The Final Shape

Welcome to the Contraverse Hold Void Warlock build! Charge up and throw literal black holes to pull your enemies in, killing the rank and file foes while weakening more stalwart targets. This iteration of Void Warlock continues to maintain the Void fantasy by making your weapons Volatile and feeding on the energy of defeated foes through Devour.

This Void Warlock build focuses on your Vortex Grenade and its overcharged effectiveness from Chaos Accelerant with Contraverse Hold. Enemies are pulled into the center of the detonation and hits grant significant grenade ability regeneration.

Kills with Void abilities grant Devour, restoring health and grenade energy on every kill while the buff is rolling. Kills with Vortex Grenade specifically gives your Void weapons Volatile. When inflicted on enemy combatants, they take additional damage and explode after a damage threshold is met. Volatile weapons also pierce the shields of Barrier Champions.

WARNING: The Supremacy sniper rifle requires access to the Forsaken DLC Pack to Earn. Microcosm requires The Final Shape DLC to unlock.

Pros
  • Reliable debuff from grenade.
  • Great self-healing from Devour.
  • Damage resist when charging grenades.
  • Kills not needed for grenade ability regen.
Cons
  • Must use Chaos Accelerant aspect.
  • Harder to keep Devour up in a fireteam.

Gameplay Loop

Contraverse Hold Void Warlock is a very straightforward build, the goal is to spam Vortex Grenades whenever possible. Defeating targets with Void abilities grants Devour through one of your chosen aspects, Feed the Void. Keeping this buff active is your number one priority. Devour keeps you alive and provides grenade regeneration for every kill while under its effect.

You want to be sure that you are charging your Vortex Grenades before every throw. If you don't, Contraverse Hold's Exotic perk won't activate and you don't receive the initial return of grenade energy. Pocket Singularity is a secondary measure if Devour falls off before your grenade energy is fully refunded. It's also able to push enemies back if you're in a sticky situation or to need to apply Volatile.

Your super ability, Nova Bomb: Cataclysm, charges incredibly fast with all of the kills secured by your grenade thanks to Ashes to Assets. This ability is effective against bosses or groups of enemies. Be careful throwing this variant of Nova Bomb: Cataclysm, as it can block projectiles from members in your fireteam.

Ability Breakdown

Super

  • Nova Bomb: Cataclysm
    • Using the power of Void Light, you throw out a dying star that detonates on impact. Upon detonation, Void seekers are released which track other nearby enemies.

Abilities

  • Empowering Rift - The healing from Devour is more than enough in most cases. Use this to empower yourself and allies inside of the rift by 20% for 15 seconds.
  • Burst Glide - Your jump ability is up to you, but for the sake of the build we are taking Burst Glide.
  • Pocket Singularity - This is the only Void melee ability for Warlocks. Push enemies away and inflict Volatile.
  • Vortex Grenade - The focus of the Contraverse Hold Void Warlock build. Create a vortex that pulls targets inward and damages enemies caught inside. Vortex Grenade also applies Weaken from the Echo of Undermining fragment.

Aspects

  • Feed the Void - Defeating targets with a Void ability activates Devour. Every kill while under the effects of this buff heals you to and returns grenade ability energy.
  • Chaos Accelerant - Overcharge your Vortex Grenade, increasing extending the duration of the grenade and its area of effect.

You cannot charge your Void grenade abilities without the use of the Chaos Accelerant aspect.

Fragments

  • Echo of Remnants - Linger duration is increased for your Vortex Grenade. This allows for maximum damage output from the ability.
  • Echo of Undermining - Void grenades weaken targets at the cost of Discipline.
  • Echo of Persistence - Increases the maximum duration of Devour at the cost of Recovery.
  • Echo of Instability - Targets defeated with your grenade ability grant Volatile Rounds to your Void weapons, increasing damage and causing explosions after a certain damage threshold is met. These rounds also pierce Barrier Champion's shields.

Gearing

Required Gear and Weapons

Contraverse Hold - While charging grenades, your Warlock is surrounded by a Void shield that provides a 20% damage resistance. Void grenade hits proc the Exotic effect, granting increased base grenade regeneration rate for 1.75 seconds. Vortex Grenades are able to activate this perk twice if targets are damaged by the initial impact of the grenade and the last few ticks of the ability.

How to acquire:

  • Purchase from Xur if available.
  • Decrypting or focusing Exotic engrams at Rahool.
  • Farm the expert lost sector on Arms armor days.
  • Complete the Vex Strike Force Public Event on Neomuna.
  • This Exotic armor piece is not locked behind a DLC.

Stat Priorities

  • Resilience > Recovery > Discipline
  • Resilience is always the most coveted stat when in a PVE environment. Increases your damage resistance and shield capacity. Your goal is 100 Resilience.
  • Recovery governs the cooldown on the Warlocks class ability and decreases the time it takes to regenerate your health and shields.
  • Discipline decreases the cooldown on your grenade ability, allowing it to charge faster if Devour has fallen off.

Artifact Mods

  • Anti-barrier Submachine Gun - This mod gives you 100% uptime on the build's anti-barrier capability when using an SMG.
  • Elemental Siphon - Since you aren't directly using Void Breaches for the build, this mod is mostly for filler. Collect the Breach to restore class ability energy.
  • Press The Advantage - Every time you break an opponent's shield all of your weapons gain increased stability, handling and reload speed.
  • Void Hegemony - Another way to fuel Overshield. Any target you throw your grenade at will be Weakened thanks to Echo of Undermining.
  • Expanding Abyss - Another Weaken exploit, all of your Void weapons do increased damage to any target afflicted by the debuff.
  • Prismatic Transfer - A beneficial mod while in a fireteam, casting Nova Bomb: Cataclysm gives all fireteam members not using a Void Super ability bonus to weapon damage.

Recommend Weapons

  • Kinetic Weapon: The Supremacy - A powerful sniper rifle for use against bosses and majors.
    • The Supremacy sniper rifle requires access to the Forsaken DLC Pack to earn.
  • Energy Weapon: The Recluse - A tried and true primary weapon. Takes advantage of Volatile Rounds from Echo of Instability.
  • Power Weapon: Microcosm - This heavy trace rifle packs a serious punch against ads and bosses and lets you double dip on Kinetic Weapon Surge.

Variants

  • Swap Microcosm for Edge Transit and The Supremacy for Izanagi's Burden. Replace Kinetic Weapon Surge with Void Weapon Surge.
    • These swaps give you a damage set up that takes advantage of Expanding Abyss. Better for smaller damage windows when burst damage is needed. Izanagi's Burden requires the Forsaken DLC Pack to unlock.
  • Swap Feed the Void for Child of the Old Gods. You can also replace a fragment of your choice with Echo of Starvation.
    • Echo of Starvation gives you the ability to activate Devour by picking up an Orb of Power. This opens up an aspect slot if Child of the Old Gods is more useful to you.
  • Feel free to utilize other weapons, as they do not make or break this Contraverse Hold Void Warlock build. Use what works for you!

Summary

Bolster your Warlock's Vortex Grenade to it fullest potential with Contraverse Hold and watch your enemies disintegrate under the power of Void Light. Completely leaning into the Void fantasy with multiple ways to spread Weaken and Volatile. Consume the life force of your enemies with Devour and show them that emptiness is not nothingness!
