Shifting Earth Events
Last Updated:May 30, 2025|Changelog
Changes occur within Limveld as you defeat Nightlords. These special events are known as Shifting Earth, which transform the landscape and offer unique rewards. Rewards include the ability to upgrade a weapon to Legendary or a powerful blessing that adds damage and defense. You unlock your first Shifting Earth event by beating Gladius, Beast of the Night, and then you unlock a new event for every 2 new Nightlords defeated.
On the second day, a Shifting Earth event is always within the circle after it closes once. This gives you a good opportunity to get some powerful buffs and resources before confronting the Nightlord.
The Crater
A gigantic fissure opens in the earth, belching plumes of flame. Descend into the crater's deepest regions to interact with an ancient forge. On your way down, keep an eye out for Fire Monks, Flame Chariots, and fiery bosses. You can use your underground map to navigate the zone (D-Pad up/down with the map open).

Descend Into the Crater
Begin your descent by jumping down and following the outer rim of the crater. At first, you encounter Fire Monks and their accompanying Thorn Sorcerers. Look for the Fire Prelates (the larger monks with a burning helmet), as these drop additional rewards. As you progress through, you should reach a golden fog wall with a trio of bosses. Defeat them to journey deeper into the area.

In the next portion, you encounter Fire Chariots and Fingercreepers. These foes can take a while to dispatch, so you should run past them and turn left towards the Grace. From the area pictured below, continue jumping down and moving to the right, back towards the central altar.

Magma Wyrm
At the bottom of the Crater is a forge, guarded by the zone's Magma Wyrm boss. Here are a few tips and tricks for beating him:
- The Magma Wyrm's head is his weak spot. This is a great opportunity for characters with ranged attacks to do extra damage!
- This is also where you go for a critical hit when the boss is staggered, look for the golden glow around his eye.
- If you're standing in front of the boss, be careful of his magma attacks, which leave puddles that tick for high fire damage and impede your movement.
- When behind the boss, watch out for his tail swipe; this does massive damage and can instantly KO squishy Nightfarers.
- The boss has a charge attack where he runs around, leaving dangerous pools of magma. The safest thing to do is run away and wait for him to stop moving or use ranged attacks to kite him out of the pools.

Claim the Forge's Power
After you defeat the boss, each player in the party can interact with the forge to enhance a weapon, raising its rarity to Legendary!

Mountaintop
An icy mountain appears, its peak wreathed in a storm. Brave the storm to obtain a powerful blessing that halves Frostbite damage and buildup, then gives a damage boost when Frostbite triggers nearby. Follow this path and use the Slipstreams to reach the peak and claim your blessing.
There are many ways to get to the top. As you progress, you may need to run past a dangerous Dragon boss, pass through a storm that inflicts Frostbite, or traverse a chain across the Chasm. Here are some examples:
- Path 1 - This takes you through the center canyon past the Ice Troll doing battle with a Dragon. You need to jump up the back wall to reach the peak.
- Path 2 - The longest route, and also the easiest, as you skip most of the encounters. Run past the dragon, shrouded in a storm, and cross the chains to reach your goal.
- Path 3 - It's a bit harder to get up the right side of the mountain, but this is the safest and most direct path.

As you explore, there are a variety of enemies to fight, such as a dragon doing battle with an Ice Troll, a pair of Ice Trolls, and various icy foes, including Albinauric Archers and Ice Monks. The larger encounters yield rewards, but the smaller ones can easily be farmed for runes.

The Favor of the Mountaintop is particularly effective when taking on the Fissure in the Fog encounter. Many of his attacks inflict Frostbite buildup, and having the Mountaintop buff makes it much easier to survive his attacks.
Optional Dragon Boss
A dragon sits at the peak, surrounded by an icy storm that constantly inflicts Frostbite on your entire party. This encounter is extremely dangerous! Obtain the Mountaintop's blessing before you brave the fight.

Rotted Woods
The Rotted Woods appear in the southeastern portion of the map. Within most of this area, you suffer continual Scarlet Rot buildup and need to alleviate this using the plants scattered around the zone. But it's well worth doing this as there is a powerful blessing to be claimed and several rewarding bosses to defeat along the way.

Look for these plants scattered around the area. They remove Scarlet Rot and clear any buildup. You can manage the DoT (damage over time) with health recovery effects if you need to, but it's much easier to clear the debuff or prevent it from being applied.

Power of the Scarlet Rot
You need to complete a short puzzle sequence to claim the area's buff. First, head to the Fort marked on your map. This area is filled with Godrick soldiers, making it trivial to clear. What you're looking for is the intelligence table on the top floor. This reveals the blessing's location, adding a new marker to your map. From there, head to the marker and claim your buff.
The Blessing is often found at the top of a twisted tree, above the forest's surface.

- The Favor of the Rotted Woods provides a lot of health, making it beneficial even against bosses that do not inflict Scarlet Rot.
- Along the way, keep an eye out for weapons that inflict Scarlet Rot on enemies; this DoT deals significant damage!
Additional Bosses
A plethora of Field Bosses spawn in the Rotted Woods, these encounters are challenging but highly rewarding. After you claim the blessing, spend some time taking out the bosses. You can encounter Magma Wyrms, Erdtree Avatars, Carian Knights, Bell Bearing Hunters, and more!

Noklateo, the Shrouded City
Noklateo is a massive city teeming with enemies to fight. As you explore, keep an eye out for enemies inflicting Deathblight, which instantly kills your Nightfarer when the bar fills. There's a lot of ground to cover here, so you need to be efficient with your time. Watch out for the Malformed Star, constantly firing projectiles at you in the first courtyard.

As you progress through the city, keep an eye out for additional bosses like Black Knife Assassins and Dragonkin Soldiers. You can defeat these foes for their rewards, or skip them if you're pressed for time.
Weapon Duplication
Within the Noklateo shifting earth event, there is a special altar. When you interact with this, you can duplicate a weapon. This is a great way to get a second copy of your favorite legendary to power stance, or to duplicate a weapon with an exceptional passive.

Boss and Power
Finally, within the main room of the cathedral lies one last challenge, Astel. This boss wields the power of gravity and has a variety of attacks.

- Watch out for frequent tail swipes.
- Sometimes, the tail swipes leave a trail of purple clouds, which explode after a short duration.
- When the boss generates a purple glowing sphere at its mouth, be ready to dodge the beam attack.
- If the air crackles, get away from the boss! It's about to use a gravity attack that hurls Nightfarers around the boss into the air before slamming them into the ground with lethal force.
After you defeat the boss, the golden fog wall opens up, revealing a simple altar. Interact with it to gain the city's gift.
[boss power]

- Nokstella's Power revives you once when you fall in combat, increasing your strength for a short time after.
Skipping Events
You can skip Shifting Earth events by sleeping in the beds at the Roundtable hold. This removes the danger and the unique reward by reverting Limveld to its normal state.

Summary
Shifting Earth events appear as you defeat the Nightlords; each one poses a unique challenge and offers a wealth of rewards in exchange. In particular, the Crater and Rotted Woods are extremely valuable and can easily give you the power needed to overcome your next Nightlord encounter.
- Complete the Crater to transform any weapon into a Legendary item.
- Journey to the Mountaintop and claim a blessing that helps you resist Frostbite.
