Gustave Skills Guide

Last Updated:April 24, 2025|Changelog

Gustave is an engineer and the inventor of the Lumina Converter. He wields a blade and pistol, but his true weapon is hidden within his mechanical arm. After most of Expedition 33 is wiped out on the beach, he becomes the group's de facto leader. This guide details each of Gustave's skills, with notes on how to use them, then continues on to suggested synergies and team compositions.

Gustave's unique mechanic is Charge. He builds Charges by attacking, dodging, parrying, and building skills. When used with 10 Charges, his Overcharge ability deals massive damage and is very likely to Break enemies, stunning them for a round.

Skill Breakdown

SkillNotes
Lumière AssaultGreat for building charges. Because it has 5 hits, there are plenty of opportunities to crit, so you generate 6-7 Charges on average.
OverchargeGustave's nuke skill. At 10 Charge, this is very likely to break the enemy. Use Lumière Assault, or Parrying to rebuild Charges.
PowerfulHit both Perfects to apply the buff to your entire party and generate 2 Charges. The buff lasts 3 turns, making it very valuable.
Marking ShotUse Marking Shot before another party member uses a highly damaging skill. Since this only costs 2 AP, you can save up for another skill or fire off some Free Aim shots.
RecoveryThis skill is pretty useful on lower difficulties but less effective on high difficulties, where it becomes more difficult to build Gustave as a tank.
From FireA good way to add a bit of health sustain while doing damage. You want enemies to always be burning to enable many synergies across Expedition 33's characters.
ShatterAn excellent AoE Break skill, use this to set up an Overcharge or take out an entire group of enemies all at once.
Strike StormIf you can manage the hefty AP cost, this skill does excellent damage while efficiently building Charges for your next Overcharge.

NOTE: Because Gustave only has 8 skills unlocked at the start of the game, and no early weapons with special effects, his builds are simpler than the other characters.

Build Synergies

Gustave

Gustave can provide the Powerful buff, deal high burst damage with Overcharge, and efficiently break multiple enemies. His skills mostly deal Lightning damage, Physical damage, or use his Weapon's element, you get a wide variety of weapons to use in the early game making, it pretty easy to match an enemy's weakness. He benefits a lot from Critical Hits and has some Burn synergy, but no skills that inherently apply Burning. Gustave doesn't have many support options. He provides Powerful, but aside from that, he can only heal himself, and cannot apply many statuses.

Summary

  • Gustave's skills excel at dealing damage and breaking enemies.
    • Overcharge is a massive nuke and Shatter is an AoE break.
  • His build choices are limited because he only has 8 skills unlocked at the start of the game.
    • There are also no weapons with special effects available in the early game for Gustave.
