Thunder Wastes Watcher Boss Guide

The Thunder Waste Watcher is one of the five "Watchers of the Netherrealm". You must defeat any combination of 4 of these Watchers to challenge the Traveler, one of the pinnacle bosses. The Watchers of the Netherrealm are harder than typical Beacon Bosses. The difficulty of the Watcher is based on which Timemark (1-8) you are attempting.

In order to fight the Thunder Waste Watcher, you have to generate enough Stage Attention. The required amount varies based on Timemark Level, ranging from 4-10.

Watchers have specific loot tables. Chaos Invasion Card Inheritance does not affect the Watcher's fight or loot table in any way.

Skills Breakdown

Triangle Dash

The Thunder Waste Watcher dashes in a triangle formation dealing Physical and Fire damage, leaving behind 2 small clones and ending with 3 lightning kunai blade projectiles. It is telegraphed by the Watcher standing crouched and pulling back his arm with his lightning blade. He always starts the fight with this attack. Avoid this by running far north of the Watcher and wait for him to finish his dash pattern.

Leap Attack

The Thunder Waste Watcher jumps into the air and preforms 2 Leap Attacks, spawning a Small Clone dealing Physical and Fire damage. Telegraphed by the Watcher jumping into the air. Avoid this by not standing still and running or using a movement skill to get away from the Watcher.

Lightning Storm

The Thunder Waste Watcher calls down a Lightning Storm dealing Fire damage that moves in a straight line. It is telegraphed by the Watcher standing still and raising his empty hand calling down the Lightning Storm. Avoid this by side stepping or using a movement skill to get away.

Dash Attack

The Thunder Waste Watcher dashes forward causing Physical and Fire damage. It is telegraphed by a pause, and a full wind up of his spear going fully behind him. Avoid it by staying behind the Watcher, side stepping or using a movement skill to get away.

Frontal Slam

The Thunder Waste Watcher teleports to you and slams his spear into the ground in front of him, dealing high Physical and Fire damage. It is telegraphed by the Watcher teleporting to you. Avoid this by running or using a movement skill to get away.

Teleport Clone Slash

The Thunder Waste Watcher teleports to you and spawns a small immobile Clone that slashes repeatedly in front of it for 3 seconds, dealing Physical and Cold damage. It is telegraphed by the Watcher teleporting onto you. Avoid this by running or using a movement skill to get away from the Watcher and the Clone.

Small Clone

Throughout the fight, the Thunder Waste Watcher spawns small clones. These clones have low HP and can be killed fairly quickly. They preform much smaller copies of the Thunder Waste Watcher skills, Lightning Storm (only one lightning strike instead of a storm) and Dash Attack. It is best to kill the Clones as fast as possible. Avoid these attacks the same way as you would avoid the Watchers attacks.

Lightning Pizza Party

At 75% the Thunder Waste Watcher has his first Lightning Pizza Party by going immune and teleporting to the center of the arena. He then begins to fill the arena floor with pizza shaped Lightning lines. Some are hot/live, indicated by RED Lines, these deal massive Lightning damage if touched. Others are safe/dead, indicated by Blue Lights. These colors change from Blue to Red, be sure to find a safe spot between them or away form the Red Lines. You can pass safely through the Blue Lines if needed. The first Lightning Pizza Party has 2 cycles and once used it becomes part of his normal attack rotation. If your damage is low and you can't get him down to 50% health quickly, he can use this Ability again.

5 Shadow Clones

The Thunder Waste Watcher spawns 5 Shadow Clones in a crescent shaped pattern around the arena border. After a brief delay, the Shadow Clones turn into Lightning Balls on the floor that move to your current location. It is telegraphed by the Watcher standing still and raising both hands over his head. Avoid this by running to the opposite side of the Shadow Clones and wait for the Lightning Balls to spawn, then move away from your current location avoiding the Lightning Balls path.

Shadow Clone Army

The Thunder Waste Watcher spawns a Shadow Clone Army in a square shaped pattern around the arena border. After a brief delay, the Shadow Clones turn into Lightning Balls on the floor that move to the center of the arena and then return back to where they started. It is telegraphed by the Watcher standing still and raising both hands over his head. Avoid this by running to any of the corners of the square and wait for the Lightning Balls to spawn and return back to where they started.

Lightning Pillars

The Thunder Waste Watcher spawns 4 Lightning Pillars that begin to charge up, indicated by the blue ring inside growing towards the border. Once the Pillars are charged they explode dealing Fire damage and spawning a Big Clone. These pillars can be removed by destroying them, stopping the charge and creating a safe space. Avoid this by not staying inside the rings around the pillars or by destroying the pillars quickly and creating a safe space underneath them.

Big Clones

Once a Lightning Pillar explodes it spawns a Big Clone. These clones have low-mid HP and can be killed fairly quickly. They preform copies of the Thunder Waste Watcher skills, Lightning Storm (only one lightning strike instead of a storm), Dash Attack, Leap Attack, and Clone Slash. It is best to kill the Clones as fast as possible. Avoid the attacks the same way as you would avoid the Watchers attacks.

Lightning Hot Spots (T8 Only)

On Timemark 8, The Thunder Waste Watcher gains the ability to create Lightning Hot Spots on the floor of the arena dealing low Lightning damage. It is telegraphed by the Watcher going immune and levitating off the ground. He then creates Lightning Hot Spots on the floor wherever a clone was standing, followed by 3 overlapping large Lightning Blasts, then 2 final large Lightning Blasts dealing high Cold damage. The 4 small Lightning Hot Spots remain on the floor for a short duration. Avoid this by not standing on/in the Lightning Hot Spots on the floor and moving out of the Lightning Blasts radius.

Lightning Blast (T8 Only)

In Timemark 8, the Thunder Waste Watcher gains the ability to cast Lightning Blast. This is telegraphed by a large Blue Circle with an inner Light Blue ring that grows towards the border. Once at the border the blast will explode dealing massive Lightning Damage. Avoid this by moving out of the large Blue Circles on the ground.

Lightning Pizza Party 2

At 50% the Thunder Waste Watcher has his 2nd Lightning Pizza Party by going immune and teleporting to the center of the arena. The first 2 cycles are the same as the first Pizza Party. He then spawns 4 Lightning Pillars and begins to cast another 4 cycles of Lightning Pizza Party. Avoid or kill the pillars and find a safe spot between the Pizza Party Red Lines and the Lightning Pillars. Once the Pillars explode they spawn Big Clones. After the 4 cycles are over the boss returns to his attack rotation. If your damage is low and you can't finish the fight quickly he can use this Ability again.

Thunder Waste Watcher Mechanics

Once you enter the Boss arena, you find the Thunder Waste Watcher in the center. Engage him but beware of his abilities. Try to stay behind the Watcher as much as possible. It is highly recommended to have maxed out Fire, Cold and Lightning Resistance. The fight itself is split into 2 major Phases: The Boss Phase and the Lightning Pizza Party, each repeating multiple times.

Boss Phase 1

The Thunder Waste Watcher always begin the fight with Triangle Dash so be prepared to doge this. In phase 1 the Watcher rotates through his skills: Triangle Dash, Leap Attack, Thunder Storm, Dash Attack, Frontal Slam, Teleport Clone Slash and spawns Small Clones (In T8 he will also cast Lightning Hot Spots and Lightning Blast). At 75% HP the Thunder Waste Watcher throws his first Lightning Pizza Party.

Note: You can skip the Pizza Party by dealing high Damage to the Watcher and killing him quickly. If you push him past 50%, but do not kill him, you will trigger Lightning Pizza Part 2 as well.

Lightning Pizza Party 1

At 75% the Thunder Waste Watcher has his first Lightning Pizza Party by going immune and teleporting to the center of the arena. He then begins to fill the arena floor with pizza shaped Lightning lines. Some are hot/live, indicated by RED Lines, these deal massive Lightning damage if touched. Others are safe/dead, indicated by Blue Lights. These colors change from Blue to Red, be sure to find a safe spot between them or away form the Red Lines. You can pass safely through the Blue Lines if needed. The first Lightning Pizza Party has 2 cycles. If your damage is low and you can't finish the fight quickly he can use this Ability again.

Boss Phase 2

After the first Lightning Pizza Party the Thunder Waste Watcher returns to his attack rotation of abilities: Triangle Dash, Leap Attack, Thunder Storm, Dash Attack, Frontal Slam, Teleport Clone Slash and spawn Small Clones as well as adding 5 Shadow Clones, Shadow Clone Army and Lightning Pizza Party 1. (In T8 he also adds Lightning Pillars and Big Clones) At 50% HP the Thunder Waste Watcher throws his 2nd Lightning Pizza Party.
