Nimis Explained
This Build revolves around Nimis and should never be played without it. Nimis has 2 unique properties:
- Projectiles are fired in random directions
- Projectiles return to you at the end of flight
"Projectiles are fired in random directions" is actually an upside on this build, since it transforms both Fireball and Kinetic Blast into Nova Skills, giving you 360° AoE instead of having to aim.
However, the superstar mod of this item is the "Projectiles return to you at the end of flight". To understand why, we need to explain Fireball's mechanics.
Fireball Mechanics
Fireball is both a Projectile and AoE Skill. It first shoots out a Projectile, which then explodes into an AoE once it connects with an enemy or terrain. You can increase your projectile count with Endless Munitions and Greater Multiple Projectiles Support, but you can't hit an enemy more than once with the same cast, rendering these extra projectiles useless against bosses.
However, AoE does not have this restriction, allowing us to abuse Nimis. So what happens against bosses is the following:
- The Fireball projectiles trigger and randomly fly outwards.
- The projectiles reach their end destination or collide with terrain and come back to you due to Nimis.
- The projectiles end their travel, exploding on top of you.
- if you stand near a boss, that results in all the returning AoE Fireballs to overlap on the same target (Shotgunning).
This results in crazy clear and boss potential at the same time.
Projectile Speed
Projectile Speed does not increase the travel distance of the projectiles but it makes the their travel time faster. This results in less waiting time for your Fireballs to return against bosses and makes mapping more responsive and fast-paced. You want to get increased Projectile Speed on your Wand, as well as Anomalous Blood and Sand paired with a Level 4 Anomalous Enhance Support to increase its quality.
If Projectiles seem to not come back to you correctly, play around with the amount of projectile speed you have, there can be weird bugs sometimes, resulting in less damage than advertised!
Cast on Critical Strike Explained
Whenever your Kinetic Blast crits while supported by Cast On Critical Strike Support, you trigger a supported spell skill, in our case Fireball.
CoC has an internal cooldown of 0.15s, which we reduce to 0.10s with increased cooldown recovery rate.
Why is this so strong over just casting our Fireball manually though?
- Fireball is a very slow skill to cast, with an innate cast time of 0.75s.
- The cooldown of CoC overrides this cast time, reducing it from 0.75s to 0.15s.
- Attack Speed is a lot easier to get than Cast Speed, giving us better scaling options
So basically, we are a caster that uses Attack Speed instead of Cast Speed. This means that our Wand of choice is different to most casters, since you want local weapon stats like increased Attack Speed and increased Critical Strike Chance (NOT increased Critical Strike Chance for Spells) on top of your usual caster mods.
CoC Cooldown Breakpoints
Reducing the cooldown of Cast On Critical Strike Support from 0.15s to 0.1s results in 50% more projectiles triggered per second. This means 50% more damage overall as well as better screen coverage.
However, because of server tick rate, certain amounts of cooldown reduction result in no benefit, you have to hit exact breakpoints to actually enhance your CoC. These are the breakpoints of CoC that you have to reach in order to actually benefit from it:
- 14% cooldown recovery rate or higher results in a 0.132s cooldown
- 52% cooldown recovery rate or higher results in a 0.099s cooldown
Everything inbetween doesn't increase your damage in any shape or form, for example if you had 51% cooldown recovery rate, you'd have the same damage as if you had 14%.
Sources of Cooldown Recovery:
- Awakened Cast On Critical Strike Support gives you cooldown recovery rate per level. You can get it up to Lvl10, at which point you get 37% increased cooldown recovery rate. To reach Lvl10, you need a corrupted Lvl6 Awakened Cast On Critical Strike Support, +3 from the Critical Mastery and then an additional +1 to level of socketed Gems from a Body Armour Corruption.
- As a mod or craft from a Belt. The mod can give up to 20%, the crafted mod 12% increased Cooldown Recovery rate.
- As a mod from Boots. The mod can give up to 20%.
Leadership's Price
Leadership's Price is the best in slot amulet and should never be replaced. Lets break it down:
- While your two highest Attributes are equal
- You gain Scorching Conflux, Brittle Conflux and Sapping Conflux
First up, in order for this amulet to work, your two highest Attributes have to be equal. In this case, that is Dexterity and Intelligence, which are both 276 in my case (They will be different for you). The amount does not matter however, just that they are equal. The build performs extremely poorly if this is not respected.
Then lets talk about the upside of the amulet. Brittle, Sap and Scorch are alt-ailments corresponding to Cold, Lightning and Fire. These ailments have the following effect:
- Brittle increases your base critical strike chance by up to +6%
- Sap decreases the damage taken from an enemy by up to 20%
- Scorch decreases enemy elemental resistances by up to 30%
The reason Leadership's Price is so strong however, is that you get "conflux". While you have conflux, ANY damage type has 100% chance to apply Brittle, Sap and Scorch, whereas normally only Cold/Lightning/Fire hits would allow for individual ailments. This results in you getting all 3 ailments at once, bringing your build to the next level.
Pantheon & Bandits
Bandits: Kill all |
For information about acquisition, alternatives and upgrading check out our Pantheon Guide!
Arakaali is your Major Pantheon. It provides additional damage reduction against Damage over Time and better Life Recovery.
Abberath is your Minor Pantheon. It offers substantial Ignite Protection and Immunity to Burning Ground.
Mapping
While Mapping, all you have to do is attack with your Kinetic Blast to trigger Fireball and exploding the screen. Use Shield Charge to get around and well... that's all, the build is extremely comfortable to play!
Map Modifiers to Avoid
The following modifiers are to be avoided if possible:
- Monsters reflect #% of Elemental Damage
- Cannot Regenerate Life, Mana or Energy Shield
- - #% maximum Player Resistances
Bossing
Against Bosses, debuff them with Flammability, then attack with Kinetic Blast to trigger Fireballs. Once the projectiles return, you need to be next to the boss, so the exploded AoEs can shotgun onto it. There is a short delay to your damage before the first Fireballs come back, so make sure to invest into some increased Projectile Speed to make this a bit smoother.
Farming Strategies
As a mapping focused character you should prioritize the mechanics listed below, depending on the level of content your character is currently capable of completing.
