This Legion Farming Guide covers the basics of farming Legion as well as how to maximize your rewards and profitability.

Adding Legion to your map spawns a Timeless Monolith in the area. When activated it spawns a massive army of monsters and chests that initially are frozen in stasis and encased in shells. Breaking enemies out of their shells before the stasis timer ends is the name of the game, any monsters or chests with shells not broken de-spawn along with the timer finishing.

Legion is considered one of the more challenging league mechanics to run efficiently but is also highly regarded as one of the most profitable.

Mechanics

Each Legion Monolith features a number of key mechanics to watch out and also features random elements that can make some more rewarding than others.

Legion Factions - There are 5 different armies you can encounter when completing Legions, each monolith spawns two factions opposing each other. Some factions are rarer and more rewarding than others but are functionally all the same. Each army drops Splinters of their respective faction which can be combined to form a Timeless Emblem the primary reward of Legion. The factions are:

  • Eternal (Common) - Timeless Eternal Emblem
  • Vaal (Common) - Timeless Vaal Emblem
  • Karui (Common) - Timeless Karui Emblem
  • Templar (Uncommon) - Timeless Templar Emblem
  • Maraketh (Rare) - Timeless Maraketh Emblem

Legion Generals - A rare spawn that can occur when activating your monolith, they always spawn at the very sides of each army, directly opposing each other. You can easily tell when one or multiple generals are present as the monolith spawns with purple energy beams pointing at them. Legion generals drop a large amount of Timeless Splinters.

Legion Sergeants - Are special rare monsters that spawn in Legions and frequently drop guaranteed loot of a specific type, you can identify this by the icons hovering above their head (Loot Tiles). Loot tiles come in many variations and there is no way to control them, so taking the good with the bad is required.

Warhoards and Chests - Are special chests that contain Loot Tiles similar to sergeants but also contain guaranteed Timeless Splinters and excellent rewards. Breaking these out of stasis should always be your 2nd priority right after searching for and freeing generals.

Signature Rewards - Legion has numerous rewards from many parts of the game but it's signature rewards are a massive part of what makes it strong. Timeless Splinters drop frequently and can be combined into Timeless Emblems that are always in demand and valuable. Incubators are a special currency that can be applied to gear and after slaying a set amount of monsters will erupt into loot of a specific type. Using incubators effectively is a massive part of Legions profitability.

Choosing Incubators - Selecting profitable Incubators to apply while running your Legion strategy is essential to your earnings. The best Incubators to apply are the following;

  • Cartographer's Incubator
  • Diviner's Incubator (Priority)
  • Foreboding Incubator
  • Geomancer's Incubator
  • Infused Incubator
  • Kalguuran Incubator
  • Ornate Incubator (Priority)
  • Skittering Incubator

How To Run It

The most efficient way to run Legion for the most rewards possible is through intelligent stacking of Scarabs that grant you as many Legions and Legion bonuses as possible per map.

When running Legion, especially in maps with multiple Monoliths present, the sheer amount of loot that drops will slow you down and put you in danger if collected during combat. Fully clear the map first including all Legions and then loot the map after the majority of the monsters have been slain, this saves time and deaths!

Legion is a strategy that is at it's best when you can free both Factions completely from stasis as fast as possible. Such a feat is not easily accomplished by most builds in the game but mechanics such as Domination shrines as well as Delve Sulphite veins with atlas passives allocated can greatly assist with this.

Step 1 - Locate and activate any domination shrines or voltaxic sulphite veins for buffs (If You Are Running Them).

Step 2 - Clear the map without looting, ensuring you focus on fully breaking out the Legion.

Step 3 - Ensure you defeat the boss and then loot the map.

Atlas Passives

Atlas passives are a massive boost to Legion and understanding which ones are worth taking is essential, refer to our review below.

MonumentalGrants 16% chance for an additional Legion, an absolute must have when farming this mechanic.
Chain of CommandAdds 2 additional sergeants and increases their chance at having loot tiles, a must have node for Legion!
Protracted BattleExtends the duration of stasis significantly and lowers the damage required to break them out. This node is optional but makes it substantially easier to complete legions.
EmblematicCauses Timeless Splinters to have a chance to drop as full Emblems, substantially increasing profits. This node is mandatory.
Constant BattleGrants 16% chance for an additional Legion, an absolute must have when farming this mechanic.
War SuppliesAdds additional war hoards to each Legion in your map massively increasing profits, pick this node up!
Face OffIncreases the chance for Legion generals to spawn, substantially increasing profits. This node has no effect while using Legion Scarab of Command.
Logistical SupportIncreases the reward tiles present on sergeants at the cost increasing their life substantially. Allocate this node if you can deal with the difficulty.
Pillaged TreasuresAdds an additional reward to all Legion chests making it a good pick up for all Legion strategies.
Timeless ConflictIs a special keystone that removes the timer from the Legion mechanic but at the cost of limiting the amount of rewards you can break out of stasis. Allocating this keystone will reduce overall profits.

Scaling Loot

Multipliers

Increased Item Quantity - Legions and their loot do not directly scale with increased item quantity but due to the large number of monsters within them it is a great multiplier to your rewards.

Increased Item Rarity - Similar to quantity, rarity does not scale Legions rewards directly but will enhance your normal drops from monsters spawned by legion.

Increased Pack Size - This modifier has no apparent impact on Legion.

Map Tier - Higher map tiers greatly increase the rewards that drop from Legion monsters, warhoards and chests. It also increases the odds of encountering the rarer timeless factions.

Scarabs

Legion Scarab - Are a staple to the Legion farming strategy. Keep in mind you can now use 4 of these in the map device, for guaranteed 4 legions.

Legion Scarab of Officers - An extremely strong scarab when combined with multiple Legion Scarabs. This provides 10 additional rares to every legion, which is a lot of extra loot.

Legion Scarab of Command - Guarantees the spawning of two Legion Generals both of which drop a considerable amount of Legion Splinters. Generally this scarab is not very good, as you would rather have another legion from the Legion Scarab

Legion Scarab of The Sekhema - This scarab guarantees Maraketh, which generally has the highest profit per an emblem. With that said, the value of this scarab will largely depend on the price of the legion emblems. Generally a basic Legion Scarab will provide more value, specially when combined with Legion Scarab of Officers.

Legion Scarab of Eternal Conflict - The most premium legion scarab. This Legion scarab allows you to break all the monsters multiple times, stacking up multiple rewards on a single legion monster. The Legion monsters also get increased health for every time you break, so you'll need a very strong character to fully utilize this scarab.

Kirac Modifier

Maps Contain An Additional Legion - Similar to the additional Legion Scarab Kirac can offer an extra Legion per map for a small Chaos Orb fee in leagues where it is available! Depending on how many scarabs you use, you will encounter 2 to 6 guaranteed legions!

Map Choice

Legion is an incredibly map reliant mechanic. When a Legion Monolith spawns its army in an enclosed space many of the monsters will fail to spawn. To ensure you are getting maximum rewards and able to complete Legions easily you must run them on open layout maps.

Dunes MapA fantastic open layout map which is one of the fastest to run for legion. Dunes also has better than average Legion Monolith placement generally spawning them in large open areas.
Jungle Valley MapA solid open map with very few obstructions and a quick layout. Less ideal than Dunes due to the trees that may obstruct some monster spawns but still fantastic.
Cemetery MapA reasonably open map that is not to slow to run, has some poor Legion Monolith spawn locations resulting in some monster losses but overall a reasonable choice for the mechanic.

Selling Your Loot

Here are the drops you can expect to acquire with this strategy, follow our Bulk Selling guide to learn more about how to sell them or pick up some advanced sales tricks in our dedicated Legion farming builds.

Timeless Emblems

Generic Loot

Filtering

Legion Splinters - As your character becomes faster, hide singular Splinters of low value Emblem types:

  • Timeless Karui Splinter
  • Timeless Eternal Empire Splinter
  • Timeless Vaal Splinter

Only picking up higher stacks of the most valuable Splinters saves a lot of time. In extreme situations players hide stack sizes higher than 1 for the factions above.

Incubators - Hide Incubators that don't sell and you don't want to use yourself. There is little to no demand for lower reward Incubators, so don't hold back.
