Mercenaries of Trarthus Branch Update

Last Updated:June 13, 2025

On June 13th, the new Mercenaries of Trarthus league launches alongside the Secrets of the Atlas Expansion. This means new league starters for Mercenaries of Trarthus, new tools including our PoEPlanner and much more as part of Maxroll's 3.26 branch update.

Mercenaries of Trarthus

In the Mercenaries of Trathus Challenge League players encounter one special Mercenary per zone, each with their own personalities, different skills, items and builds. You may also find "Infamous" Mercenaries, which are far less common but carry far better items. Mercenaries have a lot of interesting buildcraft implications that we look forward to exploring more after the league launches. Learn everything about Mercenaries here.

Build Guides

Here are all of the new league starters we're adding for the 3.26 Mercenaries of Trarthus and Secrets of the Atlas update.

New League Starters

Picking a build can be one of the hardest parts of a new league in Path of Exile; it's often overwhelming, so our guides walk you through the leveling process and gearing using Milestones! For Mercenaries of Trarthus, we've added several new options.

Volcanic Fissure of Snaking Berserker & Slayer

The Volcanic Fissure of Snaking Berserker is a fast, tanky and all around very powerful Leaguestarter. It uses Warcries to empower fiery slams that chase enemies down, leaving molten fissures in its wake. Massive explosive eruptions occur when the fissures contact enemies dealing huge bursts of Fire damage. This build is capable of going from the Campaign all the way to beating the pinnacle endgame bosses and taking on the most difficult maps the Atlas of Worlds has to offer.

The Volcanic Fissure of Snaking Slayer sends out fissures ending in big fiery explosions that seek new targets up to 3 times.

On top of good damage, you have generous defensive options. Slayer has continuous leech effects, which let you ignore most damage over time and provide a consistent source of healing. Plus Slayer is well-positioned to access Armor and maximum Resistances, creating a well-rounded defensive package.

Earthquake Gladiator

Are you looking for a very tanky build that deals enough damage to defeat any boss and clears maps using one of the most fun mechanics in the game: Bleed Explosions? Then the Earthquake Gladiator is perfect for you!

In maps, you just Shield Charge around and attack monsters to make them explode. And while bossing you apply a strong bleed and dodge when you need to, with no worries about damage uptime.

The low starting budget of this build makes it perfect for league starting either in a trade league or SSF. The tankyness makes it one of the best builds for Hardcore as well.

Rolling Magma Mine Saboteur

If you're looking for a build that is easy to set up and play, while having great scaling, look no further than the Rolling Magma Mines Saboteur! This build uses the newly added Shrapnel Specialist node to cause an extreme amount of overlapping Rolling Magma balls.

This build excels at mapping fast, with Automation Detonate Mines automatically targeting and obliterating the screen, all you have to do is right click!

While it obliterates enemies, it also obliterates your graphics card with fireballs everywhere. Some people may find this unappealing, while others may love the chaos.

Glacial Cascade Elementalist

The Glacial Cascade Elementalist makes use of the strength of Golems and combines that with the power of Physical damage scaling. With its multiple defensive layers, life recovery and strong defenses from an early stage of the game, you are blasting the endgame in no time.

This build achieves massive chills and freezes to allow you to safely navigate boss fights and maps alike, while providing crunchy cold explosions that clear your screen. With mostly easy to find rare gear, this build can get you four Voidstones without expensive unique items.

Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor

This Tornado of Elemental Turbulence Inquisitor is fantastic for leaguestart! Multiple defensive layers and a powerful ascendancy make it feel good through the campaign all the way to pinnacle bosses.

The Tornado of Elemental Turbulence seeks out enemies with no targeting required, but is limited to 3 onscreen at the same time. This makes mapping feel relaxed and not button-heavy at all.

Designed for a fresh league, it uses only one optional unique item during the campaign, but becomes viable for the majority of pinnacle content once geared.

Poeplanner Import Poeimg 1 900 X 67

Getting started is easy; you can either select your ascendancy on the left to begin making a planner from scratch or link your Path of Exile account to import a character directly using the large blue button on the right. The gear on the right side is also where you go to save a profile.

Poeplanner Features With Legend Poeimg 2 741 X 506

The PoEPlanner supports a lot of modules, but you don't need to use all of them. If you leave a section blank, it won't be visible when people browse the build. The exception here is required sections like passives, skills, or gear; don't leave these blank!

  1. This is your passive tree; you can set your ascendancy nodes and even create variants. Add Jewels to your tree by left-clicking on the socket.
    • Click the box in the top right to expand.
  2. Give the build a rating, red = bad, green = good.
  3. Write notes about your build. You can use this section to give people tips or explain the nuances of gearing and playing the build.
  4. What is the build good at? Where does it struggle?
  5. Include all of the skills and supports you are using. If you want to show build progression, you can do so by creating additional steps.
  6. Explain the order in which people should use their skills for optimal DPS.
  7. Select a major and minor Pantheon.
  1. Select equipment set(s) here. The PoEPlanner supports multiple equipment sets (created via the edit button on the top right) and stat weights for each set.
  2. What bandit should players use, or is the plan to kill them all?
  3. Link a Lootfilter, or if you want to go above and beyond, link multiple Loot Filters.
  4. Like with the Passive Tree, the Atlas Passive Tree supports multiple variants,
  5. The build's author (hey, that's you!)
  6. Link a build Showcase on Youtube, best practices include clear explanations of the mechanics and showing gameplay.
  7. If there's a related build, link the relevant planner here.
  8. Changed the build? Update everyone with a changelog entry.
