Weapons, Armor, and Curios in Black Myth Wukong

Last Updated:September 22, 2024|Changelog

Your Weapon, Armor, and Curios are all crucial parts of your progression in Black Myth Wukong. In the beginning, you have access to a limited number of these but as you progress you have more options. Most of your Weapons and Armor Sets come from materials gained by defeating bosses. Whereas, you find Curios in chests throughout the world or by defeating specific foes.

Weapons

Weapons have an attack rating and often provide Critical Hit Chance. Additionally, they provide unique effects that synergize with a specific Stance or Playstyle. In the early game, your weapon progression is linear with each new weapon being better than the last. But later on, your options open up as you have a variety of weapons with similar power levels. This leaves you a lot more room to pick something that fits your playstyle.

Outstanding Weapons

  • Golden Loong Staff - For a weapon you can get in Chapter 4, this staff offers a ton of raw damage. If you're using Pillar Stance this gets even better as the Loong can shock foes. You need to complete the Secret Loong quest and defeat Yellow Loong to obtain the materials to craft this weapon.
  • Staff of Blazing Karma - You get this by collecting materials on the Cooling Slope in Chapter 5. It offers strong bonuses for the Smash Stance moves. But no matter what Stance you use, having some extra Defense is nice when taking on challenging foes in the latter half of the game.
  • Jingubang - This is Wukong's weapon, its unique effect makes it much easier to use 4 Focus Charged Heavy Attacks. You need to wear this weapon to fully activate the Heaven's Equal set making it a strong choice. You get this by beating the Gold Armored Rhino, Feng-Tailed General, Emerald-Armed Mantis, and Cloudtreading Deer then heading to Water Curtain Cave to claim the staff.
  • Tri-Point Double-Edged Spear - A powerful weapon that enhances the Thrust Stance varied combo by summoning a storm of swords whenever you use it. You get this weapon by beating Erlang, the Sacred Divinity on Mount Mei. If you're using Thrust Stance this is a great choice, but if you're using Smash or Pillar Stance you're better off with the Jingubang.

New Game+ Weapons

  • Adept Spine-Shooting Fuban Staff - This weapon has an extremely high Critical Hit rating. Combine this with things that trigger when you deal a Critical Hit like the Gilded Radiance armor set. It also works well with Spell Binder, since that grants you a lot more base damage to work with.
  • Dark Iron Staff - An upgraded version of the Staff of Blazing Karma. This unique weapon gives you an attack bonus based on your defense rating. When combined with a high defense set like the Bull King's armor, it provides around 100 additional attack!

Armor Sets

Weapons have attack rating and often provide critical strike chance. After you unlock Zodiac Village, you can upgrade your armor at the Yin Tiger to increase its rarity and base defense. Very often, an armor set forms the core of your "build," and then you select a weapon and Curios which match.

Outstanding Armor Sets

  • Swift Pilgrim - You get this unassuming armor set early in your journey. It provides Sprint bonuses that synergize with Smash Stance. Unfortunately, the set isn't as useful for the other stances because you can't Charge your Heavy Attack while Sprinting to fully take advantage of the 4pc bonus.
    • The Helmet lets you use your Gourd while Sprinting.
    • 2pc bonus: Moderately increases Sprint Speed.
    • 4pc bonus: When Sprinting, each second moderately increases Attack. This effect stacks up to 10 times and will cease upon stopping.
    • Upgrade this set to gain a small amount of Focus while Sprinting.
  • Gilded Radiance - If you have high Critical Hit Chance this set fuels your Spirits and Vessels by providing a large amount of Qi. You can also use this set to build Qi as you defeat enemies throughout the world. You can craft this after defeating Yellowbrow at the end of Chapter 3.
    • Wear the Helmet to gain Focus after successfully hitting an enemy with a Spirit skill, you can use this with a low Qi cost Spirit to generate a lot of Focus.
    • 2pc bonus: Increases your Attack for a short duration after using a Vessel or Spirit.
    • 4pc bonus: Critical Hits and kills grant a small amount of Qi.
  • Outrage - This set provides a potent 2pc bonus which enhances the Pillar Stance Varied Combos. The 4pc bonus is high risk as you take increased damage while it's active. When you're playing Pillar Stance you can combine this with another 2pc set bonus to get a lot of value, or wear the full set and rely on your Heavy Attack to stay out of your enemy's range. You can craft this after beating the Yaksha King.
    • The Helmet further increases your Attack when on low Health.
    • 2pc bonus: Sweeping Gale and Churning Gale deal additional damage.
    • 4pc bonus: Significantly increase damage dealt and damage taken.
  • Heaven's Equal - Wukong's armor set, has a lot of additional stats and the set bonus enhances your Spellcasting. You can combine this with Jingubang to unlock access to the special sage stance.
    • 2pc bonus: After casting a Spell, Moderately increases Critical Hit Chance for a short duration.
    • 4pc bonus: Upon Critical Hit, slightly reduces the cooldown of all Spells.
  • Fun fact, you can also find the Fortune's Favor set in Chapter 6, a hidden version of Wukong's Armor. This set provides minimal bonuses but increases your defense based on how many Relic Perks you have unlocked.

New Game + Armor Sets

  • Unending Resolve - The Bull King's armor set has the highest base defense bonus in the game. You can craft this set starting in Chapter 5, but you need to enter New Game+ to complete it. You don't get enough materials after beating Bishui Beast to craft the full set. It offers powerful defensive bonuses that make it easier to take on the dangerous bosses found at the end of the game including Tenacity which prevents your attacks from being interrupted.
    • Wear the helmet to gain Focus when taking damage.
    • 2pc bonus: Upon taking damage, temporarily moderately increase defense.
    • 4pc bonus: Disables Perfect Dodge but grants Tenacity when Health is below half.

Curios

Last up you have Curios, these give you small bonuses similar to trinkets in other Souls-like titles. There's a lot of different Curios to collect. Some of these are unique, you can only get 1 copy. But with others, you can obtain and wear multiple copies. Select Curios that synergize with your weapon and armor set. You can easily swap these around outside of combat using the pause menu.

Outstanding Curios

There are a lot of Curios that synergize with a specific playstyle so it's harder to define the "best" but here are a few that work well for a wide variety of playstyles.

  • Cat Eye Beads - This grants increased Critical Hit Chance.
  • Tiger Tally - Increases your attack after landing consecutive Light Attacks.
    • You can use the Tiger Tendon Belt if you're good at Seeing Through enemies with your Varied Combos.
  • Amber Prayer Beads - Moderately boosts your Focus point buildup.
  • Beast Buddha - Boosts Critical Hit Damage.
  • Gold Spikeplate - Increases defense and deals a bit of damage when you're hit.
  • Celestial Birthstone Fragment - Your Four Banes ignore enemy resistance, crucial for builds that inflict burn, poison, shock or chill.
  • Golden Carp - Moderately increases your chance of obtaining drops from enemies.
  • Thunderflame Seal - Boosts max Mana, especially good for Spell Binder builds.
