Bleed Rake Amazon Build Guide

Dawn of the Hunt 0.2.0Early Access

Last Updated:April 16, 2025|Changelog|FAQ

The Bleed Rake Amazon Build Guide is great for people who enjoy a very mobile and snappy play style. Dashing in and out of combat, while applying massive bleeds with Rake, causing enemies to explode in fountains of blood, thanks to Herald of Blood.

Rake is the main skill that you use from Act 1 onwards, this ability dashes towards enemies inflicting more bleed damage based on distance traveled. Paired with Disengage, you can quickly retreat to safety while dealing even more damage. Once the target has taken enough bleed damage, you finish them off with Blood Hunt, yet another dash ability that deals massive damage based on how much bleed damage the target has taken.

The clear speed of Rake is further scaled by Stomping Ground, a support gem that causes multiple AoE explosions dealing damage based on your strength. These stomps cause enemies to bleed and then explode thanks to Herald of Blood. If that wasn't enough you also have the ability called Spearfield, this allows you to clear from ranged if an encounter is particularly scary, you can kite with it, and Spearfield clears very well on its own.

Skills

Early Access - Dawn of the Hunt

Rake
Spearfield
Bloodhunt
  • From level one, take Explosive Spear as your first uncut gem. This combined with Overabundance and Expedite will greatly help your early game damage. Early on the playstyle is simple: Explosive Spear and run, while using Spear Stab on single target.
  • Disengage is the next gem, this is a core ability to the build for the entire game. Disengage allows you to quickly dodge attacks or move around quickly by facing backwards and using it as a movement ability. This also causes a shockwave attack in a cone, which does surprising amounts of damage.
  • Rake comes into play soon after. This is your main ability throughout the rest of the game. Combined with Stomping Ground, this has great clear and also single target. Make sure you link it to Stomping Ground and Lacerate as soon as possible! Strength scales Stomping Ground, so it is very important to get as MUCH as possible, there are a few early unique items that can help with this such as Horns of Bynden and Meginord's Girdle.
  • Once you hit Level 14 you can drop Explosive Spear and replace it with Spearfield, this has the Melee Tag, but it's surprisingly ranged. Spearfield is EXTREMELY versatile, this ability does quite a bit of damage on it's own, but it also can apply a wide range of debuffs such as Blood in the Eyes and armour break, while also generating Rage fast thanks to how large it's AOE is and how many times it can hit.
  • On big bosses such as Doryani second phase, Spearfield becomes the highest damaging ability thanks to it's overlapping potential.
  • Blood Hunt comes next, and this might be the most fun ability to use. This is your finisher, it does damage based on how much bleed damage a target has taken. Simply put: the more bleed damage you have, the larger the hit. Ideally you use Blood Hunt during Predatory Instinct from your ascendancy, if properly executed this combo can delete bosses.
  • If that wasn't enough, there's also Bloodhound's Mark. This ability marks an enemy and causes your bleed damage to apply to heavy stun, eventually causing whatever is marked to be stunned and then resulting in an explosion of damage. Bloodhound's Mark is linked to utility such as Single Out for armor break and Rupture for aggravate on heavy stun. Though later it can be supported with damage links, it is a lower priority than Blood Hunt.
  • Wind Dancer is the next Spirit Gem after Herald of Blood, this gives evasion rating, and a much needed defensive boost.

Tame Beast can be used if you have extra spirit on gear such as on Body Armor or Amulet slots. This ability allows you to "tame" a rare beast giving you a minion that can supply you with useful buffs such as a physical aura. Keep in mind that this ability doesn't have a static spirit cost, and can vary greatly depending on the amount of mods the beast has.

Gem Engraving Priority

Since most of your damage early on is from the Stomping Ground support gem on Rake, prioritize cutting new skills over leveling existing ones. If you have any extra uncut gems, the most important gems to level first are Rake and Spearfield.

Skill Rotation

Single Target
Clear
  1. Start combat by using Spearfield to apply debuffs and generate Rage.
  2. Use Bloodhound's Mark to cause bleeding to apply to heavy stun. Make sure you reapply if needed since it explodes due to heavy stunning.
  3. Rake into melee range and rotate between Rake and Disengage.
  4. Reapply Spearfield as needed for debuffs.
  5. Finish with Blood Hunt once the target has suffered enough bleeding damage.
  1. Spam Rake if it is safe to do so.
  2. On dangerous packs or encounters Disengage back and spam Spearfield to clear instead.
  3. Disengage is extremely versatile, you can use it to leap forwards or sideways through and around packs. It is also very important as a tool for surviving against ranged attacks and dodging out of the way of AoE explosions.

Ascendancy

How to Ascend

Learn how to complete the Trial of the Sekhemas and Trial of Chaos to earn your first 2 Ascensions with our Ascension Guide!

  • Take Critical Strike ascendancy node first. This node is the main reason for playing the Amazon ascendancy. Stack accuracy to gain massive amounts of critical hit, which is great because your bleed is based on the size of the initial hit that inflicted it.
  • Predatory Instinct is second, this causing you to reveal weaknesses against rare enemies and bosses. This shows up on the monsters health bar allowing you to time things like Blood Hunt for a huge damage increase.
  • Penetrate is taken third, this only works if you have Accuracy Rating on your weapon, it can potentially add massive flat physical damage depending on how well rolled your weapon is. This is worth taking second if you have a good weapon with at least 150 or more accuracy rating. Make sure to socket your weapon with Greater Vision Rune instead of Greater Iron Rune as the flat accuracy is much better most of the time.
  • Lastly you have the option between In for the Kill or Azmeri Brew. In for the Kill gives a movement speed and skill speed boost, if you are in the presence of a rare with expose weakness from Predatory Instinct. The uptime however, is very limited. Azmeri Brew can be taken instead if you are having any mana issues or running out of life flask charges, this allows your life flasks to recover mana and mana flasks to recover life.

  • For the attribute nodes take enough Dexterity to meet gear, skill gem and support gem requirements, then use the rest on Strength for more life and damage for Stomping Ground. The more Strength you get, the more damage you have early.
    • You can use your Gold at the Hooded one or Doryani to respec and change your Attributes if a new skill or gear upgrade leaves you unable to use your skills/items.
  • Campaign Tree - Early on the priority is to get as many damage increase nodes as you can such as Maiming Strike, Versatile Arms, Roll and Strike, and Precise Point. Once you get Critical Strike from your ascendancy the priority swaps to grabbing Accuracy and Critical Strike nodes. Pinpoint Shot and Falcon Dive are the main accuracy clusters to head for. If you are having issues dying, consider taking more Evasion Nodes such as Escape Velocity and Freedom of Movement.
  • Attributes can be rough, so the tree goes for Polymathy next, along with some area of effect from Authority. Eventually these are dropped once you have better gear and can instill Authority on your amulet.
  • Once you have a good weapon with Accuracy Rating, your focus on strength can be lessened, though any strength you can manage is more damage and life.

Maps
Min/Max
  • During the campaign, try to get life and Resistances. Keep an eye out for Horns of Bynden, Meginord's Girdle. Getting as much Strength as possible for Stomping Ground helps massively early on.
  • Make sure to continously upgrade your spear, as most of your damage is scaled off of it.
  • Keep your Body Armor up-to-date as much as possible with the most Evasion you can get. Early on Armor/Evasion hybrid can help a lot too.
  • Venopuncture is a very good unique ring that can be acquired at level 36, this gives the ability to chill, as well as damage through bleed chance, Strength, and Bleeding Magnitude. This ring however can be very expensive.
Bleed Rake Amazon Campaign Gear
  • As you enter the Atlas of Worlds and begin mapping, your first goal is to cap your resistances and meet Attribute requirements. You want a body armor with as much Evasion as possible, as chance to Evade is your main defense.
  • Have at least one roll of both Life and Mana leech somewhere on your gear. These can roll on weapon, rings, or glove slot. Ideally you get this on rings.
  • Cloak of Flame can be a decent early defensive option for body armor, this can be combined with the Stalking Panther ascendancy node.
  • Aim to get a spear with high Accuracy Rating and as much physical dps as you can.
  • Prioritize getting Lycosidae, although this can be expensive early, it doubles your accuracy giving you massive critical strike and attack speed. An alternative would be a high evasion and block shield.
  • After that, focus on increasing your life, Strength, and evasion to ensure you have the defenses to complete red maps efficiently.
Bleed Rake Amazon Early Map Gear
  • Once you start progressing the character further and further into the endgame you can start working towards more expensive gear.
  • Ryslatha's Coil is the best in slot damage belt, it makes your maximum hit much higher for the bleed damage.
  • Working towards gear such as Astramentis makes gearing defensively much easier through Evasion and Energy Shield gear, this combined with Ghost Dance makes you quite a bit tankier.
  • Hyrri's Ire is another direction you can take, this allows you take have an effect similar to Acrobatics, without the downside of less evasion rating. The main benefit of this item would be the ability to avoid slam attacks.

FAQ

Early Access - Dawn of the Hunt
Bleed Rake Amazon Build Guide

Rake has 100% chance to bleed on it's own, however Stomping Ground does not. Lacerate is linked so that it can bleed, and it makes the clear much cleaner with Herald of Blood.
