Monster Hunter Wilds at Gamescom Opening Night
New information for Monster Hunter Wilds was revealed at GamesCom Opening night. Read on for a recap of what we saw.
A New Spider Monster: Lala Barina
The new spider monster speculated about since the Charge Blade showcase was unveiled. Its name is Lala Barina, and it is a highly mobile Temnoceran with blade-like legs, with a back that seems to be able to bloom like a rose, expelling projectiles. It is capable of flips and leaping into the air to attack the hunter from above. This monster can paralyze the hunter and is capable of spinning large, scarlet webs. You can see what is likely its signature armor and Charge Blade in the video below.
Rey Dau Name and Apex Status Confirmed
The name and status of the lightning monster revealed in prior trailers is now known! Its name is Rey Dau, and it is the apex monster of the Windward Plains. We got to see more of how it moves in combat, attacking by slamming its wings, stabbing with its horns, and flipping through the air to attack the hunter. We also saw that it has 4 horns on its face which it can bring together into a ring shape, allowing it to fire an almost railgun-like attack.
Scarlet Forest Locale Revealed
Included in the Lala Barina reveal was information on the new Scarlett Forest locale. The area is a forest with crimson swamps and spider webs. It also includes rock formations with some felled and rotting trees. So far, the only monsters that we have seen in the locale are Doshaguma and Lala Barana, but more are sure to come as reveals continue.
Potential Changes to Dual Blade's Demon Dance
It looks like Dual Blades users now have the ability to extend Demon Dance, Dual Blades longest animation commitment attack that deals high damage. A flash appeared before what was previously the final hit of the combo, and the hunter continued to attack with a new series of movements. This implies that you are now able to choose whether you want to back out of Demon Dance and reposition safely or continue with the barrage of attacks.
NPC Hunting Companions Return
NPC hunting companions were a popular feature in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, and they are returning in Wilds. In Sunbreak, your hunting companions functioned not dissimilarly from Palicos. Taking more of a support role rather than dealing heavy damage, not consuming carts when they ran out of health, and not increasing the health scaling of monsters. We do not have details on how this system works in Wilds, so look out for that information in the future.
