gameplay within the Spec and Class Talent trees. This section gives a concise overview of these talents and their applications but for a more detailed look check out the Rotation and Deep Dive sections below.
Spec Tree
- Animal Companion
- Large single-target and AoE increase since your secondary pet will now cast Kill Command.
- Multi-Shot
- Only casted to maintain Beast Cleave.
- Hunter's Prey
- Small single-target increase, not used in AoE.
- Beast Cleave
- Your main source of AoE damage.
- Kill Cleave
- Large AoE increase since Kill Command is your #1 damage source.
- Dire Beast
- Medium amount of damage on a short cooldown.
- This also gives you access to Huntmaster's Call which is a large single-target increase.
- Call of the Wild
- Your main burst cooldown.
- Further buffed by Bloody Frenzy.
- Basilisk Collar
- A smaller passive damage increase as you will always have 2-3 DoT's on your target at all times.
Class Tree
- Padded Armor
- A large survivability increase since you gain an extra charge of Survival of the Fittest.
- Scout's Instincts
- Nice quality of life passive incase there are slow effects during encounters.
- Implosive Trap
- Can be exchanged with High Explosive Trap if you need a knockback effect instead.
- Emergency Salve
- A survivability increase on encounters with poisons or diseases present.
Hero Talents
- Shadow Hounds
- A more consistent damage source vs Soul Drinker and now have the newly added benefit of being able to Beast Cleave.
- Ebon Bowstring
- Phantom Pain is outperformed even in AoE because of Bleak Powder.
- Embrace the Shadows
- Since we have loads of passive shadow damage built into our kit now this is a good passive leech source. If you want the more proactive choice Smoke Screen is still good.
Rotation
Tier Set
- 2-Set: Barbed Shot further increases your pet's attack speed by 5%.
- 4-Set: Your pet's attacks have a 10% chance to increase all pet damage you deal by 10% for 10 seconds.
Single-Target
Opener
- Your goal is to cast as many Kill Commands as possible while also keeping at least 1 Barbed Shot charge on cooldown.
- Use your active trinkets, Tempered Potion and racials like Blood Fury or Berserking after using Call of the Wild.
Priority List
This is a general priority you aim to maintain throughout the fight.
- Cast Kill Command if it's available.
- Cast Black Arrow.
- Cast Barbed Shot if Kill Command is on cooldown.
- Cast Dire Beast if it's available.
- Cast Cobra Shot if Barbed Shot and Kill Command are on cooldown.
AoE
Opener
- Your goal is to cast as many Kill Commands as possible while maintaining uptime on Beast Cleave.
- Use your active trinkets, Tempered Potion, and racials like Blood Fury or Berserking after using Call of the Wild.
Priority List
- Cast Multi-Shot if Beast Cleave isn't active or will expire in less than 2 seconds.
- Cast Black Arrow while Beast Cleave is active.
- Cast Kill Command if it's available.
- Cast Barbed Shot if Kill Command is on cooldown.
- Cast Explosive Shot if there's 4+ stacked targets.
- Cast Dire Beast if it's available.
- Cast Cobra Shot if Barbed Shot and Kill Command are on cooldown.
Deep dive
Maximizing your damage output during Bestial Wrath.
- Ensure you are going into Bestial Wrath with at least 1 charge of Kill Command, but having 2 is best.
- Make sure you don't focus starve yourself by weaving in Barbed Shots during this window and not letting it over-cap on charges.
- Try to line this damage window up with either of the buffs provided by Huntmaster's Call. These are quite large and Bestial Wrath windows are further buffed by these.
Tracking Thrill of the Hunt and knowing when to use Barbed Shot.
- Unless you have 1 point in Scent of Blood, never cast 2 Barbed Shots back-to-back.
- Outside of Bestial Wrath you want to have at least one spell cast between Barbed Shot casts.
- During Bestial Wrath you want to cast Barbed Shot as little as possible and focus on resetting Kill Command through Cobra Shot.
- High Thrill of the Hunt uptime comes from doing these things and just naturally spacing out uses of Barbed Shot.
Below, you find an example of how to correctly manage Barbed Shot casts.
- This is not a fixed rotation; This is just one example of how to play during your Bestial Wrath window. War Orders procs can increase your amount of Kill Command resets without needing to cast Cobra Shot along with Wild Call increasing the amount of Barbed Shot resets you can have.
Understanding Mechanics
Rotational min-maxing is just one aspect of mastering a specialization, but there are numerous other key mechanics that influence your performance. Use the following guides to improve them.

Boss Tips
Avanoxx
- Use Survival of the Fittest on Alerting Shrill. If you start to drop low you can use Exhilaration or Fortitude of the Bear if you have a tenacity pet.
- Avoid kiting Starved Crawlers into the boss else the boss receives Insatiable.
- Use Binding Shot to keep them stacked.
- AoE them down as soon as possible.
- Bait Gossamer Onslaught on the edge of the platform or a pre-determined stack up location. If you feel scared here you can use Exhilaration or Aspect of the Turtle as a safety net.
Anub'zekt
- You can use Disengage to leap away when you're targeted by Burrow Charge. Always charge the boss to the wall he is standing closest to.
- Kill Bloodstained Webmages fast and interrupt Silken Restraints.
Ki'katal the Harvester
- Use defensive while you're affected by Cultivated Poisons since it hits like a truck! You can also use Feign Death or Aspect of the Turtle to remove this but be cautious because the waves you spawn go off instantly.
- When you're affected by Grasping Blood you can use any form of crowd control instead of killing it to cancel your root.
Trash Tips
- Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
- Resonant Barrage from Trilling Attendant.
- Horrifying Shrill from Ixin.
- Revolting Volley from Bloodstained Webmage.
- Venom Volley from Blood Overseer.
- Pay extra attention to these casts:
- Alarm Shrill from Sentry Stagshell
- A really long cast that needs to get disrupted.
- Massive Slam from Nerubian Hauler and Hulking Bloodguard
- A short stun that ramps in damage done per cast.
- Alarm Shrill from Sentry Stagshell
Pre Dungeon Start
- You can pre-use Tempered Potion before the key starts for a small DPS increase.
Boss Tips
Orator Krix'vizk
- Always use either Survival of the Fittest or Fortitude of the Bear when you are targeted for Shadows of Doubt.
- Save Exhilaration for Vociferous Indoctrination.
- Aspect of the Cheetah helps you dodge Terrorize.
Fangs of the Queen
- Watch out for Knife Throw. Use defensives if you're targeted by this ability.
- You can use Disengage to dispel Ice Sickles from yourself.
- Try to keep Barbed Shot on both bosses since they share 100% of the damage they take through Twin Fangs.
The Coaglamation
- Use your defensives for Dark Pulse. This happens at 100 boss energy.
- Soaking the orbs that spawn from Viscous Darkness gives you a heal absorb. You can use Exhilaration to remove this.
Izo, the Grand Splicer
- Stay stacked with the rest of the group so the Shifting Anomalies are relatively stacked.
- Use your defensives toward the end of Splice since it always overlaps with either Tremor Slam or Umbral Weave. You can use Exhilaration whenever you start dropping low.
Trash Tips
- Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
- Web Bolt from Sureki Silkbinder.
- Grimweave Blast from Covert Webmancer.
- Mending Web from Covert Webmancer.
- Twist Thoughts from Herald of Anurek.
- Void Wave from Sureki Unnaturaler.
Pre Dungeon Start
- You can pre-use Tempered Potion before the key starts for a small DPS increase.
Boss Tips
E.D.N.A.
- Always stack up to spawn Volatile Spikes close together to ensure you can detonate them all with 1 Refracting Beam.
- Rotate between your defensives whenever they're ready for this ability.
- Try to have 1 charge of Survival of the Fittest ready for Earth Shatterer.
Skarmorak
- Pick up at least 2 stacks of Unstable Fragments before the boss casts Reclaim.
- Use your defensive before Unstable Crash happens or while you have multiple stacks of Unstable Energy.
Master Machinists Brokk and Dorlita
- Always be ready to quickly interrupt Speaker Brokks Molten Metal whenever he jumps away.
- Use your defensive during Exhaust Vents and Blazing Crescendo.
Void Speaker Eirich
- You can use Disengage to quickly get back after dropping Entropy from Entropic Reckoning or depositing your Void Corruption into a Void Rift.
- Use your defensive on Entropic Reckoning whenever you also have Void Corruption at the same time.
Trash Tips
- Focus down Earth Burst Totem from Cursedforge Stoneshaper. They have a low amount of health but are not affected by AoE abilities.
- Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
- Howling Fear from Ghastly Voidsoul.
- Censoring Gear from Turned Speaker.
- Piercing Wail from Void Bound Howler.
- Restoring Metals from Forgebound Mender and Cursedforge Mender.
- Arcing Void from Cursedheart Invader.
Pre Dungeon Start
- You can pre-use Tempered Potion before the key starts for a small DPS increase.
Boss Tips
Speaker Shadowcrown
- Consider using a defensive if you're targeted by Collapsing Night as these prioritize picking ranged. Getting out of this quickly is important since it deals a lot of damage every 0.5 seconds.
- Interrupt Shadow Bolt whenever you can to help your tank.
Anub'ikkaj
- Use defensives for the Dark Orb and Shadowy Decay.
- Since the damage done by Dark Orb is falloff damage, consider pointing it away from any terrain or structures so it can travel as far as possible before colliding with anything.
Rasha'nan
- Use Disengage to quickly deliver Arathi Bombs.
- Be aware of Erosive Spray. It applies Lingering Erosion which is dangerous when combined with other damage events.
- During Phase 2 you can mitigate a lot of damage by using Disengage to quickly leap away after dropping your Spinneret's Strands.

- Night Bolt from Nightfall Shadowmage.
- Ensnaring Shadows from Nightfall Shadowmage.
- Tormenting Beam from Nightfall Darkcaster.
- Umbral Barrier from Nightfall Darkcaster.
Pre Dungeon Start
- You can pre-use Tempered Potion before the key starts for a small DPS increase.
Boss Tips
Ingra Maloch
- Interrupt Spirit Bolt every time a non-tank player is targeted.
- Try to line up your cooldowns with Droman Oulfarran's Droman's Wrath to gain a huge DPS boost. This happens a few seconds after Droman Oulfarran reaches 20% health.
Mistcaller
- Use Freezing Trap on the Illusionary Vulpins to prevent them from reaching their target.
- If your group is not crowd-controlling the Illusionary Vulpins you can also kite them into the bosses Dodge Ball cast to instantly kill them.
- Use your defensives during the Guessing Game.
Tred'ova
- Always play as far away from your tank as possible so you instantly break Mind Link.
- Stay stacked with others before Acid Expulsion is cast so there is more room available to use during the fight.
- You can use Disengage or Aspect of the Cheetah to help with the pull in effect from Coalescing Poison.

- Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
- Spirit Bolt from Drust Harvester.
- Harvest Essence from Drust Harvester.
- Nourish the Forest from Mistveil Tender.
- Bramblethorn Coat from Mistveil Shaper.
- Stimulate Regeneration from Spinemaw Staghorn.
- Stimulate Resistance from Spinemaw Staghorn.

- You can pre-use Tempered Potion before the key starts for a small DPS increase.
Boss Tips
Blightbone
- Use either Survival of the Fittestor Aspect of the Turtle if you're targeted by Heaving Retch.
- You can use Binding Shot on the Carrion Worms if they are stacked.
Amarth, The Harvester
- Use Freezing Trap on either the Reanimated Crossbowman or Reanimated Mage if you're not planning on killing them quickly.
- If any adds are still alive during Final Harvest, use Intimidation to crowd-control them. With them crowd-controlled, the boss doesn't cast Tortured Echoes even though an add is alive.
Surgeon Stitchflesh
- Make sure you're always in a good position to easily line up Meat Hooks with the boss whenever he leaps away.
Nalthor the Rimebinder
- Using Disengage allows you to immune the Frozen Binds.
Trash Tips
- Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
- Drain Fluids from Corpse Harvester and Corpse Collector.
- Necrotic Bolt from Zolramus Sorceror & Zolarmus Necromancer.
- Rasping Scream from Skeletal Marauder.
- Frostbolt Volley from Reanimted Mage.
- Goresplatter from Corpse Collector.
- Repair Flesh from Flesh Crafter.
Pre Dungeon Start
- You can pre-use Tempered Potion before the key starts for a small DPS increase.
Boss Tips
Chopper Redhook
- Line up your cooldowns with the boss walking over Bombs which afflict him with Heavy Ordnance.
- Using Disengage or Aspect of the Cheetah can help you reposition and kite the boss into Bombs.
Dread Captain Lockwood
- Focus down the Ashvane Cannoneer during the phase change to quickly use Unstable Ordnance to get the boss down from the ship.
Hadal Darkfathom
- If you can't find a safe spot for Tidal Surge you can use Aspect of the Turtle to immune the waves.
- Drop the puddles from Break Water away from the pillar in the middle so you can easily stand behind it for Tidal Surge.
Viq'Goth
- Use a defensive if Slam and Putrid Waters overlap with each other.
Trash Tips

Boss Tips
General Umbriss
- Disengage and Aspect of the Cheetah help you dodge Shadowflame Breath from Commanding Roar.
- Rotate between your defensives for Commanding Roar.
- Try to put Rock Spikes toward the edges of the room so you have the middle open for Shadowflame Breath.
Forgemaster Throngus
- Use Survival of the Fittest when you are targeted with Molten Spark.
- Always try to bait Fiery Cleave towards a wall.
Drahga Shadowburner
- Use a defensive during Twilight Buffet.
- Rotate between using Tar Trap, Intimidation and Binding Shot for the adds spawned by Invocation of Shadowflame.
Erudax, the Duke of Below
- Use defensives during Abyssal Corruption and Void Surge.
- Either kill the Twilight Hatchlings very early or after Void Surge has been cast since they leave a stacking Shadow Wound on you when killed.
Trash Tips
- Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
- Earth Bolt from Twilight Earthcaller.
- Mass Tremor from Twilight Earthcaller.
- Shadowflame Bolt from Twilight Beguiler.
- Sear Mind from Twilight Beguiler.
- You can LoS Umbral Wind completely negating the mechanic.
- Rotate between defensives after Ascension is cast since it will do heavy AoE damage.
Pre Dungeon Start
- You can pre-use Tempered Potion before the key starts for a small DPS increase.
Affixes
The Affix system got revamped going into The War Within Season 1 retiring most Affixes as well as introducing new kiss-curse ones while also changing on which key level these appear.
- +2 Affixes -- Rotates on a weekly basis
- Xal'atath's Bargain: Ascendant
- Xal'atath's Bargain: Voidbound
- Xal'atath's Bargain: Oblivion
- Xal'atath's Bargain: Devour
- +4 Affixes -- Alternates between each other on a weekly basis
- Tyrannical
- Fortified
- +7 Affix
- Challenger's Peril
- +10 Affixes -- Alternates between each other on a weekly basis, is always the opposite of the +4 Affix
- Tyrannical
- Fortified
- +12 Affix
- Xal'atath's Guile -- Replaces the +2 Affix
Following you get some useful tips for handling different Mythic+ Affixes as a Beast Mastery Hunter.
- Xal'atath's Bargain: Ascendant
- You can use Counter Shot to interrupt one
- Implosive Trap can also be used to clear a larger clump.
- Xal'atath's Bargain: Voidbound
- This affix gives stacking damage reduction to mobs in combat while it lives, so it should be your #1 priority to make sure this dies relatively quickly.
- Xal'atath's Bargain: Oblivion
- This affix is just orbs that need to be soaked or they give the mobs stacking damage reduction. Plan ahead so that you don't get caught looking at these instead of a boss or trash mechanic.
- Xal'atath's Bargain: Devour
- This is a healing absorb that gets applied to the player. This can be countered by Exhilaration or Fortitude of the Bear.
Stat Priority
Understand your secondary stat priority and the tertiary stats needed for optimal performance during Mythic+ dungeons as a Beast Mastery Hunter. For more detailed information, visit the Stats and Attributes guide.
Higher Item level items are better in most scenarios. For an accurate representation of what item to equip you should use Simcraft! A static "Stat Priority" is just a starting point and can easily shift depending on your individual gear.
All secondary stats are affected by diminishing returns. Click here to learn more!
Tertiary
- Avoidance - Great stat to reduce the damage intake of "Area of Effect" abilities.
- Leech - Provides additional healing through damage dealing. The damage of your pets does not heal you thus Leech is an awful tertiary for you since most of your damage is coming from your pets.
- Speed - Niche tertiary that can be very useful and has been proven useful in the past. Makes playing certain mechanics a lot easier.

Trinkets
Below you can find active and passive alternatives to our recommended trinkets. Do note that some trinkets are better than others depending on the mythic+ dungeon.
Active Trinket alternatives
- Mad Queen's Mandate
- This is the best on-use raid option. The crit it gives is already very good for Single-Target and the on-use effect can crit for upwards of 12-13 million.
- Treacherous Transmitter
- Requires you to meet certain requirements before giving you a very large amount of main stat. Some examples so far are jump 3 times or find an orb on the floor.
- Ovi'nax's Mercurial Egg
- A worse option then the rest simply because it has no main stat baseline and you won't have the main stat it gives reliably while it stacks.
Passive Trinket alternatives
- Empowering Crystal of Anub'ikkaj
- Large amount of a random secondary.
- Dead-Eye Spyglass
- As long as you hit the target this proc's on it's very strong.
- Bottled Flayedwing Toxin
- Passive effect that gives you an average amount of overall damage.
Embellishments
- x1 Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension and Writhing Armor Banding
- This combo gives you 1600 of a random secondary stat once fully ramped and is by the best DPS option.
or
- 2x Dawnthread Lining
- It is a good choice if you have over 80% health most of the time and during your cooldowns.
- The optimal slots to craft on are Wrists, Waist or Boots depending on your available gear.
Remaining Sparks
- Crafted items are 636 item level and regular items are 639 on max item level therefore it's not beneficial to equip crafted items outside of your 2x embellishments unless you don't have access to other high item level gear on that slot.
Simcraft

Races
For min-maxing a Beast Mastery Hunter in Mythic+, different racial traits can provide a tremendous benefit to your character. If this is not your top goal, picking a race that fits your style works just as well.
- Stoneform -- Dwarf
- One of the most potent racials in Mythic+ currently and historically.
- Dispels Magic and Bleed debuffs.
- Shadowmeld -- Night Elf
- Also one of the most potent racials in Mythic+ historically.
- Use-cases
- Run past basically any mob and then cast Shadowmeld to make them reset. Even works on mobs that have stealth detection if you get enough distance before you Shadowmeld.
- Blood Fury -- Orc
- Strong racial for damage both because of Command and Blood Fury which lines up witCall of the Wild.
- 20% reduced Stun duration on you which can be useful in some Mythic+ dungeons.
- Escape Artist -- Gnome
- Free yourself from roots.
- Rocket Jump -- Goblin
- Do a small jump in the direction your character is facing.
- While you're in the Rocket Jump animation you are placed on a global cooldown until your character lands.
- Berserking -- Troll
- Strong DPS racial but lines up poorly with Call of the Wild.
- Reduce the duration of movement imparing effects by 20%.
