4-Player Push META

Introduction

In this article we will talk about the 4-Player Push most effective tactic available (META) to place high on the Leaderboards. It’s possible to clear the current Greater Rift cap of 150 in just a few minutes when fully optimized. Generally, these fast clear times require extreme dedication to fishing in order to get Rank 1. Check our Greater Rift Post for more in-depth mechanics and the current top clears with all the individual character compositions for every Season on our rankings page.

General Strategy

In an effective 4-Player group META, every party member has a defined role with different tasks. Here is an overview of the 4 roles usually played and tasks each role is best at:

PositionBuilds  Task
Trash KillerLoD HotA Barb, LoD Meteor Wizard, Death Nova Necromancer, Spirit Barrage WD, LoD Grim Scythe Necromancer,This position usually requires a build with good Area of Effect (AoE) damage like Death Nova, Spirit Barrage or Energy Twister and huge temporary buffs like Arcane Attunement, Spellsteal, Assimilation etc. The main task is executing the damage rotation properly in order to kill trash monsters (and maybe even Elites) to progress through the Rift.
Rift Guardian KillerRathma Necromancer, Impale Demon Hunter, Firebird Wizard, Corpse Spider WD,The RGK requires a build that revolves around high single-target damage often combined with fast attack speed skills to stack Bane of the Stricken. The main task is to finish the Greater Rift by killing the Rift Guardian. Furthermore, most builds in this category can also help with pulling during the Rift and can finish off individual Elites or high progression monsters.
Support#1zBarb, zNec, zDH, zMonkThe main Support role requires good pull abilities, good overall damage & toughness boost. The main task here is to pull monsters tightly together (Area Damage value) for the Trash Killer, drag Elite packs along, scout the map and keep up damage & toughness buffs.
Support#2zMonk, zNec, zDHThe second Support usually provides even more toughness and damage buffs to the group. The main task here is simple: Keep up all buffs while sticking close to the damage dealer. Sometimes the second Support also helps scout the map and engage enemies.

The overall power level during Season 27 is pretty high. The top clears will blitz through Greater Rift 150 with Area Damage and density scaling focused builds. Many builds and setups can clear the highest difficulty in the game with ease, especially in coordinated groups at higher Paragon Levels.

The Current META (2.7.4) - Trash Killer

Concept
During Season 27 there are 4 strong Trash Killer Builds that will compete for the top leaderboards spots:

  1. Trag'oul's Avatar Death Nova Necromancer
  2. Legacy of Dreams Death Nova Necromancer
  3. Legacy of Dreams Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian
  4. Tal Rasha's Elements Meteor Wizard

The Death Nova Necromancer Build has the highest potential DPS with the recent reworks to Trag'oul's Avatar and Iron Rose. Furthermore they both bring Frailty into the group which makes Conduit Pylons extremely powerful. The Necromancer can destroy Trash that is pulled and controlled by the zBarb with just one hit with the great AoE scaling of Bloodtide Blade. Even Elites can die instantly in very dense Pixelpulls. On top of that, the Necromancer has good toughness, which makes it relatively easy to survive without a zMonk.

Trag'Oul Nova
Trag'oul's Avatar Death Nova Necromancer
LoD Nova
Legacy of Dreams Death Nova Necromancer
LoD HotA
Legacy of Dreams Hammer of the Ancients Barb
Tal Meteor
Tal Rasha's Elements Meteor Wizard

The Legacy of Dreams Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian benefits tremendously from the Sanctified Hammer of the Ancients power that allows him to deal damage in a huge area with powerful shockwaves. Furthermore the new Sanctified Whirlwind played on the zBarb allows for insane pulls while ignoring the monster's crowd control immunity. This provides even more value to Arena Damage and Battle Rage Bloodshed.

The recent Mempo of Twilight change boost the power level of Tal Rasha's Elements Meteor Wizard significantly. The setup is very strong and can decimate Trash and Elite with full powered Star Pacts within second even on the highest tier.

All 4 Trash Killers are supported by a zBarb pulling Elites and grouping monsters together either with Ground Stomp Wrenching Smash or Sanctified Whirlwind. On top of that, the Barb provides massive toughness buffs with Ignore Pain Mob Rule and War Cry. Additional offensive and defensive buffs are provided by the zDH.

The Current META (2.7.4) - Rift Guardian Killer

Concept
During Season 27 groups will add a dedicated Rift Guardian Killer again to decimate single targets.
The Bones of Rathma Army of the Dead Necromancer benefits a lot from the new Sanctified Army of the Dead dead power, roughly doubling its single target damage. On top of that he brings 1 Curse like Frailty, Decrepify or Leech into the group.
The Shadow's Mantle Impale Demon Hunter also gains a lot from Sanctified Strafe killing the Rift Guardian with Strafe and Chemical Burn in around the same time as Rathma, but doesn't provide any significant benefits to the group.
Other decent candidates are Spirit of Arachyr Corpse Spiders Witch Doctor and the Firebird's Finery Magic Missile Wizard.

Gameplay Necromancer
Wait for your team to defeat the first enemies, then summon your Revives. Help them out as much as you can by aggroing monsters from around the area and applying your Curse on everything.
When it's your time to DPS, activate Jesseth Arms with Command Skeletons. Stack up Power Shift and target the biggest targets in a pull after you released Army of the Dead. Coordinate with your team so that they can apply a stun for your Krysbin's Sentence. On bosses, try to dodge incoming attacks to keep up Squirt's Necklace.

Rathma Necromancer
Bones of Rathma Army of the Dead Necromancer
Impale Demon Hunter
The Shadow's Mantle Impale Demon Hunter

Gameplay Demon Hunter
Sanctified Strafe around to proc your Impale, use Grenade to keep up your Focus & Restraint and burst on your Fire Convention of Elements rotation. Tap Impale while holding Strafe. This fires extra knives in between the automatic ticks and increases your DPS.

The Current META (2.7.4) - Supports

Concept
The Trash- and Rift Guardian Killer are supported by a zBarb pulling Elites and grouping monsters together so that the Allies can hit many targets at once. On top of that, the Barb provides massive toughness buffs with Ignore Pain Mob Rule and War Cry.
Additional offensive and defensive buffs are provided by the zDH.

Gameplay zBarb
The standard zBarb play around the Trash Killer's Convention of Elements rotation, aggros and pulls monsters with Ancient Spear Rage Flip and pixes enemies with Ground Stomp Wrenching Smash.
The Sanctified Whirlwind zBarb also syncs his playstyle with the Trash Killer's Convention of Elements but then drags all monsters along using Whirlwind, allowing the Trash Killer to deal insane Arena Damage while ignoring the monster's crowd control immunity.

WW zBarb
Support#1 Sanctified Whirlwind zBarb
zDH
Support#2 zDH

Gameplay zDH
During DPS windows, make sure you apply all your buffs/debuffs properly (Multishot every 3 seconds, spread out Guardian Turret and spam Entangling Shot or Strafe). Try to help out the group in other ways, e.g. breaking walls with Bottomless Potion of Kulle-Aid, taking Wormholes that might spawn in dangerous places, etc. Especially on large pulls, make sure you re-apply Entangling Shot often and early enough (either don't let it time out by continuously attacking while circling around the pull or come back early enough to stack it on all enemies again after going very far).

Conclusion

Overall, the current Season Theme has a big impact on the group Push META. Builds like the LoD HotA Barb or WW zBarb wouldn't be played in groups without their seasonal powers. We can expect the first Greater Rift 150 clears to happen within the first days of the new Season and it should overall be fairly accessibly to clear for many players in the community!

Enjoy Season 27 and good luck on your Leaderboard rank, May RNGesus be with you!
