Trial of the Ancestors 3.22

We're about a week from the release of Path of Exile 3.22 Trial of the Ancestors and the Teasers keep rolling in. Today's news includes Anti-Scam quality of life when trading, the new Guardians Blessing Support, and key takeaways from the Patch Notes.

3.22 Patch Notes

The Full Trial of the Ancestors Patch Notes released, including all of the new Atlas Keystones, details (but not numbers) for the new Support Gems, and much more!

New Supports

There are interesting new supports intended to create new build archetypes or enhance existing ones. We've already seen Trauma Support, Spellblade Support, Devour Support and Sadism Support, but it really comes down to the numbers. We're looking forward to cover the builds people make with the new supports in our Meta Report series.

Atlas Passive Keystones

The new Atlas Passive Keystones modify how players interact with league mechanics, this comes along side some atlas changes so expect new farming strategies for 3.22!

Added a new Atlas Keystone Passive, Endless Tide, which grants "Beyond Portals in your Maps cannot spawn Unique Bosses" and "Beyond Portals in your Maps have 50% less Merging Radius".

For anyone who likes juicing their maps to the max, this is a great way to get the most out of your monsters. Normally, Beyond monsters stop spawning after you kill the boss, but with Endless Tide you get to kill them until the last monster falls. For players without the Keystone there was also a slight buff to Tainted Currency drops from Scourge bosses, and new nodes to target Currency, Divination Card or Unique Item drops.

Added a new Atlas Keystone Passive Skill, The Seventh Gate, which grants "All possible League Map Crafting Options are Available while six Gateways are Allocated".

This one looks interesting, but what options does it unlock? Other League mechanics, or special options like Monstrous Treasure? This has a significant opportunity cost, but could be very rewarding!

5-Ways Nerfed

There were also significant adjustments to how 5-way Legion encounters work, resulting in a significant nerf to exp for anyone looking to AFK in them. But if you're able to survive in the Uber "Unrelenting" version you'll get some of that exp back. Players estimated it will take 4-5 times longer to get from 68 to 100 using 5-ways exclusively.

Legion Changes

  • The Domain of Timeless Conflict now has a minimum area level of 80. Specific Timeless Emblems and Unrelenting Timeless Emblems no longer provide additional area levels.
  • Additional area levels are now added based on the number of Emblems used. 4 Emblems increases the area level by 1, and 5 Emblems increases it by 2.
  • Each Unrelenting Timeless Emblem increases the area level by 0.5 area level (rounding down). Meaning with 5 emblems the maximum area level is 84.
  • The 20% increased Experience gain for each Timeless Emblem has been removed.
  • Each Unrelenting Timeless Emblems now adds 10% increased Experience Gain (previously 20%), and this is now stated on the item tooltip.
  • Each Timeless Emblem and Unrelenting Timeless Emblem now adds 15% more Monster Life (previously 10%), and now also adds 10% increased Monster Damage.

Guardian Buff

The Guardian Ascendancy got a rework in Trial of the Ancestors, and the Patch Notes reveal buffs to Harmony of Purpose and Unwavering Crusade.

Harmony of Purpose:
"Linked Targets and Allies in your Link Beams have +5% to all Maximum Elemental Resistances"
"Enemies in your Link Beams cannot apply Elemental Ailments"
"Enemies in your Link Beams have -20% to all Elemental Resistances."

Unwavering Crusade:
It now provides a 25% chance to Trigger Level 20 Summon Elemental Relic when you or a nearby Ally Kill an Enemy, or Hit a Rare or Unique Enemy.

Giving enemies -20% to all Elemental Resistances is great for Guardian support builds, and players are now able to summon Elemental Relics on boss fights! There were also a couple updates to Chieftain and we've updated our Trial of the Ancestors overview post to reflect this.

Temporal Chains Nerf

The Temporal Chains Hex is being changed. It now causes effects on Cursed enemies to expire 25% slower, down from 40%. This is roughly a 37% reduction, which sounds like a lot but still leaves Poison builds in a better point than they were before the Curse buffs in 3.20.

New Guardians Blessing Support

The new Guardian's Blessing Support has two potential uses. First, using minions to generate an Aura which affects you, or second using the support to kill a Minion. As a Blessing Support it's mutually exclusive with Divine Blessing Support and Eternal Blessing Support.

For years we've been using Auras to help out our Minions. Now it's time for them to return the favour! Guardian’s Blessing Support supports both a skill that creates Minions and an Aura skill, causing the Aura to have no Mana Reservation and the Minions to take Damage over Time.

Assuming Minions can out-heal the DoT, this opens up a lot of possibilities for support Minion setups. Several Deadeye builds already use an Animate Guardian. Now you'll get Hatred on top of Fortify and Culling Strike from Kingmaker. The balancing mechanic is Minion survivability, which is why you must support a minion which can be damaged.

Anti-Scam Technology

Nothing to see here...

I'm sure most people would be on high alert after inviting "DefinitelyNotAScammer" to their party, as one time I changed the name of one of my dump tabs to "Scams" as a joke and noticed a distinct increase in people who messaged me for an item before changing their mind. But sadly, most scammers aren't this blatant, there are a lot of things to watch out for. Soon, you won't have to worry about people putting up 2 Chaos Orbs in place of 20, or 1 Divine Orb in place of 10 as part of a trade.

  • Remember to hold your Alt key and mouse over currency items before accepting trades!

This applies to Currency items, but GGG hasn't confirmed which ones yet. Right now we have 3 types of currency in Path of Exile: basic currency items including, Chaos Orb, Orb of Scouring, and Orb of Alchemy. Exotic currency items like Lesser Eldritch Ember, Greater Eldritch Ichor or Eldritch Exalted Orb, and League Specific Currency items such as Corroded Fossils and Deafening Essence of Rage. Quality of life improvements are always welcome, but as a best practice always double check your trades before accepting.
