Wylder Character Guide
Last Updated:May 30, 2025|Changelog
Wylder is Elden Ring Nightreign's Jack of all Trades. His balanced stats makes him proficient at using a wide variety of weapons, as well as the mobility to stay close in the fight. This Wylder character guide gives you all you need to know to jump into the game and how to use his wide variety of tools to take the Nightlords out!
Relics
As Wylder excels most in a close range environment, use relics that give increased vigor and endurance. Additionally, Wylder's Ultimate Art is useful for many situations and deals a ton of damage, so getting it off cooldown is beneficial. Look for relics with effects such as "Ultimate art gauge +2". For your final Relic slot, use a defensive Relic based on which Nightlord is selected. For a more in-depth explanation on how Relics work, check out our Relic and Relic Rites Guide!
Talismans
Teardrop Scarabs can be found throughout Limveld and always drop a talisman when killed. Wylder's all-around playstyle allows for a wide variety of useful talismans. However, any talisman that increases Wylder's overall health or stamina makes a huge difference in ensuring your survival. Erdtree's Favor is the best talisman that benefits both Health and Stamina.
Weapons
Given the balanced scaling stats of Wylder, Weapons that scale with multiple stats are ideal. Colossal Swords scale well with Strength and Dexterity, making it the best option for the highest damage output. Of these swords, the Grafted Blade Greatsword is the best. If you are not lucky enough to find the legendary, however, the Godslayer's Greatsword and Royal Greatsword are a close second.
Great bows
Greatbows scale well with strength, which makes them a great option if you want more of a ranged playstyle. However, they take a long time to draw, thus causing you to be locked into the animation for an extended period of time. These animations cannot be dodge rolled out of.
Strength Weapons
Greataxes, Great Hammers, and other Colossal Weapons all scale equally with strength and can be used effectively until you find a colossal sword. The only difference on the strength weapons is the move set and their respective Ash of Wars.
Dexterity Weapons
Wylder has less scaling with Dexterity. However, given he also has Arcane scaling, look for Katanas, Rapiers or daggers with the Bleed or Frostbite Status Aliment. These Aliments inflict large bursts of damage. However, with Wylder's lower scaling in Dexterity, these weapons deal less damage overall than any Colossal Sword.
Weapons Passive Traits
All equipment found has a passive effect, most of which are active regardless of whether the item is equipped or not. Colossal swords are best used with two hands. Look for Weapon Traits that increase damage while Two-Handing. There are only six equipment slots, so use them wisely. If a passive effect has this hand symbol, that means it is only active while you are using the weapon.

Passive Character Traits
Also known as traits. These are selectable rewards when opening the caches you get when defeating greater foes. They provide your character with upgrades for the current run. One of these traits gives the player a boost to their maximum health pool. With Wylder's passive reviving him with a portion of his maximum heal once per life, any extra health is even more impactful. Other passives increase damage types and should be used to take advantage of any weakness a Nightlord has.
Playstyle
There are numerous ways to play Wylder. However, he is primarily a melee character. His Character Skill Claw Shot gives him the mobility to close the gap on bosses or bring smaller enemies to him. This makes a primarily melee playstyle feel fast paced, and makes Wylder a great choice for new players to the game.
Abilities
Wylder's passive Sixth Sense allows him to cheat death a single time. This passive resets upon death, or by walking close to a site of grace. This allows for more aggressive damage trades, or to have a safety net just in case you bit off more than you could chew. His Character Skill is Claw Shot. It allows Wylder to close the gap on enemies by grappling to them; or for smaller foes, grappling them to you. Lastly, Wylder's Ultimate art is called Onslaught Stake, an incredibly powerful single attack that also deals a large amount of Stance Break on anything beefy enough to survive. Charging this Ultimate Art fully increases its area and damage, as well as removing the knockback effect on Wylder.

Wylder's Passive doesn't seem to work upon dying to grab attacks or the Death Aliment.
Summary
Wylder has an easy-to-use, all-around, jack-of-all-trades playstyle. This makes him a great starter character to jump into Nightreign with. Wylder is great at getting in close and dishing out great damage, while giving a safety net to fall back on if he takes too much damage. In addition, he gives your team those much-needed Stance Breaks with his Ultimate Art.
