The Yellow-Robed Squire leads you on a long quest ending in an epic battle against Fuban. This quest line rewards you with the Wind Tamer Vessel, which dispels the sandstorms summoned by the Yellow Wind Sage, giving you a significant advantage in his fight.

Preparation

  • At the start of the quest you need a Sobering Stone to rouse the Yellow-Robed Squire. You can find one by breaking pots in the village at Yellow Wind Formation or purchase it from the Man-in-Stone after completing his quest.
  • You also need a Jade Lotus Root. These grow in water and should be easy to find.
  • Finally, to complete the quest you need the Arhat Gold Piece obtained by defeating the First Rat Prince during the Prince of the Flowing Sands encounter.

Yellow Robed Squire

To begin the Yellow-Robed Squire's quest, head to the Rockcrest Flat Shrine in the Fright Cliffs region. Head left from the shrine then continue through the gap guarded by the Spearbone. After passing through the rocks, you enter a large open room with the Yellow-Robed Squire resting near the center.

This is the Yellow-Robed Squire's first location.

If you speak to him, he complains about being too drunk and requests a Sobering Stone. After you provide this to him he tells you he's off to the Crouching Tiger Temple to find something to eat. You can meet him there using the Temple Entrance Shrine.

Travel to the Crouching Tiger Temple to find him again.

He is unhappy with the food on offer, as it turns out half-rotten Rat Guai is not too appealing (who would have guessed?) So he requests a Jade Lotus after you present this to him he's satisfied and leaves you with a cryptic message about a gold piece. To find him again, return to his original location after obtaining the Arhat Gold Piece. Rest up before returning, as when you do he attacks you.

Boss Tips

The sand makes it difficult to see his moves.
  • The Yellow-Robed Squire veils many of his attacks with sand. This makes it difficult to read his exact moves.
  • Luckily, he doesn't have a lot of health.
  • Using your Spirit into a Transformation spell followed by A Pluck of Many and Immobilize should be plenty to burn down his health.
  • After beating him, follow the Yellow-Robed Squire through the door to continue the quest.

"Tiger Vanguard"

Shortly after entering the Kingdom of Sahali, you encounter the "Tiger Vanguard." This fight is very similar to the boss of the Crouching Tiger Temple, Tiger Vanguard, but ends up being much easier as the boss has less health. However, he still does considerable damage so focus on avoiding his attacks!

Avoid his Attacks.
Avoid his Attacks.
  • The "Tiger Vanguard" rushes towards you swiping at you with his claws then finishing up with his blade. Dodge left and right to avoid damage, if you time things correctly you have a good window of opportunity to damage the boss here.
  • This version of the "Tiger Vanguard" has a faster aerial attack in comparison to the Tiger Vanguard, but the landing still leaves him momentarily vulnerable.
  • While the boss is quite aggressive and uses his agility to move around the battlefield unpredictably, he has low health. Use your Spirit, Transformation, and other Spells to quickly burn through his health while staying close and dodging to avoid damage.
  • After defeating him, rest at the Shrine to restore your resources.

Fuban

You team up with the Yellow Wind Sage to take on the gigantic beetle Guai, Fuban. So long as Fuban has the Wind Tamer Vessel, the Yellow Wind Sage isn't going to be much help, so you need to handle the first third of the fight on your own. Fuban is heavily armored, with most of his body being impervious to damage. Attack his exposed arms!

Boss Tips

  • Fuban swipes at you with his arms and slams his head down in an attempt to crush the Destined One. Position yourself on the outside, rather than between his arms to give yourself the best chance to see the attack and avoid damage. If you end up behind the boss, don't waste your time attacking because you can't damage him from this angle.
  • When Fuban submerges under the sand he's going to use an ambush or impale you using his horn. Watch his movements and dodge as he gets close, or if he leaps out of the sand dodge right before he crashes down.
  • At 66% Health, Fuban does a transition where he repeatedly dives and either attempts to impale the Destined One from below or jumps to use a crushing slam. Avoid each and wait out the phase. After you do the Yellow Wind Sage uses the drums to temporarily stun Fuban, giving you an opportunity to grab the Wind Tamer Vessel.
  • After this, the Yellow Wind Sage joins you in combat, he is a powerful ally and makes the remaining portion of the fight much easier. Focus on dodging and keeping yourself alive, the Yellow Wind Sage does plenty of damage.
