Chronomancer Ascendancy Overview

Chronomancer Mechanics

The Chronomancer Ascendancy for the Sorceress class in Path of Exile 2 offers playstyle centered around cooldowns and time manipulation.

Time Manipulation

• Footprints in the Sand - Grants Temporal Rift ability. This Skill allows you to go back in time every few seconds returning to your previous position, Life, Mana and Energy Shield pool. This becomes your life saving button whenever you find yourself in a tough situation.
• Ultimate Command - Grants Time Freeze ability. This Skill allows you to stop time every 1 minute for 3 seconds. This is a very powerful crowd control ability which prevents all enemies from performing any actions. This is especially powerful when playing in a group because with high investment into Cooldown Recovery Rate you can use this ability extremely often turning you into a support character. If enemy is frozen in time again before 30s have passed the duration is halved so make sure you don't use it too often unless absolutely necessary.

Cooldown Reduction

• Now and Again - Provides 33% chance to not consume a cooldown when using an ability.
• Unbound Encore - Grants Time Snap ability. This allows you to reset cooldowns of all abilities every 30-40s.

The Chronomancer Ascendancy thanks to these passive nodes can spam cooldown abilities extremely often. Keep in mind that Now and Again can proc while using Time Snap allowing you to occasionally have long chains of cooldown resets. However bad luck can make this playstyle frustrating when multiple times in a row you don't get any procs so use these passives only if you don't mind the randomness.

Both of these passives synergize very well with Time manipulating abilities provided by Footprints in the Sand and Ultimate Command allowing you to use them more often. Remember that when monster is frozen by Time Freeze more often than every 30 seconds it's duration is reduced by half each time. To play around that wait 30s between each cast or use on different group of monsters each time while mapping.

Thanks to Blink ability and great Cooldown Recovery Chronomancers are the most mobile casters so try to fit it in your build by reserving 60 spirit.

Damage and Defences

• The Rapid River - Makes you Recoup Effects occur over 4s instead of 8. With high Life pool and investment into Life Recoup Chronomancer has one of the best recovery tools in the entire game making him unlikely to die to anything other than one shots. Footprints in the Sand can solve that issue if you time it well to avoid incoming high damage abilities so as long as you don't die to 1 hit your life recovers extremely quickly.
• Quicksand Hourglass - Provides 50% more Cast Speed for 5 seconds every 10s which means it's active half the time. This playstyle can be annoying for some players because of it's inconsistency. However during boss fights utilizing the increased Cast Speed time window and combining it with some high cooldown and high damage abilities can result in massive burst of damage and then allowing you to focus on dodging the boss abilities.
• Flood of Echoes - Grants Unleash ability. This Skill makes your next spell be repeated 2 additional times further improving your burst damage potential. This is another cooldown ability which can be reset by Now and Again and Unbound Encore.
