Atlas Questlines Explained

Last Updated:March 26, 2024|Changelog

The Atlas has many passive bonuses to unlock and bosses to complete. Guiding you throughout your Atlas progress are the Atlas Questlines, which you begin in Yellow Maps. Completing these naturally progress you into higher Map Tiers while also introducing you to some of the endgame bosses Path of Exile has to offer.

The Maven Questline

The Maven is one of the Pinnacle Bosses and also one of the hardest boss encounters in the game. Her Influence empowers the map bosses, which were "captured" by The Maven after you defeated them.

After you killed enough bosses, you are invited to the Maven's Crucible.

Here is where The Maven releases all the bosses you caught for her and you fight them in an arena to show her your power.

After successfully doing so multiple times, she asks you to defeat them again one last time to complete the "Maven's Invitation: The Atlas".
First, you need to fill your Maven Progression Bar, which requires you to kill up to 10 different map bosses while having The Maven Beacon enabled on your map device. This completes the quest "The Maven", which triggers the next quest called "The Maven's Game".

In order to progress, you need a The Maven's Writ, which you get by combining 10 Crescent Splinters that you drop from any invitation.
There are Invitations with more than normal map bosses though and they can get incredibly hard!
Find out more about those Invitations here.

Maven 672 X 506

After you open the The Maven's Writ in your map device, it opens the Maven's Crucible again... except this time you are actually facing Maven herself!

This encounter is incredibly hard! Read up on the mechanics of the fight here.
Once you beat The Maven, "The Maven's Game" quest is completed, which unlocks both a Favoured Slot and the Ceremonial Voidstone.

The Searing Exarch Questline

This quest line starts after encountering The Envoy for the first time in Yellow Maps.
To progress the quest further, you need to kill a certain amount of map bosses, so follow the instructions in your quest log closely. Do this until you receive a Polaric Invitation, which is a quest item that opens portals to the Polaric Void. In the Polaric Void, you encounter The Black Star, one of the Eldritch Horror Bosses.

After beating The Black Star, you get the Luminous Astrolabe, which is a quest item that allows you to apply the Searing Exarch Influence on your Map. If you want to know more about this boss encounter, check out our guide here.

Once you beat The Searing Exarch, "The Searing Exarch" quest line is completed. For your troubles, you receive a Favoured Slot and the Omniscient Voidstone.

After the first encounter with the Searing Exarch, you still get Polaric and Incandescent Invitations. However, these are not quest items anymore, but instead drop as tradeable items now. You get them by completing the 14th (Polaric) and 28th (Incandescent) map boss that were influenced by the Searing Exarch Beacon.
