Core Item Build


  • Patterns of Justice (2) Piece gives every rune for Sweeping Wind and 15% movement speed.
  • Patterns of Justice (4) Piece gives 50% damage reduction and a tremendous 50 Spirit Regeneration.
  • Patterns of Justice (6) Piece increases all damage by 15,000% when you hit enemies with Tempest Rush while Sweeping Wind is active.
  • Captain Crimson's Trimmings (2) Piece gives 20% Cooldown Reduction and Resource Cost Reduction.
  • Captain Crimson's Trimmings (3) Piece increases our damage by our Cooldown Reduction percentage and decreases our damage taken by our Resource Cost Reduction percentage.
  • Won Khim Lau gives 600% damage and causes Tempest Rush to cast Cyclone Strike.
  • Cesar's Memento increases damage to enemies that are blinded, stunned or frozen by 800%.
  • Balance gives 600% damage to Tempest Rush and 100% Critical Hit Chance if it hits 1 enemy (awesome for killing the Rift Guardian).
  • Ring of Royal Grandeur completes our Patterns of Justice and Captain Crimson's Trimmings Set Bonuses.

Global Stat Priorities
Our offensive priorities are: Cooldown > Area Damage > Cold Damage > Critical Hit Chance > Critical Hit Damage, along with as much Tempest Rush damage as possible. We need the Cooldown to keep Epiphany up at all times and to gain damage from our Captain Crimson's Trimmings (3) Piece. We stack Area Damage as we will be spending a lot of time gathering enemies before blowing them up!

Assembling the Build

1. Do the Challenge Rift for the materials to cube Legendary Powers. You can complete this once a week for additional resources and we always update the guide for you!

2. Gather the full Patterns of Justice set. Each piece can be gambled from Kadala for Bloodshards. Do not salvage any duplicate pieces you find! Instead convert them to another part of the set with Recipe 4 in Kanai's Cube. If you have extra materials you can use Recipe 3 to craft the remaining pieces, but this is expensive and not recommended for new players.

3. Gamble from Kadala in this order:

  1. The full Patterns of Justice set
  2. Cesar's Memento
  3. Nemesis Bracers
  4. Goldwrap
  5. Mantle of Channeling

4. Craft using Recipe 3 in Kanai's Cube in this order:

  1. Fist Weapons to get Won Khim Lau and Vengeful Wind
  2. Daibos to get Balance
  3. 1-Handed Swords to get In-Geom
  4. Rings to get Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac and Convention of Elements
  5. Anything from the Gamble list in Step 3 that you haven't already acquired.

5. Do Bounties to acquire several important items for this build:

  • Act 1: Ring of Royal Grandeur
  • Act 3: Avarice Band
  • Act 4: Can drop any bounty item from any act
  • Bounty Turn In: Recipes for Captain Crimson's Trimmings set

6. At this point you can comfortably farm Nephalem Rifts or low GRs where you can find all the remaining items you need for different variants of the build. It's better to spend your mats improving your set pieces, getting ancient weapons etc.

  • Bane of the Trapped provides 60% increased damage to slowed enemies.
  • Taeguk provides up to 80% additive damage and 20% armor as long as we continuously channel Tempest Rush.
  • Gogok of Swiftness provides 15% Attack Speed, 15% Cooldown Reduction, and 30% chance to dodge, which helps keep Epiphany up.
  • Boon of the Hoarder makes monsters spray gold everywhere for our Goldwrap and 30% increased movement speed for T16 content.
  • Bane of the Stricken gives up to 2.3% increased damage on successive attack against the same target. We'll need this gem if we want to solo push to kill the Rift Guardian.
  • Bane of the Powerful gives 20% increased damage, 15% increased damage to elites, and 15% damage reduction after killing an elite pack. This gem is useful for solo speed greater rift farming.


  • Tempest Rush Flurry is our damage dealer that blows up everything around us when we choose to release it. We will channel this skill until we have 100 stacks of Flurry to unleash an icy explosion of death.
  • Sweeping Wind Inner Storm gives us increased spirit regeneration, but we get all runes from our Patterns of Justice (2) Piece Bonus.
  • Epiphany Desert Shroud gives 50% damage reduction and allows us to teleport to monsters with our melee attacks.
  • Blinding Flash Faith in the Light gives us 29% additive damage and activates our Cesar's Memento.
  • Dashing Strike Quicksilver allows us to teleport around faster in speed content.
  • Mantra of Conviction Annihilation gives 16% additive damage and 30% movement speed when activated before killing an enemy. Overawe is another good choice if you'd prefer extra damage over the movement speed.
  • Mantra of Salvation Agility gives 40% all resistance and 35% dodge when solo pushing.
  • Cyclone Strike Wall of Wind can be used in speed content to active Cesar's Memento and is automatically cast from Won Khim Lau.
  • Serenity Ascension makes you immune to damage and crowd controlling effects for 4 seconds, which can be useful to bridge any downtime from Epiphany.


  • Beacon of Ytar gives 20% cooldown to keep Epiphany up.
  • Seize the Initiative gives 30% attack speed when hitting enemies above 75% health.
  • Near Death Experience allows us to cheat death.
  • Harmony gives 40% of single resistances on items to All Resistance.
  • The Guardian's Path gives us 35% dodge when solo pushing.

The Templar is recommended for this build due to his melee range and aggressive AI. When there's a monster in range he will always stand still and fight it, making him very predictable and easy to play around.

For the Skills pick Heal, Loyalty, Onslaught and Inspire. All the alternatives, except Intimidate, include AoE hard-CC, which makes mobs harder to manipulate.

Follower's damage is completely irrelevant, so we stack Attack Speed for more on-hit procs and Cooldown Reduction for more Heal. The Items are:

  • Enchanting Favor to make the Templar immortal.
  • Oculus Ring for 85% multiplicative damage boost.
  • Unity for 50% damage reduction.
  • The Ess of Johan to pull mobs together.
  • Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker for the Attack Speed slow.
  • Freeze of Deflection for extra survivability.



The idea here is to fly as fast as possible from elite to elite, channeling Tempest Rush all the time. If we consistently kill elites and keep our In-geom up, we'll be able to spam our abilities permanently. You can use Dashing Strike to quickly move forward to find elites and move through bad maps.

  1. Spam Epiphany.
  2. Activate Sweeping Wind one time. As long as you hit an enemy every 6 seconds, the your stacks will refresh. If you're traveling down long hallways or changing floors, make sure you refresh it manually to avoid losing all your stacks.
  3. Activate Mantra of Conviction once every 3 seconds to maintain the movement speed buff. If you're running out of spirit, don't use this skill as often.
  4. Hold down Tempest Rush to annihilate everything in sight!

Solo Push

When pushing we have to be much more tactical in how we play. This build is a bit squishy and grouping of enemies is required to get a proper clear.

  1. Spam Epiphany constantly.
  2. Activate Sweeping Wind one time. As long as you hit an enemy every 6 seconds, the your stacks will refresh. If you're traveling down long hallways or changing floors, make sure you refresh it manually to avoid losing all your stacks.
  3. Activate Mantra of Salvation once every 3 seconds to maintain the movement speed buff. If you're running out of spirit, don't use this skill as often.
  4. Hold down Tempest Rush starting on Fire cycle of Conventions of Elements. We want to hold down this skill until the very end of the Cold cycle so we will have 100 stacks of Flurry for maximum damage. Once there, activate your Blinding Flash and release Tempest Rush to drop an icy atomic bomb of damage.
  5. If your Epiphany is going to fall off before you reach Cold, activate Serenity to be immune from crowd control. If you are crowd controlled in any way, including: wormholed, knocked back, frozen, or even teleporting with Epiphany to a monster with a large hit box, your Flurry stacks will reset and you'll have to start all over.


In speed content this build is already immortal as long as you pick up gold from Goldwrap + Boon of the Hoarder + Avarice Band. For solo if the current setup isn't tanky enough you can either add more paragon points into vitality, or drop Convention of Elements for Unity, which will make you take half damage when your follower wears one with a Enchanting Favor.


Nephalem Rifts
T16 Bounties and Keys

This build is incredible for speed farming and has a very easy rotation. Once you have your Sweeping Wind and Epiphany, you'll be able to Tempest Rush all day long!

The main thing to add from the Gameplay section covered above is we are elite hunting to keep up our In-geom. You don't have to worry about building a million Flurry stacks or being on a specific Convention of Elements cycle. Just Tempest Rush forward and use Dashing Strike when there are no elites or minimal density.

If you're having spirit issues, you can drop Mantra of Conviction for Mystic Ally Air Ally for more regeneration. Other than that, I'd try to put this together exactly as it's laid out. For bounties drop the gold find pieces (Boon of the Hoarder, Avarice Band and Goldwrap) for Wreath of Lightning, Rechel's Ring of Larceny and Aquila Cuirass respectively. If you're hurting for more Death's Breath you can swap Captain Crimson's Trimmings for Sage's Journey.

GR Solo Speeds
Speed GR Farming

For Solo XP farming, nothing is better than the Tempest Rush for the monk class. It provides high damage with a good amount of speed to farm GR100+ in under 3 minutes on any map.

The gameplay is in between the T16 setup and Solo Pushing. We will be hitting elites on our Cold Convention of Elements cycle and trying to build Flurry whenever we can, but we don't need to hit everything perfectly all the time to kill things. Practice timing your rotations as you XP farm so you can be ready to clear as high as possible when you solo push.

Here we'll pick up Molten Wildebeest's Gizzard with Squirt's Necklace to deal double damage. We'll also put on Nemesis Bracers so we can get extra elites out of pylons that we'll destroy instantly.

GR Solo Push
Solo Push

When pushing we need to pick up as much Area Damage (instead of Attack Speed) as possible to burn enemies down. They will not fall over to Tempest Rush unless we hit them properly. We'll need to tactically move around the map, gather mobs with Cyclone Strike, and crush them in large packs.

This set up with Shenlong's Spirit is difficult to play but very rewarding when you pull it off correctly. We want to spam Mantra of Salvation and Sweeping Wind to make sure our spirit doesn't fill up until just before our Cold Convention of Elements cycle. Once there let your spirit fill up which will trigger Shenlong's Spirit buff, cast Blinding Flash, then release your Tempest Rush. Once you've done that spam Mantra of Salvation until your spirit reaches 0, start channeling Tempest Rush again, and repeat. There is currently a bug where Shenlong's Spirit will not trigger even if you reach maximum spirit. There is nothing you can do about this, and if that happens just blind and release your Tempest Rush without it.

You can swap Lefebvre's Soliloquy for Stone Gauntlets for some additional survivability, but its less consistent as you have to get hit 5 times to get the full value. At very high paragon levels you can drop Harmony for Relentless Assault for more damage. One final way to play this is to drop Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac for Unity. We will then target 68% Cooldown Reduction which will give us a gap in Epiphany that we can cover with Serenity. This version requires you to pay attention to Serenity at just the right time, but will give you more damage reduction.

GR Group RGK
Rift Guardian Killer

We can serve as a Rift Guardian Killer (RGK) in meta groups if our friends need someone to kill the boss. We'll change our spec to be completely based on single target damage to get them down as fast as possible. We will forego every Area Damage roll for other offensive stats and we'll usually be targeting just one boss.

The rotation is exactly the same as the Solo Push variant with Shenlong's Spirit. The one additional step is once your spirit is drained after the explosion, you need to hit 3 times with Crippling Wave to trigger your Mythic Rhythm passive. Make sure you do not use Tempest Rush during the rift as it will activate a Cyclone Strike and anger your support Barbarian.

Here we're taking Squirt's Necklace, Relentless Assault and Mythic Rhythm to deal the most damage possible. If you cannot keep your Squirt's buff up, take some of the defensive passives we used earlier, or if that still isn't enough, drop Squirt's entirely for The Flavor of Time. If you really want to test this builds full power, drop Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac for Stone of Jordan and and Lefebvre's Soliloquy for Mantle of Channeling, just beware that you'll be in much greater danger.

  • If you stop channeling Tempest Rush for any reason, your Flurry stacks will reset to 0. This includes being: knocked back, frozen, stunned, wormhole'd, jailed, or even unwanted teleports from Epiphany, which are usually caused when you approach monsters with a very large hitbox.

Blinding Flash

  • The blind lasts for 3 full seconds, so you can use it at the start of the Cold Convention of Elements cycle and wait until the very end to release your Tempest Rush. In other words, the blind doesn't have to happen the instant you release your Flurry stacks, there is a window of time there you can sometimes use to your advantage.


  • Put together the core items and acquire the full Patterns of Justice set.
  • Practice building and detonating your Flurry stacks on your Cold cycle of Convention of Elements.
  • Climb the solo leaderboards by gathering monsters together and burning them down with Area Damage.
