The Man-in-Stone is located near the Squall Hideout Shrine in the Fright Cliffs. Completing his quest line gives you the Azure Dust Transformation Spell. Afterward, he becomes a vendor and you can purchase several valuable items including a Sobering Stone needed to complete the Yellow Robed Squire's Quest. Because of his proximity to Shigandang's quest, you can easily complete both of these at once.
Talk to Man-in-Stone
Starting from the Squall Hideout Shrine, follow the dry riverbed to reach the Man-in-Stone. Speak to him to begin the quest. After speaking to him, you need to find and defeat the Mother of Stones.
Mother of Stones
- Travel to the Rockcrest Flat Shrine.
- Enter the cave and immediately turn right.
- Continue up the path until you find the large room with the Mother of Stones.
- This is right near the sixth Buddha Eye for Shigandang's Quest.
- Defeat her to obtain the Stone Essence.
Boss Tips
The Mother of Stones herself doesn't attack, but as her health gets lower she activates more smaller enemies from around the room. Nothing is stopping you from just focusing on her but if you do be careful that the adds don't overwhelm you. The safest way to complete the encounter is to defeat the Rock Guai as she summons them, then burst her down with A Pluck of Many plus your Transformation once she gets low.
Return to Man-in-Stone
Now that you have the Stone Essence, rest at the Shrine then return to the Man-in-Stone. When you deliver the item to him he takes it for himself and insults you. Now you could just leave at this point, but that's not what Wukong would want you to do. So it's time to teach this Man a lesson in proper manners!
- Despite the trash talk, this is an extremely easy encounter.
- When you win, he rewards you with the Azure Dust Transformation, allowing you to become a powerful Rock Guai.
- After a short time, he becomes a vendor and sells a variety of useful items.
