Blistering Lava Watcher Boss Guide

The Blistering Lava Watcher is one of the five "Watchers of the Netherrealm". You must defeat Watchers to collect boss keys and challenge the Traveler, one of the pinnacle bosses. The Watchers of the Netherrealm are harder than typical Beacon Bosses. The difficulty of the Watcher is based on which Timemark you are attempting.

In order to fight the Blistering Lava Watcher, you have to collect Starshards by completing Netherrealm stages or trading with other players. Watchers have specific loot tables. Chaos Invasion Card Inheritance does not affect the Watcher's fight or loot table in any way. You can learn more about their loot tables by selecting the boss in-game.

Rewards

All The Watchers of the Netherrealm have a pool of exclusive Legendries and Precise Skills that can drop, this makes some Watchers more valuable than others. Watchers can also award various currencies, Memory Cards, Beacons, and items from the global drop pool. Farming Watchers is a great way to accumulate keys to take on the Traveler at your current Timemark.

Skill Breakdown

The Blistering Lava Watcher executes two consecutive frontal slashes with his swords. This ability does moderate damage in an area in front of the Watcher. Easily avoid it by not standing directly in front of the boss.

The Blistering Lava Watcher unleashes 3 volleys of a 3 Fire Arrow spread with mediocre travel time. Arrows deal weak damage and apply significant knockback on contact. The Watcher adjusts his aim after each volley, so only perpetual movement should be used to avoid this attack.

The Blistering Lava Watcher leaps into the air to slam where you stand, causing the ground in front of the impact to erupt in a 3 pronged-forking pattern. Avoid taking moderate damage by moving as the Watcher leaps.

The Blistering Lava Watcher performs a swift dashing slash towards you, dealing moderate damage on contact. Avoid this ability by sidestepping, or using a movement ability to quickly move out of the Watcher's path.

The Blistering Lava Watcher summons 3 Fire Embers when under 66% HP remaining, and 5 Fire Embers when under 33% HP remaining. Fire Embers roam around the Arena and explode when making contact with you, dealing cataclysmic damage. Avoid them at all costs, predict their path and side step as needed. Mobility skills help with this.

The Blistering Lava Watcher throws down his swords, and channels an arena-wide beam of Fire. The Watcher then spins around, causing the Beam to rotate counter-clockwise. The Fire Beam deals cataclysmic damage over time on contact. This move is often paired with roaming Fire Embers. Avoid certain death by getting close to the boss and move counter-clockwise around the arena to outpace the Fire Beam, sidestep around roaming Fire Embers that get too close.

At 66% and 33% HP remaining, the Watcher becomes temporarily invulnerable and causes marked areas to explode, Fire Pools are formed in the aftermath around the Arena. Fire Pools persist until the fight is over, and deal high damage over time when stepped on. At 66% HP remaining, Fire Pools spawn at Arena's outskirts. At 33% HP remaining, Fire Pools spawn closer to the Arena's center. This ability serves to restrict your movement, making it harder to avoid the Watcher's other attacks. Finish the fight quickly and do not step over Fire Pools.

Blistering Lava Watcher Mechanics

The Blistering Lava Watcher awaits in the center of the Arena. This Watcher's abilities are slow, consistent, and easily capable of killing you if you do not pay attention. This fight is split into 2 Phases: The Boss Phase and the Intermission Phase, each repeating multiple times.
It is highly recommended to have maxed out Fire Resistance before attempting this boss.

Phase 1

The Blistering Lava Watcher randomly rotates through his skills (Basic Attack, Fire Arrows, Leap Attack, Dash Attack). Once he reaches 66% and 33% HP remaining, he goes Immune and dashes to the center of the arena to start the Intermission Phase

Intermission

The boss moves to the center of the room and becomes immune. During this time, the Watcher uses his Fire Pools ability, making some of the Arena inaccessible for the rest of the fight.

Phase 2

After the Intermission concludes, the Blistering Lava Watcher always summons roaming Fire Embers and then begins to channel his rotating Fire Beam. The Beam spins Around the arena in a counter-clockwise direction. Fire Embers and the Fire Beam can easily kill you on contact. After the Watcher finishes using Fire Beam, he returns to using his phase 1 skills (Basic Attack, Fire Arrows, Leap Attack, Dash Attack) randomly, in a now less spacious Arena.
