Xoph, Dark Embers Boss Guide

Introduction

Xoph is - next to Esh, Tul, Uul-Netol and Chayula - one of the five Breachlords introduced in Patch 2.5.0 Breach League. In order to fight him, you have to open a Xoph's Breachstone (or an empowered variant) in the Map device. This opens portals to the Xoph's Domain, the residence of Xoph, Dark Embers. He also has a chance to spawn outside his Domain during a Map with the Breach League Mechanic active, if the Breach belongs to him.

Breachlord Guides:

Loot Table

In addition to regular loot, Xoph, Dark Embers has the following boss-specific drops:

  • The Formless Flame
  • Xoph's Heart
  • Xoph's Inception
  • Blessing of Xoph
  • The Escape
  • Maven's Invitation: The Hidden

With Blessing of Xoph you can upgrade the boss specific unique items to:

  • The Formless Flame + Blessing of Xoph = The Formless Inferno
  • Xoph's Heart + Blessing of Xoph = Xoph's Blood
  • Xoph's Inception + Blessing of Xoph = Xoph's Nurture

Upgrading Breachstones

Xoph's Breachstone - Upgrade Path

The Blessing of Xoph lets you upgrade Xoph's Breachstone to a certain extent:

  • Xoph's Breachstone + Blessing of Xoph = Xoph's Charged Breachstone
  • Xoph's Charged Breachstone + Blessing of Xoph = Xoph's Enriched Breachstone
  • Xoph's Enriched Breachstone + Blessing of Xoph = Xoph's Pure Breachstone

There is also a Xoph's Flawless Breachstone but in order to obtain it, you have to defeat Esh, Xoph, Tul and Uul-Netol in the Maven's Invitation: The Hidden. All 4 Flawless Breachstones have a chance to drop.

The Chayula's Flawless Breachstone can only be obtained in the Maven's Invitation: The Feared, which is also the hardest Invitation to complete.

Skills Breakdown

Default Attack

Xoph strikes with his hand at close range.

Cleave

Xoph slashes forward at close range, dealing Physical and Fire Damage.

Flame Vortex

Xoph casts a Flame Vortex similar to Blade Vortex that deals Fire Damage.
It has a very high hit frequency and lasts about 7.5 seconds. Upon moving, Xoph leaves a burning ground
that deals Fire Damage over Time.

Upheaval

Xoph jumps in the air and slams the ground, creating a fiery sunder that travels to your location. Based on
his health, the sunder creates a fiery tornado and fork into 2 additional sunders that also create a tornado.
Below 70% of Xoph's life, the sunder forks an additional time on the secondary sunders, creating a total of
7 tornadoes. These fiery tornadoes last for 12 seconds and deal Fire Damage.

Breach Monsters

Xoph summons a Breach onto your position. If you walk into it, it starts releasing Breach Monsters for a
couple of seconds. You want to kill them quickly to restore Flask Charges and keep track of
Xoph's deadly abilities.

Boss Mechanics

When you open a Xoph's Breachstone (or an empowered variant) in your Map Device, portals to the Xoph's Domain appear. Once entered, you find yourself in an empty area with a Breach next to the entrance. In order to start the encounter, you have to walk into the Breach Hand to trigger it. A Timer starts, the Breach opens up and expands, spawning countless Breach Monsters in the process. Every Monster you slay within the Breach adds towards the timer. If you successfully keep up, a Boss portal spawns at the end of the area.

Xoph's Domain - Breach Hand

Once you enter the boss arena, you find Xoph, Dark Embers, in the north. Engage Xoph, but beware of his abilities. Early on, he only uses Lightning Orbs and Orb recall, gaining more abilities as he drops health.

Make sure to check out the Skills Breakdown above to learn more about each of the abilities.

Invitation

Xoph is part of the Maven's Invitation: The Hidden. In order to get him witnessed, you have to open the Breachstone while the Maven is active on your Map Device. Every variant of the Breachstone counts.

Every item of each specific Boss can drop once you complete the Invitation, as well as Crescent Splinter for the The Maven's Writ.

  • Keep moving! The majority of Xoph's abilities can be outmaneuvered.
  • Don't face tank Xoph's Flame Vortex. It's better to kite him and stack the burning ground at the side of the arena.
  • Kill the Breach Monsters that spawn to restore Flask Charges.
  • Based on his health, Xoph creates additional forks on his Upheaval ability. Make sure to move away from the point of impact as quickly as possible to avoid getting grilled.

Summary

  • Xoph is one of the 5 Breachlords and part of the Maven's Invitation: The Hidden.
  • He can be encountered in the Xoph's Breachstone or within a Map, if the Breach League Mechanic is active and the Breach you find belongs to him.
  • After triggering the Breach in the Xoph's Domain, kill as many monsters as fast as possible to keep up with the timer.
  • Once you reach the end, a boss portal spawns that leads you to Xoph, Dark Embers.
  • Xoph's Breachstone can be upgraded with Blessing of Xoph to further increase their rewards and the difficulty.
