Ambush
The Ambush strategy is a high-investment late game farming method that yields enormous amounts of Currency and Divination Cards. This guide covers the best ways to farm Strongboxes in Tier 17 maps, while also offering variations suitable for lower investment levels.
This strategy heavily rewards volume, as running a large number of maps increases your chances of jackpot drops, such as duplicated high-tier Divination Cards and valuable currencies.
Set-Up
When setting up to run this strategy, it is recommended that you purchase enough materials to complete a sizable batch of maps. Failing to do this makes selling your drops far more difficult, as you frequently need to interrupt farming to trade for additional supplies.
Map Choice
- Tier 17 - Any Tier 17 map is viable for this strategy, but for the best results you can optimize the strategy by doing the following maps due to the Uber Boss fragment biases present on each map:
- Sanctuary Map - Devouring Fragment
- Ziggurat Map - Devouring Fragment, Reality Fragment
- Abomination Map - Reality Fragment
- For Tier 17 roll your Maps for either 100% more Scarabs or 140% more Currency using the following regex;
- "e sc.(\d{3})%|e cu.1[4-9].%|e cu.*[2-4]..%"
- Quality the maps with Cartographer's Chisel
- Maven's Chisel of Avarice can be used on very high Currency maps 150%+
- Maven's Chisel of Scarabs can be used on very high scarab maps 130%+

- Ambush - 5 Additional Strongboxes (3 Chaos Orbs)
Fragments
- Both options below are very effective. Even though Ambush Scarab of Containment is a steep entry fee, in the long run it is more effective than the cheap version due to more Arcanists Strongboxes and Diviners Strongboxes, rewarding chase items such as:
- The Apothecary
- Fire Of Unknown Origin
- Unrequited Love
- House of Mirrors
- Hinekora's Lock
- These drops are still extremely rare. If you cannot run a large number of maps, where you're statistically more likely to see one, opt for the low-investment variation instead.

- Uber Boss Fragments (Devouring Fragment, Reality Fragment, Awakening Fragment)
- Scarabs
FAQ
The loot from the Strongboxes does not seem to scale with the Tier 17 specific modifiers for "More Currency". The mobs spawned from the boxes do however, and due to Secret Compartments combined with Ambush Scarab of Hidden Compartments this greatly increases the number of monsters you are spawning in your maps.
Strongboxes scale with area quantity, making it optimal to roll maps for high quantity and use Cartographer's Chisel. This is the most effective way to boost the raw loot dropped directly from Strongboxes.
The Ambush Scarab of Containment puts all the monsters from your map into Strongboxes. This conflicts with influence spawning mechanics so you get very few altars when using this Scarab.
