The PoE 2 Currency Guide gives strategies how to earn Exalts and Divine Orbs by Trading, Price Checking, setting up your loot filter, utilizing the Currency Exchange to bulk sell your items and various tips and tricks how to earn money in Path of Exile 2.

Learn how you get the most money possible out of your maps by first learning the basics and then progressing to more complex strategies. There is the very common misconception that Exalted Orb drops are the majority of your income. By employing simple yet effective selling strategies this quickly changes, causing your Currency generation to increase substantially. This Guide covers everything from the basics, to properly dump tabbing, and selling services to other players.

The Basics

Before getting into the details of what mechanics to farm it is important to not skip out on the basics. Every single successful currency strategy has these 3 things in common:

  1. A proper Loot Filter
    • Before you can sell items you have to pick them up from the floor. Loot filters help you pick up items that have value by automatically highlighting them. The less time you spend looking at loot on the floor the more time you have to kill more monsters.
  2. Identifying Value
    • Correctly identify what items are worth selling by Price Checking them on the Trade Site.
    • Causes you to understand what item drops are worthwhile
    • This does NOT mean to compulsively price check every Rare that you drop.
  3. Listing the Item
    • List your items for sale by putting them in public premium Stash Tabs. You cannot list items in non-premium tabs.
    • Balancing the time spent to correctly price items versus simply dropping more items to list at less accurate prices is a major factor in trading efficiently

Loot Filters

Loot filters massively speed up your efficiency. You spend less time figuring out whether the item you dropped is good or not and more time killing monsters to get loot.

The Consistent Sales

The most common mistake among players that feel they are not making enough currency is underestimating the value of the mundane. While dropping raw exalts and high value uniques feels good, the reality is that most of your money comes from the unassuming drops that slowly pile up. It's not flashy or exciting, but extremely effective.

Price Checking Stackables

Identify what's worth selling by price checking your loot at least once. For any stackable currency this is easily done through the use of the Currency Exchange Market. You find the market by talking to Alva in the Ziggurat Refuge or your Hideout and selecting the Currency Exchange option.

Currency Exchange

Using the Auction House may look overwhelming at first but is actually very easy. Click the Plus on the "I Want" side and select Exalted Orb. You do this to check what people are willing to pay for your item. Select the item you wish to price check in the "I Have" tab. It should look like this afterward:

Currency Exchange Ratio

This means that there are currently 462 buy orders that wish to exchange their 1 Exalted Orb for your 2 Vaal Orbs. If the price seems worth selling to you, pick how many Orbs you wish to sell and then click "Place Order". This lists your item for a small Gold fee. Make sure to double-check any mistakes beforehand!

Once the order is completed, simply collect your Exalted Orb on the left from this menu.

Waystones, Lesser Jeweller's Orbs, Greater Jeweller's Orbs, Perfect Jeweller's Orbs, Gemcutter's Prisms, Distilled Emotions, Essences, Expedition Currency, Catalysts, Breachstones

...and plenty more are worth price checking at least once so you get a rough overview just how much currency you loot during a map. Simply letting sellable items sit in your stash is one of the biggest mistake Beginners make constantly.

Auction House Tabs

Dump Tabbing

"Dump tabbing" is the practice of setting your public stash tab to a fixed price (e.g. 2 Exalted Orbs) and filling it almost indiscriminately with items you find. The idea here is that the more items you have up for sale, the higher the chances that players are interested in at least a few of them.

Items that may look worthless at first glance sell more often than you'd expect.

The Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO)

A common fear of dump tabbing is underselling some items when they could've sold for more. Here is why that fear is mainly unfounded and detrimental to maximizing your income:

  1. Second guessing each time somebody whispers you for an item causes sales paralysis
    • Makes you increase the price each time someone whispers you for an item until it's overpriced.
    • Selling an item immediately for 50% under its true value is far better than never selling it at all.
  2. Killing more monsters for more loot is better than price checking everything constantly
    • Manually price checking is time intensive and often not worth it
  3. You get immediate feedback if an item is truly listed for far below market price
    • If you quickly get whispered multiple times for the same item it most likely is under-priced
    • Investigate why the item is desired by Price Checking it (Explained below)
    • Re-list the item for a higher price.
    • A common beginner's mistake: Don't overprice your item just because it got a lot of whispers at once and then end up never selling it. The difference between getting spammed for an item and nobody ever messaging you for it can be as low as a single Exalted Orb. Do your research.
Price Checking Rares

Rares you get spammed for require more effort to accurately price check. Use the Official Trade Website in order to figure out your items value. Price Check your item by doing the following:

  1. Pick your Item Category. Keep in mind certain bases like Ruby Rings have higher baseline value than an Iron Ring.
    • You can either type "Ruby Ring" and hit enter in the "Search Items.." text field or add your items implicit in the Stat Filters section.
  2. Input your items mods within a reasonable range. For example if your ring has 30% Lightning Resistance set the minimum to 25%. You may also set a maximum in order to filter out items far better than yours but feel free to leave this open. Play around with these ranges.
  3. Click "Search" at the bottom of the page. Chances are if your item has more than 3 mods that nobody has an exact replica of your item. This does not automatically mean your item is worth a lot. It just means you have to figure out which mods are desired. Do this by:
    • Searching for just 1 to 3 mod combinations at a time by unticking the white rectangle on the left of your mods
    • When done correctly you would learn that the combination between high Lightning Resistance and high Maximum Life causes the item below to be valuable. The lightning damage is irrelevant in this case.

Keep in mind individually price checking all your items is not efficient in most cases and Dump Tabbing is the far superior method.

Efficiency

Throughout this Currency Guide there is a common theme across every section. That is efficiency - the ability to complete certain tasks in the shortest time frame possible while minimizing downtime.

Income = Time Spent * Efficiency

Of course nobody expects you to start playing like the top 1% of players and sacrifice all of your gameplay enjoyment for it. It however is good to keep the following things in mind:

  • Your Hideout is Lava. Every minute you spend on low yield activities in your hideout is better spent killing more monsters to gain more loot. If you notice you spend more time in your Hideout than inside a map, ask yourself why.
    • Are you spending too much time price checking and listing items? To sort your inventory? To simply marvel at your hideout decorations?
    • Are you having fun killing monsters? The more fun you have playing the game the more maps you naturally complete. Then perhaps consider a different build instead - games are supposed to be fun!
  • Tailor your build to the activity you are doing, or tailor your activity to the build you are playing.
    • You lack single target damage but your clear is great? Then bossing for profit is probably not the most efficient choice. Play to your strengths.

But don't forget: Fun above all else. Making as much money as possible can be fun for some people. But that is not always the case. Once you realize you are optimizing the fun out of your game consider slowing down. Your farmed Headhunter is useless if you don't feel like logging back in after buying it.

Farming Mechanics

As you keep progressing through the Waystone tiers you unlock Mechanic Specific Atlas Nodes. These allow you to enhance certain aspects of in-map events like Breach, allowing you to customize your experience when they appear. Here is how you can add your favourite mechanics to your maps reliably:

  • Locate a Lost Tower to place Breach Precursor Tablet of your desired mechanic into it.
  • Make sure there is a sufficient amount of uncleared maps in the radius
  • If there is another Tower nearby you may enhance it with Precursor Tablet.
  • Use your high value Waystones on the affected maps

High Value Bases

As you progress into higher Waystone tiers it becomes more worthwhile to quickly craft any bases your loot filter highlights as useful. Make sure to actually utilize a filter that properly hides low value items in order to not waste your currency on them. Maximize your chances for a good sale by:

  • Trust your loot filter to properly highlight good bases for the most part. General rule of thumb is that anything below bases that have the "Expert" prefix are not worth crafting on. The exception for this is Jewellery.
  • Transmute -> Aug -> Regal any high value base to generate more Rare items.
  • Worth doing as the cost to craft is low compared to the potential payoff across a large sample size
  • Do not Regal if the first 2 Magic mods are very bad

Extra Ways To Generate Currency

Of course there are plenty of other ways to make Currency. With some of them you don't even have to hit any monsters. Here are some ideas on how to make money when killing monsters just isn't your style or you are stuck with your work laptop.

Familiarize yourself with proof of concept.

Just like with any product in the real world you first have to figure out if people are interested in it. Find undersaturated markets by probing if there is any interest for it. Don't dive in head first by blindly crafting items that might not have any demand. This applies to profit crafting, flipping items or selling services. Start small.

Three examples
  • Crafting items for profit
    • The demand for good items always outweighs the supply of them. Find desired mod combinations of items and target craft them for sale. Sometimes it might be as easy as buying a blue ring with a resistance on it and using an Essence to guarantee a second resistance. Get creative and always utilize proof of concept for new ventures.
  • Flipping Items
    • Flipping means buying an under-priced item from another player and then re-listing it for its true value
    • This can be extremely lucrative as players constantly undervalue the items they drop
    • It creates a snowball effect of slowly gathering a higher and higher volume of items that are up for sale. The more Currency you have in assets, the more Currency you make down the line. Day trading with pixels.
    • Always utilize proof of concept before committing to high volume flips.
  • Selling Services
    • Selling a Service means doing something for another player that they cannot do themselves for money.
    • This involves Boss Carries, completions such as Ascendancy Trials, selling party slots to desired maps such as Untainted Paradise, Campaign Carries and plenty of others. Any content people struggle with is a potential market.
    • Recognize what other players are interested in by utilizing proof of concept

Summary

That concludes the Currency Guide. To recap: Set up a proper loot filter, don't underestimate the consistent sales and sell any items you can't liquidate in the Currency Exchange by Dump Tabbing them. Most important of all is being efficient with your time. For extra ways to generate currency look to craft on high value bases, look to farm mechanics your build excels at and utilize proof of concept for various currency schemes.
