Last Updated:January 4, 2025|Changelog|FAQ

This Gas Grenade Deadeye Leveling Guide for the Ranger Class teaches you how to build your character with step-by-step explanations. Follow the same build I used to finish the campaign to get the most out of your campaign playthrough.

Are you annoyed by the slow movement of other classes? Then this build is definitely for you! Traverse areas quickly with high movement speed along with Lightning Warp to teleport around even faster. Explode your Gas Grenades with Explosive Shot for large amounts of damage.

Are you planning to play a Bow build in the endgame or want to level even faster? Use the Gas Arrow Leveling Guide instead!

Gas Grenade Deadeye Leveling

While killing regular monsters combo your Gas Grenades once or twice into Explosive Shot to detonate the gas for multiple explosions.

Most of the enemies die to a single Gas Grenade combo. Use Oil Grenade against Magic and Rare monsters to apply the Exposure debuff, drastically reducing their fire resistance.

During boss encounters utilize Oil Grenade and Flammability to reduce fire resistance even further.

Once you find a body armor or amulet with enough Spirit you can add the Blasphemy Spirit Gem linking Flammability. This causes it to always affect nearby enemies without any cast time or delay.

Gas Grenade has high mana cost that can be hard to sustain. Support it with Inspiration and make sure to use the best Mana Flask possible at your level.

  1. Lightning Arrow you start with this, no cutting required.
    • This is your main damaging ability throughout Act 1 until you swap to Grenades around level 22
  2. Lightning Rod
    • Lightning Rod fires an arrow into the air that lands on the ground in a lightning explosion. Upon having Lightning Arrow or any other skill chain to it, the explosion occurs again up to 8 times.
    • You support it with Scattershot to spawn 3 rods at once for easier gameplay.
  3. Escape Shot
    • Deals cold damage and freezes your enemies while launching you backwards. This is a great tool if you start to get surrounded or need an emergency defensive option.

Use any leftover Uncut Skill Gem II that you drop to level up Lightning Arrow, Lightning Rod and Escape Shot in that order.

Teleportation Can Have Unintended Consequences

While this strategy allows you great mobility and large increases to your damage, teleporting directly into packs of monsters may result in bodily harm or death. On the flipside, it is a great escape tool if you are ever surrounded as Ball Lightning travels straight through enemies.

  1. Lightning Warp
    • Support with Persistence to have a longer duration Shocked Ground for additional damage.
    • Only usable once you have Ball Lightning
    • Support with Overcharge once you get a Uncut Support Gem III

Continue leveling Gas Grenade and Explosive Shot with Uncut Skill Gems.

Act 3 Cruel

  1. Pick up the second guaranteed Lesser Jeweller's Orb in the Sandswept Marsh that can be found in a chest in a small encampment at the edge of the layout.
    • Support Explosive Shot with Nimble Reload
  2. After defeating the Boss in the Azak Bog for +40 permanent spirit apply Clarity and Precision for Wind Dancer if you had to remove them earlier for not having any spirit on Gear when equipping Blasphemy

How to Ascend

Learn how to complete the Trial of the Sekhemas and Trial of Chaos to earn your first 2 Ascensions with our Ascension Guide!

  1. Pick Projectile Proximity Specialisation for your first ascendancy node and select Point Blank. This provides a large damage boost when projectiles do not travel very far, which is in line with you detonating your grenades right in front of you.
  2. Endless Munitions gives you a massive damage boost and the most felt power spike on the build due to all of the extra grenades.

Gearing

Early Access
Gas Grenade Deadeye Leveling
  • By far the best way to get better gear in the campaign is to check the Vendor in Town each time you level up! As vendors change their offerings based on your level this is your best way to find upgrades. If you are desperately in need of a Weapon upgrade, check the previous Act's vendors as well.
  • Prioritize +#% to Fire, Cold and Lightning Resistance as well as attributes and +# to Maximum Life on your gear. This build requires high attributes as you reach the end of Act 3, so finding gear with it early will pay dividends in the future. Having Life Regeneration on just a couple pieces as well allows you to be more conservative with your Life Flask usage.
  • Most of the damage you take during the campaign outside of Boss/Rare encounters is Physical Damage. Focus on getting gear with Armour and Evasion to maximize your defenses.

Bows and Crossbows

  • Look for Bows and Crossbows with + Levels of all Projectile Skills starting very early. This combined with % increased Physical Damage lastS you a very long time before finding a replacement. Even if you do not use a Crossbow until level 25, you can start finding them with +3 Level of Projectile Skills at level 18. You increase your DPS by looking for the following stats, sorted by order of importance:
    • + Levels of Projectile Skills
    • % increased Physical Damage
    • % Attack Speed
    • Adds # to # Physical/Fire/Cold/Lightning Damage
    • % increased Elemental Damage with Attacks
  • A great source of gear is checking vendors occasionally for promising bases to craft on with Orb of Transmutation, Orb of Augmentation, Regal Orb, Exalted Orb, Chaos Orb and Essences.
  • To finish off your item use one or two Artificer's Orb and socket defensive Runes like Body Rune or Glacial Rune.
  • Be sure to pickup all items with Rune Sockets regardless of color and salvage them for Artificer's Shards
  • If you are still struggling check out our Survival Guide for additional useful information!
