Lord of the Void Sea
Invitation to unlock the Boss fight

To challenge Lord of the Void Sea you need to collect an invitation that has a chance to drop after defeating The Ghost Sea Bride. She has a chance of dropping one of three invitations. Void Sea Invitation - Craving, Void Sea Invitation - Ecstasy, Void Sea Invitation - Sorrow. Once you have a Void Sea Invitation - Craving, select the Season 2 Lord of the Void Sea option in the Great Void and insert your Invitation. You need 1 Invitation for this guide, 2 for a harder version and 3 for the "Uber" encounter!

Note: Void Sea Invitation - Sorrow is much rarer and is only used for the "Uber" Encounter.

The Lord of the Void Sea Mechanics

This encounter is made up of many Skills and Attacks interacting with each other. It is highly recommended you have maxed out Elemental and Erosion Resistances with high Physical damage mitigation or avoidance. Throughout the fight the Lord of the Void Sea spawns Barrels in various formations. These barrels deal no damage in their normal (brown) state and can be walked on safely. He also changes the active color (buff) on his Anchor randomly throughout the fight giving it different damage types and abilities. It is very important to know what color The Lord of the Void Sea has active at all times to know what versions of his Attacks to expect.

Anchor Color (Buffs)

Throughout the fight The Lord of the Void Sea changes the active color (buff) of his Anchor. This causes the Anchor to activate the Barrels around the arena causing different damage and effects for each color.

No Imbue Color

This is the Anchor The Lord of the Void Sea starts the fight with. It deals medium Physical Auto Attack and Anchor Throw damage. If the Anchor makes contact with a Barrel, it activates it in the following ways:

  • If the Barrel is planted on the ground, it explodes in a small radius around it dealing high Physical damage.
  • These explosions can cause a chain reaction and activate other Barrels nearby.
  • If the Barrel is rolling around the arena, it activates, turning the Anchor's color and begins bouncing. If it lands on another Barrel it causes that Barrel to bounce.
  • After 2 bounces, the Barrel lands and explodes when impacting the ground, dealing high Physical damage in a medium radius.

Purple Imbue Color

Lord of the Void Sea
Purple Imbue Color

This Anchor color is the MOST DANGEROUS mechanic in the encounter. In our testing this deals insane damage. If the Anchor makes contact with a Barrel, it activates one of the following effects:

  • If the Barrel is planted on the ground, it explodes in a small radius dealing insane Physical and Erosion damage and applies a DoT (Damage Over Time) that deals massive Physical and Fire damage.
  • After the Barrel explodes it leaves an active purple pool on the ground that deals insane Physical and Fire damage so avoid these pools at all costs!
  • If the Barrel is rolling around the arena, it activates, turning the Anchor's color and begins bouncing. If it lands on another Barrel it causes that Barrel to bounce.
  • After 2 bounces, the Barrel lands and explodes on the ground dealing high Physical and Erosion damage in a medium radius where it lands leaving an active purple pool on the ground dealing insane Physical and Fire damage and applies a massive DoT.

Red Imbue Color

The Lord of the Void Sea imbues his Anchor with Life-Scorching Flames. It deals medium Physical and Fire Auto Attack and Anchor Throw damage. If the Anchor makes contact with a Barrel, it activates it in the following ways:

  • If the Barrel is planted on the ground, it explodes in a small radius dealing high Physical and Fire damage.
  • These explosions chain and activate other Barrels nearby.
  • If the Barrel is rolling around, it activates, turning the color of his Anchor, and begins following you. If it hits you or a wall it explodes dealing high Physical and Fire damage.

Green Imbue Color

Lord of the Void Sea
Green Imbue Color

The Lord of the Void Sea imbues his Anchor with Reality-Eroding Filth. In our testing this Anchor was dealing low and in some cases no damage. It deals low Physical and Erosion Auto Attack and Anchor Throw damage. If the Anchor makes contact with a Barrel, it activates it in the following ways:

  • If the Barrel is planted on the ground, it explodes in a small radius around it dealing medium Physical and Erosion damage and applies a DoT (Damage Over Time) that deals medium Physical and Erosion damage.
  • After the Barrel explodes it leaves a pool on the ground. We've found that this pool is harmless and can be walked over safely.
  • If the Barrel is rolling around, it activates and begins tracking your movement, following you until it hits you or a wall causing it to explode. This explosion deals medium Physical and Erosion damage. After the Barrel explodes it leaves a pool on the ground.

Barrels

Throughout the fight, the Lord of the Void Sea spawns Barrels in various formations. These barrels deal no Damage in their normal (brown) state. If any of the his attack's connect with a barrel it causes a reaction, dealing damage based on what Damage Buff (Colored Anchor) he currently has active.

Once you study and understand the Barrel patterns (see videos below) you can plan a safe path around/through them when they are not active. Remember that brown barrels are not active and are safe to touch and walk over.

The Barrels can act as a distraction for parts of the fight when mechanics begin to overlap each other. Do your best to predict the patterns and find the safe spot to avoid them when The Lord of the Void Sea activates them with his Anchor.

Skills Breakdown

Barrels

Throughout the fight the Lord of the Void Sea spawns Barrels in various formations. These barrels deal no damage in their normal (brown) state. If any of his attacks connects with a barrel it causes a reaction, dealing damage based on what Damage Buff (Colored Anchor) he currently has. If the Barrel is planted on the ground, it explodes in a small radius around it dealing high damage based on his current Anchor buff. These explosions chain and activate other Barrels nearby. If the Barrel is rolling around, it activates (changing color) and begins tracking your movement until it reaches you or explodes dealing high corresponding damage.

Barrel Toss

The Lord of the Void Sea tosses 5 barrels in rapid succession at your current location dealing high damage in a small radius based on his Anchor color. This is telegraphed by the Lord of the Void Sea standing in place as he begins moving his arm in an underhanded motion. Avoid this by rotating around the Lord of the Void Sea or running far away.

Anchor Slam (Auto Attack)

The Lord of the Void Sea swings his Anchor into the air and slams it into the ground, dealing low corresponding Damage and activating any Barrels hit. Avoid this by not standing in front of the boss.

Barrel Pulse

The Lord of the Void Sea spawns 12 Barrels under himself that pulse outwards before returning back to their starting point. These Barrels deal no damage unless they get activated.

Circle of Barrels

The Lord of the Void Sea spawns a concentrated circle of Barrels. This is followed by a Skill to activate the Barrels causing a chain reaction. Avoid this by running away from the circle of Barrels while they are brown and deal no damage.

Barrels Everywhere!

The Lord of the Void Sea goes immune and begins to spawn Barrels Everywhere! These Barrels deal no damage and you can safely move through them while they are brown. He also drops 4 Barrels in a square that bounce 4 times following you. These deal Physical damage in a small area when they hit the ground. Once the arena is filled with Barrels Everywhere The Lord of the Void Sea uses an attack to activate the Barrels causing a massive chain reaction. Plan to path through the Barrels while they are still brown, give yourself enough safe space to avoid the chain reaction at the end.

Anchor Wave

The Lord of the Void Sea changes the color (buff) of his anchor and releases 3 long range, wide projectile waves dealing medium corresponding damage per hit. You avoid this by running as far away from The Lord of the Void Sea as you can or by standing behind him.

Note: It is very important to pay attention to what color (buff) The Lord of the Void Sea has active at all times to know what versions of his attacks to expect.

Anchor Throw

The Lord of the Void Sea throws his anchor at your current location, bouncing off walls and causing any Barrels to activate on contact. The Anchor Throw's damage is based on what color The Lord of the Void Sea currently has active. Green deals medium Physical and Erosion damage on hit. Red deals medium Physical and Erosion damage and Purple deals medium Physical and Erosion damage and applies a DoT (Damage Over Time) that deals massive Physical and Fire damage. Avoid this by giving yourself enough distance from the spinning anchor(s), while predicting their linear path.

Anchor Drop

The Lord of the Void Sea raises his anchor and slams it into the ground causing 8 ghost anchors to drop. Light blue rings begin to spawn on the ground beneath you telegraphing where the Anchor drops. These Anchors deal high Physical and Lightning damage. Avoid this by constantly moving forward and not standing in the telegraphed light blue rings.

Cannon Line

The Lord of the Void Sea spawns a line of cannons, sometimes in a crescent pattern. These cannons parodically shoot large cannonball projectiles dealing medium Lightning and Physical damage on contact. One shot is not threatening but getting hit by multiple shots can be lethal. The cannons will rotate and lock onto you tracking your Movement. This can be avoided by running around the cannons in a circular motion around the cannons. Avoid the orbs by constantly moving forward or in a rotation around the Cannons. Avoid the orbs by constantly moving forward or in a rotation around the Cannons.

Burial at Sea

The Lord of the Void Sea goes immune and jumps on his anchor, shortly after Cannons begin spawning in rapid succession along each of the borders. Each Cannon fires a cannonball dealing medium Lightning and Physical damage. The best way to avoid this is to make your way to the north of the arena. There is a safe spot that gives you the most time and visibility to plan your movement to dodge all the projectile orbs.

Lord of the Void Sea Adds

The Lord of the Void Sea spawns monsters throughout the fight that remain until they are defeated. They have low life and deal low damage. If ignored it is possible to be overwhelmed by too many minions and his other active abilities. It is recommended to kill them as quickly as possible.

The Lord of the Void Sea Fight

The Lord of the Void Sea encounter is made up of many Skills and Attacks interacting with each other. Throughout the fight, he changes the active color (buff) on his Anchor randomly, giving him different damage types and abilities. It is very important to pay attention to the Anchor's color so that you know what to expect. Throughout the fight he repositions himself by jumping away from you. In rare scenarios you might find yourself under his landing spot. Don't worry as this Leap dealt no damage in our tests.

Once engaged, The Lord of the Void Sea rotates through his abilities; Barrels, Barrel Toss, Barrel Pulse, Circle of Barrels, Anchor Wave, Anchor Throw, Anchor Drop, Cannon Line, Barrels Everywhere, Burial at Sea, Rotating Cannons and Cannon Bunker. Keep in mind all of his attacks and abilities can overlap each other. It is possible to have them all active at the same time! Do your best to damage him while avoiding all of his mechanics. Remember brown Barrels planted on the ground deal no damage and are safe to walk over. He goes Immune at 75, 50% and 25% HP where he casts either Burial at Sea, Barrels Everywhere or Rotating Cannons

Enrage Timer

At 50% HP The Lord of the Void Sea goes immune and begins to cast Burial at Sea or Barrels Everywhere! After finishing either attack his enrage timer starts. If you are not able to defeat him in 9 minutes after he reaches 60%, his Bride comes to his rescue. The Ghost Sea Bride joins the fight with all her Skills from her encounter, except they all now deal outrageous damage. Also The Lord of the Void Sea now calls for backup from monsters that deal low damage and have Low Life. Kill the monsters quickly as they do not despawn and if ignored can overwhelm you.

After the immunity phase, he returns to the arena and begins to rotate through all of his Abilities. Continue to pump damage into him while evading all of his active mechanics. Once defeated take the small victory walk to the Void Sea Chest and collect your hard earned loot! The Lord of the Void Sea is a great way to farm Hero Relics and/or Hero Memories. Once you have mastered this fight and increased your damage you are ready to test your skills against Lord of the Void Sea 2 Invitations.
