Path of Exile 2 Currency Meta
Last Updated:December 23, 2024|Changelog
Currency News
Making currency is a primary motivation for many players in the endgame. The currency farming meta in Path of Exile 2 Early Access is currently somewhat limited and endgame strategies rely on powerful Atlas Passive skill nodes. These nodes are unlocked by defeating the hardest challenges in the game: each mechanic's respective boss. However, there are ways to progress towards unlocking these bonuses.
Market Analysis
The Path of Exile 2 market is currently highly volatile. The player base has rapidly shifted from using Exalted Orbs to Divine Orbs as the primary trading currency, likely due to a large portion of the player base reaching the endgame and generating a significant influx of currency. This shift was also accelerated by a substantial increase in Exalted Orb drop rates, causing their value to deflate rather than Divine Orbs significantly inflating. This can be observed by comparing the Exalted Orb's relative price to other currencies, such as Gemcutter's Prism and Armorer's Scrap.
The future of trading currencies in Path of Exile 2 is still unclear. Divine Orbs are considerably rarer than Exalted Orbs and have a consistent sink through item divining. So far Divine Orbs established and maintain a stable price as the standard trading currency in PoE 2.
Currency Guides
Check out our Currency Guide to learn how to maximize your currency gains from maps by employing simple tactics for identifying and selling items you might otherwise overlook. Here's what you could expect to learn:
- Before selling items, you must first acquire them. Loot filters highlight valuable items, saving you time spent sifting through less desirable drops and maximizing your monster-killing efficiency.
- Accurately determine an item's value by price checking it on the Trade Site. This helps you understand which drops are worthwhile. However, avoid compulsively price checking every dropped Rare item.
- List your items for sale by placing them in public premium stash tabs. Items in non-premium tabs cannot be listed.
- Efficient trading involves balancing the time spent accurately pricing items against the potential gains from acquiring and listing more items at less precise prices.
Meta Strategies
Accessing Atlas Passive Skill Points
In Path of Exile 2, achieving maximum farming efficiency requires a significant investment. You unlock points for the Atlas Passive Tree by defeating bosses associated with specific endgame mechanics:
- Defeating each boss grants points to allocate within their respective Atlas Passive Tree.
- As you allocate more points, the encounters with these bosses become progressively more challenging.
- Upon defeating a boss, you receive a book, such as Arbiter's Book of Knowledge I, which grants additional points for the Atlas Passive Tree.
You can access Atlas Passive Skill points by defeating the following Bosses:
- Xesht, The We That Are One (Breach)
- Breachstone
- The King in the Mists (Ritual)
- An Audience with the King
- Kosis, The Revelation (Delirium)
- Simulacrum
- Olroth, Origin of the Fall (Expedition)
- Expedition Logbook
- The Arbiter of Ash
- Faded Crisis Fragment
- Ancient Crisis Fragment
- Weathered Crisis Fragment
Breach
Breach thrives in open maps with builds that have good coverage. Maximizing Breach rewards incentivizes running high-tier maps with high rarity and quantity granted by having dangerous modifiers. This is further compounded by the Atlas Passive Skills. Breach spawns many monsters including dangerous rares that drop lots of currency and Breach Splinters. This creates a challenging loop where you push to maximize Breach rewards while navigating increased map difficulty. If you want to learn more about breach check out this guide.
Spec into these Atlas Passive Skills:
- Frantic Invasion
- Rising Pyre
- Interdimensional Assault
- Crumbling Walls
When farming Breach, you want to find an area with some Lost Towers, where you can place Breach Precursor Tablets. This adds the Breach mechanic to up to 10 maps within the Tower's radius. Ideally, seek open-layout maps like Savanna, Penitentiary, Willow and Creek.
Delirium
The Delirium mechanic's Atlas Passive Skill points are gated behind beating the Simulacrum, arguably one of the most challenging encounters in the game. This increases the barrier to entry to farming Delirium Mirrors as most of their value derives from the Atlas Points. However, Delirium can also be used to enhance map density by applying three Distilled Paranoia to your well rolled maps. This increases the number of rares in your maps by up to 36%. As most of your loot comes from rares, this significantly increases your currency generation, provided you can pair it with other mechanics and efficiently farm maps with the added difficulty.
Spec into these Atlas Passive Skills:
- Get out of my head!
- Would you like to see my face?
- The mirrors… the mirrors!
- Isn't it tempting?
Expedition
The Expedition mechanic allows you to place explosive chains in your maps to reveal monsters and chests, yielding valuable rewards like currency and notably Exotic Coinage and Expedition Logbooks.
Expedition can be farmed both within maps and through Expedition Logbooks. While you can interact with vendors to craft items using Expedition rewards, you can also directly sell Black Scythe Artifact, Broken Circle Artifact, Order Artifact, and Sun Artifact on the market.
Note that your success with expedition entirely hinges on the order in which you place your explosives, as remnants affect each subsequent explosion, increasing the rewards you gain from them if you're being efficient. When placing explosives in Expeditions, prioritize detonating Remnants in the following order:
- Quantity of logbook
- Increased number of rare monsters
- Quantity of items dropped
- Rarity of items dropped
Spec into these Atlas Passive Skills:
- Disturbed Rest
- Detailed Records
- Timed Detonations
- Legendary Battles
When farming Expedition, you want to find an area with some Lost Towers, where you can place Expedition Precursor Tablet. This adds the expedition mechanic to up to 10 maps within the Tower's radius. Any map layout is generally fine for Expedition.
Ritual
Ritual can be quite unpredictable in terms of rewards, but it has the potential for significant gains. The value of An Audience with the King is heavily influenced by the rarity of Ingenuity, which reportedly has a 25% drop rate. This mechanic also offers valuable rewards like Omen of Dextral Annulment, which are extremely rare and expensive.
To avoid missing out on valuable rewards, always ensure you at minimum 700 Tribute remaining after rerolling the reward window. This allows you to defer An Audience with the King and claim it later, preventing situations where you're unable to afford it due to insufficient Tribute.
Spec into these Atlas Passive Skills:
- Ominous Portents
- He Approaches
- Spreading Darkness
- Tempting Offers
When farming Ritual, you want to find an area with some Lost Towers, where you can place Ritual Precursor Tablet. This adds the expedition mechanic to up to 10 maps within the Tower's radius. Any map layout is generally fine for Ritual.
Trial of Chaos
You can access The Trial of Chaos via a Level 75+ Inscribed Ultimatum with "Number of Trials: 10" (10 Rounds). While challenging, The Trial of Chaos offers a more accessible entry point to high-end currency farming compared to Tier 15 maps. It provides a rewarding experience with a lower barrier to entry. In each encounter, you must select 1 of 3 Tribulations, negative modifiers that persist throughout the rest of the run. Make sure to choose the modifiers which least impact your build as many of these will be targeted to specific archetypes.
Whatever you do not select the following downsides or you're likely to have a very bad time:
- Petrification
- Escalating Damage Taken
The Lethal Rare Monsters modifier grants: Rare Monsters have 2 additional Modifiers & 30% increased Rare Monsters. Though this is offered to you as a downside, it's actually a great one to take as it will make Rare monsters drop a lot more loot as long as you can handle the added difficulty. If you can complete the full 10 waves you are guaranteed to profit as you are likely to drop one of these rewards:
- Soul Core of Azcapa
- Soul Core of Zalatl
- Cowardly Fate
- Deadly Fate
- Victorious Fate
