The Acolyte of Chayula ascendancy provides a ton of extra damage through Reality Rending applying to Gas Arrow. The Flames of Chayula from Waking Dream grant bonuses from collecting them such as life and mana sustain, as well as extra damage. Waking Dream also gives a ton of utility through free reservations from Cannibalism, Clarity, Herbalism, Precision, and Vitality.
You do not need resistances on any specific item, just get the required total resistances amongst all gear combined.
Path of Exile 2 is currently in early access, this means rapid development including frequent changes to builds as there are balance fixes and we learn more. Pin this page to be notified of any updates.

Skills
You use the Lightning Rod into Lightning Arrow combo for your early Leveling.
Add in Freezing Salvo with Hourglass support for a big burst of extra single target damage and freeze utility.
After swapping to Gas Arrow at level 22, use your Gas Arrow once or twice then combo into Flame Wall to detonate the gas for multiple explosions.
Most enemies die to a single Gas Arrow combo. Use Flammability on tough rares and bosses for extra damage. Some bosses allow for pre-stacking Gas Arrow clouds, if this is the case, use Flammability first before blowing them up with Flame Wall. Keep in mind that Flammability has a high Intelligence requirement, so you may not be able to use it right away.
Select Herald of Thunder for your first Uncut Spirit Gem after you earn your first +30 Spirit. If you get another Uncut Spirit Gem select Herald of Ash as you need it for your swap to Gas Arrow, eventually this gives extra damage through Coming Calamity. Select Wind Dancer once you get to 60 Spirit further into the campaign for a nice boost to survival.
One big benefit of choosing the Acolyte of Chayula Ascendancy is the ability to have access to all the reservation supports, for FREE! Waking Dream can be linked to gems such as Cannibalism, Clarity, Herbalism, Precision, and Vitality. Once you have this ascendancy node, and extra support gems to cut, you should start to link it with these, they are listed in order of importance. Keep in mind they are only free when you link them in the skill provided by Waking Dream, this gains extra support sockets as you level up. The order listed is the priority but some of them require higher level support gems such as Cannibalism, so if you do not have access to that, go to the next one in the priority.
Once you hit level 22 and earn your first Uncut Skill Gem VII and select Gas Arrow, you stop using Lightning Rod and Lightning Arrow entirely.
From this point forward your damage combo is to use Gas Arrow with Scattershot and Martial Tempo support, followed by Flame Wall with Spell Cascade support to explode the Poison Gas Clouds created by Gas Arrow.
Once the enemy has an active Ignite on them, you can freely repeat Gas Arrow into them to create instant detonations.
For particularly strong enemies, use Flammability to lower their fire resistance causing them to take more damage. Keep in mind that this requires a lot of intelligence even at its lowest level, do not worry if you can't use it right away, just keep an eye out for attribute gear and take intelligence nodes as needed.
Once you reach Act 3, kill Ignagduk, The Bog Witch for +30 Spirit, cut the Uncut Spirit Gem into Wind Dancer for extra Evasion and a small push to enemies after being attacked allowing you to escape more easily.

Supports
You get +20% Resistance, 100 Spirit, a Lesser Jeweller's Orb, and many other permanent bonuses from completing bosses in the campaign. Use our Permanent Buffs Guide to ensure you have all of these before you start exploring the Atlas!
Passives
- You need around 60 Intelligence to use Flammability curse, make sure you take Intelligence nodes as needed.
- Eternal Youth should only be taken once you have at least 500+ total energy shield, this makes your life flask apply to energy shield instead. It pairs well with an instant recovery flask.
Ascendancy
Learn how to complete the Trial of the Sekhemas and Trial of Chaos to earn your first 2 Ascensions with our Ascension Guide!
- The first node you want to take from the Acolyte of Chayula ascendancy is Reality Rending. This adds a substantial amount of damage through the chance to "Gain % of damage with Hits as extra Chaos Damage". Reality Rending can trigger all three of it's damage instances at the same time, resulting in some pretty insane burst damage. Another added bonus is chaos damage deals double damage to Energy Shield, making it a very powerful node!
- Waking Dream is the second node you should take, this allows you to see the "Flames of Chayula". These Flames grant extra bonuses such as life and mana sustain from red and blue flames, and even more chaos damage through purple flames. A hidden benefit to this node is the ability to use reservation gems for free such as Cannibalism, Clarity, Herbalism, Precision, and Vitality. By the time you take this node, you should be able to support three of these, and they are listed in order of importance.
- Finally you should take Lucid Dreaming, this doubles the duration and benefit of the "Flames of Chayula".
Gearing
- By far the best way to get better gear in the campaign is to check the Vendor in Town each time you level up! As vendors change their offerings based on your level this is your best way to find upgrades. If you are desperately in need of a Weapon upgrade, check the previous Act's vendors as well.
- Prioritize +#% to Fire, Cold and Lightning Resistance as well as attributes and +# to Maximum Life on your gear. This build requires high attributes as you reach the end of Act 3, so finding gear with it early pays dividends in the future.
- Bows with % increased Physical Damage or Elemental Damage can last you a very long time if they are very well rolled. Prioritize Dualstring Bow Bases for the additional Projectile with Bow Skills, even if the Tooltip DPS is lower. You increase your DPS by looking for the following stats, sorted by order of importance:
- % increased Physical Damage
- Adds # to # Physical/Fire/Cold/Lightning Damage
- + Levels of Projectile Skills
- % Attack Speed
- A great source of gear is checking vendors occasionally for promising bases to craft on with Orb of Transmutation, Orb of Augmentation and Regal Orb
- To finish off your item use one or two Artificer's Orb and socket defensive Runes like Body Rune or Glacial Rune
- Be sure to pickup all items with Rune Sockets regardless of color and salvage them for Artificer's Shards
- If you are still struggling check out our Survival Guide for additional useful information!
