PoB2 Release and PoB Team Partnership
After a few delays, Path of Building is finally out for Path of Exile 2! PoB2 is a separate application dedicated to Path of Exile 2, created by LocalIdentity and his team. In addition, we are honored to announce PoB2 hosting here on Maxroll and our partnership with the PoB team.
What is PoB2?
PoB2 is the newest version of Path of Building, a character builder originally developed for Path of Exile 1. In the early days of the Path of Exile 1 beta it was extremely difficult for players to create optimized builds, why does stacking physical damage increase the fire damage from your burning arrow? Soon enough, this question was answered by the programmer OpenARL, who created the first version of Path of Building.
Path of Building quickly became the premiere tool for theorycrafting in Path of Exile. OpenARL maintained it for several years before getting a job offer from Grinding Gear Games. This left Path of Building without its main developer, the tool was still popular in the community but needs updates with every patch.
It was at this point, about 5 years ago that LocalIdentity entered the picture. He created the Path of Building Community Fork, a variant of the original program that he maintains with help from his team and the Path of Exile community. Since then he's done a lot to expand Path of Building, adding support for new features and integrating calculations.
Now, with the early access for Path of Exile 2, the PoB team has been hard at work to provide a new tool for buildcrafting, Path of Building 2. This is a separate stand-alone application, that just like the original PoB will grow over time.
Partnership and PoB2 Hosting
We have partnered with the PoB team to provide PoB2 hosting here on Maxroll. This means you can export your build directly from PoB2 to the Maxroll website and then share it via the URL.
Note: you can still host PoBs on any other 3rd party sites that support PoB2.
- This is an example of a PoB2 export here on Maxroll.
- You can find important information like damage, defenses, skills, equipment, the passive tree, and even some handy notes.
- The export makes it easy to see information at a glance and then share the build.
- Keep in mind it is not a build planner, so it doesn't have customization options. To make changes you need to make your changes in PoB2 and then re-export.
- Here are some example PoB2 exports:
- Note: some features are not fully implemented in PoB yet!
Searchable Builds
Currently, you can import and export PoB codes, then share the URL. But our Path of Exile 2 Community Builds section has been very popular. Would you like to see something similar for PoB2 exports, where you can upload your build to a public repository and people can browse/search for builds?
PoB2
You can download PoB2 from GitHub here.
Because this is a new program, there's a good chance that Windows will warn you the program is potentially unsafe. You can ignore this warning and continue with the installation.
You can read about the PoB2 release on Reddit with a post from LocalIdentity.
Core Features
Here are the core features offered in PoB2.
- Basic Skill Support
- Support Gems
- Auras
- Ailments
- Skill Tree & Ascendancies
- Some Uniques
- Runes
- Spirit Reservation
- Limited Item Crafting
Coming Later
- Character Imports - this depends on GGG's API.
- Meta Skill / Trigger Skill calculations - This needs an overhaul and there wasn't time for release.
- Skill Combos - In the future, the PoB2 team hopes to support complex skill rotations and calculate the DPS.
- Full Support for item crafting - Because GGG hid item weights, this takes time to crowd source.
- Support for all nodes/modifiers/ascendancies - Many are already supported, blue colored things are parsed, red colored things are not.
- Proper support for skills granted by items - This is a big shift from PoE1 where skill gems were tied to item sockets and there wasn't time to have this in for release.
- Export PoB to Maxroll Planners - In the future you can plug a PoB code directly into our PoE2Planner to load the build.
More in the Future
In addition to the core and upcoming features, LocalIdentity and his team are hard at work adding more to PoB2. We're also working with the PoB team for more exciting things coming later down the line. Stay tuned for more updates and PoB news here on Maxroll! Whenever there's major news, expect an article, for smaller updates LocalIdentity will announce it in both his discord and ours.
